Chapter 2: Program Overview
----------------------------
This chapter describes in detail the menu commands and toolbar functions of
WayPoint for Windows. It has been divided into four parts:
Screen indentification
Menu Commands
Keyboard shortcut keys
Toolbar commands
The following diagrams show the various WayPoint screens with the locations
of the parts marked for easy identification. Most of the parts labeled are
standard Windows terms and are used throughout this manual. Please refer to
the appropriated sections throughout the manual for more details on the
commands.
WayPoint Application Screen:
----------------------------
WayPoint for Windows has a multiple document interface. This means that more
than one window is housed within the application window. Although
WayPoint 1.0 displays one waypoint list at a time, the sailings windows can
also be displayed along with the main waypoint list. The program windows
which have the minimize and maximize buttons can be reduced to icon size or
enlarged to normal display.
WayPoint List:
--------------
The waypoint list is the main display for all route information, divided into
three display sections. The first section contains the Departure and Arrival
port information. The description of the highlighted waypoint is also
displayed in this section. The second section is the main list of waypoints
entered for the route. The third section is the Passage Summary display.
This portion displays information on the vessel's passage from departure to
arrival.
Passage Summary Display:
------------------------
Monitoring the passage for each route is within the Passage Summary display
portion of the waypoint list. The departure and scheduled arrival times are
displayed once a departure time has been entered for the passage. As each
daily position is entered the Passage Summary information is updated to
reflect the latest position. The Summary displays the day's run from the
previous position update and total run from departure. The projected
transit display is updated to show the total passage as projected from
departure to the current ETA for arrival.

Main Menu:
---------
The menu command structure for WayPoint for Windows 1.0 is similar to that
of most of the popular Windows applications currently in use. It is this
common menu structure and the flexibility of the Windows environment that
has made Windows so popular. WayPoint 1.0 menus are designed to follow the
operation of creating and maintaining a route's sailing plan.
To activate the menus you have the option of using the mouse or keyboard.
When using the mouse the menu item is selected by clicking on the item.
To activate the menus with the keyboard the ALT key must be pressed first.
This activates the main menu for menu selection. The menu items are selected
by pressing the letter that is underlined on the desired menu. Pressing the
ESC key deactivates the menu.
A third option for menu selection is the use of short-cut keys. These
commands are activated by holding down the CTRL key and pressing the
appropriate letter. These shortcuts keys are shown on the menu next to the
items that are activated by them.

Chapter 3: File Commands
------------------------
Save File:
----------
By saving a waypoint list you store your work as a file on disk. Until a
file is saved, your work exists only in the computer's memory. What this
means is, if the electricity goes off, even briefly, your computer's memory
is lost -- along with any unsaved route information.
This section will detail the different file formats and procedures for saving
waypoint files. Two file formats are utilized by WayPoint for saving files:
Master and Working files.
Master files are your master sailing plans, permanent routes created for
repeated use. These files contain only the route information pertaining to
the ports and waypoints.
Working files are exactly that, files maintained and updated during a passage
from departure to arrival. These files contain the master sailing plan along
with the passage times and ETA's.
The following commands can be used to open the Save File dialog box:
Menu Commands: File, Save File
Keyboard: CTRL-S
Tool button
From the Save File dialog box you have the three save options:
(1) Master files.
(2) Working files.
(3) Save both a Master and Working file.
To save the current waypoint list as a file:
* Enter the name of the file (or use the currently displayed name) in the
File Name text box.
* Choose the desired File Format option.
* Click on the OK command button to accept the file, or double click on the
filename if selected from the file list box.
The following sub sections will describe in more detail the file formats and
file naming procedures.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 14
Master Sailing Plans:
--------------------
Saving waypoint lists as master files creates a library of permanent routes.
Having a library of files readily available will help make the planning of a
passage an easier job. A permanent record of established routes can be
quickly transferred over to the nautical charts to be used for the passage.
When creating a new waypoint file, the Save File dialog box will display
UNTITLED in the File Name text box. This is because the new file has no
name. All waypoint files use standard MS-DOS file name conventions:
* A file name can be from one to eight characters long .
* You can use letters A through Z (upper and lower case), numbers 0 through
9, hyphens (-), underscores (_), and exclamation marks (!).
* You cannot use periods (.) or blank spaces. A period separates a file's
first name and extension.
