This program is NOT FREE. We support the shareware concept in
allowing you to try this program out , but FULLY expect you to
support us in making this program everything it can be. This is
something that CANNOT be done if you do not register the programs
you use! This is NOT an option! You are entitled to evaluate this
program for not more than 30 days at which time you are expected
to either delete it from your system(s) or register it.

Introduction
────────────
DynaStat is a Log processor that handles the log files from
Pcboard, Remote Access and Front Door. DynaStat will process an
unlimited amount of log files and will write up to 10 bulletin
files for each report generated. The bulletins generated vary in
their appearance according to the format specified. In the Remote
Access and Front Door modules you specify only the filename
without the extension as DynaStat generates both the .ASC and the
.ANS files for you automatically. DynaStat supports full file
sharing to work with networks and shared environments. DynaStat
will (optionally) automatically trim your log file to the date
specified maintaining your log files for you.
Configuring DynaStat
────────────────────
DynaStat can run from anywhere on your system and can find its
files from the directory you call it from. With that in mind, we
will break down ALL the modules into one global configuration
sequence, rather than repeat the modules as they are almost
identical to each other. All of these options are configurable in
the same way for each section of the program(PCB,RA or FRODO).
When there is an exception to this rule, you will see an extra
header showing the module that particular option applies to.
Log Paths
---------
Thisis a floating database where you may specify an unlimited
number of input files or log files to process. You have a handy
feature here where you may specify whether or not the file should
be trimmed or even processed, allowing you to disable that
particular file without having to delete it from your database.
Toggles
-------
This is the area where you answer various yes or no questions
and specify certain cut off points. We will go into them in more
detail here.
Include System Statistics?
--------------------------
This tells DynaStat to generate a screen that holds certain
system stats that are useful, but not necessary and may be
omitted with this switch. You may experiment with this to see if
it suits your systems taste.
Sort Order for Bulletins?
-------------------------
This tells DynaStat which order you wish to sort your bulletin
listings. The sorts are identical for Remote Access and Pcboard
and are as follows...
0 - sort high up/downloaders by bytes transferred, high to low.
1 - sort high up/downloaders by files transferred, high to low.
2 - sort high up/downloaders alphabetically.
These options will be tailored at a later date to include a
menu instead of the present system to make it more user friendly.
The sort order for Front Door only offers two sorts...
0 - sort high systems by bytes transferred, high to low.
1 - sort high systems by files transferred, high to low.
Show Intro Screen?
------------------
The Intro screen isthe first screen generated byDynaStat that
includes info about your system, such as your systems name and
sysop name, as well as the date and times of the generated
bulletins. Accepted inputs are either a Y or a N.
Show Totals Screen?
-------------------
This is a screen generated showing the grand totals of your
system, which would include users that are not part of the high
list(because they weren't high enough to make the top 25) but
were still calculated and tallied here, including system ratio in
bytes in and files. For the Front Door module you also have the
number of users calls.
Clear Screen between Pages?
---------------------------
This tells DynaStat to insert either an ansi control sequence
to the file between each page or in the case of PCB, it will be a
@CLS@ sequence, forcing your system to clear the screen each time
a page is shown to the user. This may be more desirable for you.
Number to Include in Bulletins?
-------------------------------
Here we can determine how many you wish to have in your high
lists. I have allowed up to 25 thinking you might not wish any
more on one page, making the bulletin a little bit sloppier if
this were the case.
Number of Days to Go back in Bulletin?
--------------------------------------
This tells DynaStathow far back this bulletin is to report to
you on. This is also the size of the trimmed log file, so you
have a twofold function here.
Include Screen with Baud Rates? (Front Door ONLY)
-------------------------------------------------
There is also a screen available that will show you all the
baud rates currently used and how many people actually used that
baud rate. Please note that this statistic represents the users
calls and not the system calls.