* You cannot use characters such as asterisks (*), plus signs (+), equal
signs (=), and some punctuation marks.
* The file extensions used by WayPoint, [ .wpr ] and [ .wpw ], are
automatically added during the save process.
* For more information on naming of MS-DOS files please refer to your
DOS manual.
It is recommended that file names identify the passage being saved. The
name should be easily identifiable, i.e., an Oakland to Honolulu passage
could be named as OAK-HON, O_HON-GC, etc. Once a standard for file names
is created it should be maintained to minimize confusion in locating multiple
routes in a large library.
If the selected name already exists, all information in that file will be
erased and the new file will be saved in its place. To avoid accidental
erasures WayPoint will always prompt for confirmation before overwriting
an existing file.
Working Files:
-------------
As explained earlier in this chapter, working files are used to maintain and
update a vessel's passage from departure to arrival. When departure has been
entered the file needs to be saved as a working file. WayPoint will
recognize when changes have been made to a Master file. If departure has
been entered the Working File format option will be selected when the file
save dialog box is opened.
The naming of files is the same for Working files as it is for the Master
sail plans. Additional options for filenames can be used, for example, the
same passage from Oakland to Honolulu could be named HON-35 to identify the
passage as voyage 35. The master file name can also be used to name the
working file since both formats are tracked by WayPoint.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 15
Both Formats: Master & Working Files
--------------------------------------
A third save option is available which permits both formats to be saved at
the same time. When the Both formats option is selected, a Master and
Working file will be saved to file. This option can be useful when a file
has been modified and a master version has not been saved. Again, WayPoint
will prompt on any file names that are duplicated.
New File:
---------
When you first startup WayPoint for Windows, you will see a blank screen.
If a route is being created and a file for that route does not exist one
must be created. The New File command will open and display a blank waypoint
list.
To create a new waypoint list, use one of the following commands:
Menu Commands: File, New File
Tool button
Close File:
-----------
The Close File command closes the waypoint file currently displayed without
closing the main program. The waypoint screen will be blank except for any
navigation calculators that may be opened. If any changes have occurred
since the last save, WayPoint will prompt with an option to save the latest
changes that have occurred.
Open File:
---------
When WayPoint is started the program screen is blank of any files. If an
existing waypoint file is to be worked on then the Open File command is used
to access it. The Open File dialog box is similar to the Save File dialog
except rather than saving a file the selected file is retrieved and displayed.
WayPoint will open three types of file formats:
* Master files Permanent sailing plans created by WayPoint
for Windows.
* Working files Working files for enroute use.
* Amver (v3.1) files Data files created using Amver v3.1.
WayPoint for Windows imports Amver files
and converts the file to WayPoint format.
To Open an existing file, use the following commands:
Menu Commands: File, Open File
Tool button
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 16
WayPoint always opens to the default directory called \Routes.
If data files reside in other directories locate the subdirectory by using
the Directory and Drive list boxes. A file must first be selected before
it can be loaded into memory.
To select a file, first select the file format option:
(1) Use the mouse and place the highlight scroll bar on the file by
clicking once and then pressing the OK command button
or
(2) Double click on the file to be loaded.
Selecting the file format option changes the title on the Open File dialog
box so that the command operation to be made is always displayed. By
default, the Master file option is selected when the dialog box is opened.
To display the appropriate files select the corresponding option button.
File extensions recognized by WayPoint are:
* WPR Master sailing plans
* WPW Working files
* DAT Amver data files
Amver File Conversions:
-----------------------
For users who have accumulated a large library of routes using the DOS
program Amver (version 3.1), these files can be converted and used in
WayPoint. The file conversion process will only convert Master sailing plan
information, therefore both Master and Working Amver files can be converted
into WayPoint sailing plans.
WayPoint for Windows maintains all working positions used throughout the
passage, whereas Amver files only keep the last two position updates
displayed. Because WayPoint uses a different format in maintaining working
files, only the Master sailing information is extracted from the Amver files.
Passage information can then be updated through WayPoint's voyage functions.
To convert Amver data files:
----------------------------
(1) Select the format option to Import Amver data.
(2) If the data files are in a different directory you will have to
change to that directory.
(3) Locate the file to be loaded and load into WayPoint. The conversion
process is automatic.
(4) Amver users should note that additional editing may be required to
the following items after a file has been converted:
* Zone description * Port Names
* Waypoint descriptions * Port Names
* List of passage charts * Voyage description notes
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 17
WayPoint uses a fixed length restriction of 12 characters for Departure and
Arrival ports and 30 characters for waypoint descriptions. This may at times
conflict with the descriptions in the Amver data files. The list of charts
may at times also be truncated during conversions depending on how they were
originally saved.
Exit WayPoint:
--------------
The Exit command closes WayPoint and returns you back to the Windows
operating system. If any changes have occurred since the last save, WayPoint
will prompt with an option to save the latest changes that have occurred.
The following commands can be used to exit WayPoint:
Menu Commands: File, Exit
Keyboard: CTRL-X
--------------------------
Chapter 4: Edit Functions
--------------------------
Setup: Port/Zone
----------------
The port setup dialog box accepts the departure and arrival ports and zone
descriptions. This information is required by WayPoint for passage
calculations from departure to arrival.
The setup dialog box may be accessed through different commands:
Menu Commands: Edit, Setup: Port/Zone
Shortcut keys: CTRL-Z
Toolbar
The port setup dialog box will open showing the current port and zone
description settings. If creating a new waypoint file then these settings
will be blank. The valid range for port zone descriptions is: -12 to +12.
Selecting the OK button will accept the modified entries and update the
waypoint list, while the Cancel button will ignore any changes made and
close the dialog box without updating.
The Port Setup function is active only when a waypoint list is displayed.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 18
Add Waypoint:
------------
The Add Waypoint function adds a new waypoint position to the end of the
waypoint list. This is a primary function for creating new waypoint lists.
(See Insert Waypoint)
The Add waypoint dialog box may be accessed through different commands:
File Commands: Edit, Add Waypoint
Keyboard: CTRL-A
Toolbar
When creating a new waypoint list the first two waypoints must be entered at
the same time. Once the initial two waypoints have been added to the list
all remaining waypoints are added individually.
Add Waypoint command buttons:
Calculate Calculates the coordinates and displays the course and
distance results in the Cse/Distance display. This option
is useful when comparing the difference in tracks for the
passage leg.
Add Adds the entered position to the end of the waypoint list.
All calculations for the waypoint list are updated with each
new waypoint.
Clear Entry Clears the Add Waypoint position fields.
Close Ignores the currently displayed position, closes the Add
Waypoint dialog and returns to the waypoint list without any
updating.
The Add Waypoint function is active only when a waypoint list is displayed.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 19
Insert Waypoint:
----------------
The Insert Waypoint function inserts a new waypoint between two existing
waypoints. This function works similar to the Add Waypoint function,
utilizing the same commands except that the new waypoint is inserted at a
designated position.
To Insert a waypoint, place the waypoint scroll bar on the waypoint where the
new wypoint is to be inserted. For example, if inserting a new waypoint
between waypoints (1) and (2), place the scroll bar on waypoint (2).
The Insert Waypoint dialog box may be accessed through different commands:
Menu Commands: Edit, Insert Waypoint
Keyboard: CTRL-I
Toolbar
Insert Waypoint command buttons:
Calculate Calculates the position and displays the course and distance
results between each waypoint in the two Cse/Distance display
areas. This option is useful when comparing the difference
in tracks for the passage leg.
Insert Wypt Inserts the position to between the two selected waypoints.
All calculations for the waypoint list are updated with each
inserted waypoint.
Clear Entry Clears the waypoint position fields.
Close Ignores the currently displayed position, closes the Insert
Waypoint dialog and returns to the waypoint list without any
updating.
The Insert Waypoint function is active only when waypoints are in a waypoint
list.

Rather than create entire new waypoint files, the Edit function modifies
existing waypoints to update a current passage as waypoints are changed but
not removed from the list.
To edit a waypoint, place the scroll bar on the desired waypoint and access
using one of the following methods:
Menu Commands: Edit, Edit Waypoint
Mouse: Double click on the waypoint
Shortcut keys: CTRL-E
Toolbutton
Edit Waypoint command buttons:
OK Accepts the entered information and updates the waypoint list.
The speed is reset to the end of the waypoint list.
Cancel Ignores any changes made and returns back to the waypoint list.
Master Files may be edited without restrictions. Working Enroute files
have a number of restrictions.
* The speed and distance calculations must remain within the program
parameters of 50 knots and passage duration of 120 days.