.... and now on to the main module screen
Output Files
────────────
This is thesection where you specify the pathand names of the
actual bulletins you wish to generate. You may specify up to 10
for each log format you process, giving you some added
flexibility in how you set up your systems log reports. There are
a couple of rules here you MUST follow or unexpected results may
occur. Both the Front Door modules and the Remote Access modules
write to two files, one for ascii with the extension of .ASC and
one for ANSI with the extension of .ANS . In these modules you
MUST NOT specify an extension as DynaStat will add the
appropriate extension according to the bulletin it generated. In
the PCBoard module, you may specify any filename, but are
encouraged to fall into the PCB naming convention and not include
an extension and also not include the trailing "G" as this is
only one file that includes the PCB color codes, allowing you to
only have to maintain one file for both graphics and non graphics
users.
Colors
──────
Apretty self explanatory section of the config, suffice it to
say that this whole section is merely a matter of taste and how
you design the color scheme in your bulletins is just that, a
matter of taste. There is a full help system included to tell you
just WHICH option you are changing at that particular time.
Includes
────────
This is where you enable or disable the engines for each
module. If you run a Front Door/Remote Access system, you may
wish to disable the PCBOARD section of the program, for example.
Any combination may be used, no module is dependant on any other.
And now that we have DynaStat configured, lets move onto the
installation!
Installing DynaStat
───────────────────
DynaStat may be run from any directory, but we strongly
recommend you switch to the directory from which DynaStat
resides. This is to support future versions where you may
actually have many configurations depending on the bulletin you
wish to generate, reading the config file from the current
directory.
1 - Create a directory and unzip all DynaStat Files to it.
2 - Refer to the section above for your configuration options.
This MUST be done prior to running DynaStat as it needs certain
info about your systems configuration.
3 - In one of your events you generally run a batch or group of
batch files. We are assuming you are an active sysop and have an
understanding of DOS, so we will not go into DOS practice here.
One thing worth mentioning is that if you wish to run a "Live"
bulletin system, that is say writing to a logon screen, DynaStat
is VERY fast and would not slow your system down at all. Test
show DynaStat processed over 2 meg in over 8 log files covering
all 3 formats in just over 30 seconds.
4 - Once your batch files are modified to include the DynaStat
program, you are now setup. An example line would look like
this...
C:\PCB\DYNASTAT\DYNASTAT
And that is all thereis to it. You now havea fully functional
log processor on your system!
The Future for DynaStat?
────────────────────────
DynaStat is just partof a new line ofsoftware being currently
developed by a Canadian company called Dynagrafix Developments.
This particular program holds a lot of promise primarily because
it was predominantly written in C++ objects and can be added to
at any time without modifying the existing engines. We appreciate
our customers opinions and hope to hear from you as to what other
formats you wish to see supported. Some we have been hearing
include D'Bridge, wildcat and Maximus. We will endeavor to
include only systems which will be supported and will be wanted
or needed by our customers, so your opinion is important. There
will be a continuing development cycle for this program, so you
can look forward to seeing what this program evolves into and
know you were a part of a concept quickly dying, the shareware
concept, in which you were allowed to actually evaluate the
product BEFORE buying it.

SST is a files system for your terminal. Currently in beta
testing, it will allow you to keep track of all the files you
upload and download to various boards. Enter descriptions to
boards without typing anything in, simply hitting one key and all
the info is on the systems. Fully DSZ ready so you may plug the
tagged files from your files database right into a batch invoking
your DSZ or GSZ program, along with reading an existing log to
import files and descriptions automatically, including file_id!
This program installs seamlessly into most popular terminal
packages making it a hands ready utility for your terminal!
Special Thanks
--------------
I would like to thank all of the people involved in helping us
get this program developed. Thanks to the Dynagrafix Beta Team,
good job, everyone, also, to all of Net 229 in Fido for their
continued support and especially to Andrew Kunz for the many
times we had to test this puppy out before it came to you in this
condition. We will not only continue to support this product but
intend to implement MANY new formats so that most every popular
program is supported.