* Editing waypoints prior to position updates are restricted to the
description and track only. It is assumed that before a daily position is
obtained that waypoints are current.
* Editing removes any waypoint arrival eta's that may be present by
recalculating the passage with the new speed.
The Edit Waypoint function is active only when waypoints are in a waypoint
list.
Delete Waypoint:
----------------
To remove a waypoint from the list the Delete Waypoint function is used.
Prior to removal WayPoint will prompt for confirmation. There is no undo
feature in WayPoint. The delete function will delete any waypoint selected
on both Master and Working files. Deleting waypoints on a Working file will
recalculate passage information and reset the entire passage if the departure
or daily positions are removed.
To delete a file, place the scroll bar on the waypoint to be deleted and
select from the menu: Edit, Delete Waypoint
To accept, click the OK button. You will be prompted for final confirmation
to remove the waypoint from the list. Select yes if you are sure.
The Delete Waypoint function is active only when more than two waypoints are
in a waypoint list.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 21
Reset Passage:
--------------
The reset function is only available after departure has been taken and you
are editing a Working file. By selecting the reset function the current
waypoint list is reset back to a Working sail plan. All departure/arrival
times and daily positions are removed from the waypoint list.
To access the reset function select from the menu: Edit, Reset Passage
WayPoint will prompt for confirmation to remove all passage formatting from
the list. Remember that a Working file can also be saved as a Master sailing
plan by utilizing the file format option when saving files.
The Reset Passage function is available only for Working Enroute files where
departure has been taken.
Passage Charts:
---------------
Each waypoint file can have the charts required for the route entered and
saved with the file. There is no special formatting required for entering
the charts. Each waypoint file has three text lines available to accommodate
the list of required charts.
The list of charts will be printed along with the waypoint list and can be
viewed using the Chart function commands:
Menu Commands: Edit, Passage Charts
Shortcut keys: CTRL-C
Toolbutton
Voyage Notes:
------------
A voyage description can be entered by using the Voyage Notes function. The
description is displayed in the voyage summary screen and printed along with
the waypoint list.
Menu Commands: Edit, Voyage Notes
Shortcut keys: CTRL-N
Toolbutton
These functions are available only when a waypoint list is loaded.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 22

Chapter 5: Voyage Commands
--------------------------
Departure: Begin Voyage
-----------------------
To activate a route and calculate passage information a departure time must
first be entered. Departure times may be entered in both LMT or GMT formats.
The zone descriptions have been entered into WayPoint and therefore dates and
times will be quickly converted over to GMT for the inter-waypoint
calculations. All passage calculations are based upon a departure time for
the route, therefore most of the program's functions are unavailable until a
departure time is entered.
To access the departure function:
Menu Commands: Voyage, Departure: Begin Voyage
Keyboard: CTRL-D
Toolbutton
First determine how the departure time is to be entered, LMT or GMT, by
selecting the proper format option. All times will be converted on the
waypoint list to GMT formats, so it doesn't matter how the departure time is
entered. WayPoint takes care of the conversions. See Appendix A for more
on date and time formats.
The projected speed is automatically entered from the file setup, but can be
changed voyage to voyage. The voyage number and name of the watch officer
are optional items, but should be entered at this time as they are used in
the passage reports.
Entering a new departure time after a previous time has been entered will
reset the entire voyage of any formatting and recalculate the passage.
WayPoint will prompt for confirmation before resetting the departure times.
The Departure: Begin Passage function is available only when waypoints are
listed.
Daily Position Update:
----------------------
Once departure has been taken, the route must be monitored daily with
position updates if the reports and messages are to remain accurate. The
Daily Position Update function updates the passage with the commonly known
'Noon Postion'. With the use of modern electronics for navigating, the noon
position may now be taken at any given time that the vessel or company is
utilizing as a daily reporting time.
To access the Update function:
Menu Commands: Voyage, Daily Position Update
Keyboard: CTRL-U
Toolbutton
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 23
When first displayed the Passage Update dialog box will show the day and time
of the last update. Dates and times are in GMT format only. Using the Date
and Time text boxes, enter the day's reporting position time, then click on
the Calculate button to obtain a DR position. Information on the day's run
and total run will be displayed in the appropriate boxes along with a DR
position for the entered time. This position can be modified if a more
accurate one is available. When all the information is correct select the
Accept button to update the waypoint list. See Appendix A for more on date
and time formats.
The Passage Summary screen will be updated to reflect the latest daily
position.
When the Calculate button is clicked the date and time can not be changed
except by using the Clear Entry button. This will reset the Passage Update
dialog box so that a new time can be entered.
To ignore all entries, select the Cancel button to return to the waypoint
list without updating.
The Position Update function is available only after departure has been entered.
Arrival: Waypoint Position
--------------------------
When departure has been entered, every waypoint has a calculated ETA posted
to it. These ETA's may be updated to keep a more accurate track of the
passage. This function only updates the position's eta and recalculates the
speeds and times, it does not update the passage summary data.
This function can be used when a waypoint is reached and the time of arrival
is entered to update ETA's, or when a timed arrival is scheduled for a
certain waypoint and a required speed to make that arrival time is needed.
To access the Waypoint Arrival function, first place the scroll bar on the
waypoint to be updated.
Menu Commands: Voyage, Arrival: Waypoint Position
Keyboard: CTRL-Y
Toolbutton
If the scroll bar is on the departure or arrival points, the respective
dialog boxes will appear for those points with the option to use LMT or GMT.
All points in between use the standard ETA dialog box and require GMT times.
When the date and time are entered, select the OK button to update the
waypoint and return to the waypoint list. The remainder of the list will be
recalculated to reflect any changes made to the waypoint's ETA. See
Appendix A for more on date and time formats.
The dialog box for the Arrival Waypoint is the same as used by the
Arrival: End Passage dialog box. The two functions use the end voyage
toggle switch to determine how the function is to be used. For the waypoint
ETA/Arrival function the toggle is displayed in the unchecked mode. Do not
check this option for the ETA/Arrival function.
The Arrival Waypoint function is available only after departure has been entered.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 24
Arrival: End Passage
--------------------
A passage ends when arrival is taken at the final waypoint. The
Arrival: End Passage function finalizes the route with the arrival time. As
with the departure setup, when the arrival time is entered, LMT or GMT
formats may be used.
To access the arrival function:
Menu Commands: Voyage, Arrival: End Passage
Keyboard: CTRL-R
Toolbutton
When displayed the Arrival dialog box will show the current ETA as shown on
the list, in addition, the End Passage toggle will be checked. This tells
WayPoint that the passage has ended. Once entered the passage summary
display receives a final update for arrival.
The Arrival: End Passage function is available only after departure has been
entered.
ETA/Speed Calculations:
-----------------------
While a passage is underway a schedule of arrival ETA's for the Arrival
destination can be viewed and printed. The display box shows each calculated
ETA, in LMT and GMT format, with a corresponding required speed through a
range of selected speeds.
To calculate arrival ETA's:
Menu Commands: Voyage, ETA/Speed Calculations
Printer Options Menu ETA Calculations
Toolbutton
The following are non-changeable ETA displays:
Avg Spd The most recent day's run average speed. On departure this
value is the projected speed.
TAS Total average speed calculated from departure to the most
recent position update. On departure this value is 0 knots.
DTG Distance to go is is the remaining passage distance based upon
the latest position update.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 25
The following settings are used to adjust the ETA calculations:
Min/Max Sets the range for the ETA calculations. When first
displayed this range will be set 1.0 knot below and above
the latest average speed. The range is adjusted by entering
the desired range of speeds.
Increment Sets the decimal increment on how the range of speeds
between the Min and Max values are to be displayed. When
first displayed the initial increment is .5 knots.
Time The time display can be shown in either exact minute
calculations or rounded to the nearest tenth of an hour.
After the range of speeds has been inputed, press the calculate button to
display the calculations. To print the list of ETA's, press the print
command button.
The ETA/Speed Calculation function is available only after departure has been
entered.
---------------------------
Chapter 6: Utility Commands
---------------------------
Vessel Configuration:
--------------------
WayPoint must be configured to your vessel if it is to work properly. After
installing WayPoint on your computer, the first time you start the program,
the Vessel Configuration dialog box will be displayed. After the initial
configuration the dialog box can be accessed through menu commands.
The vessel configuration requires that the vessel's name, call sign and
proforma speed be entered. The default speed is 20 knots. Radio and
Inmarsat information is utilized by the AMVER message program.
Printer setup configures WayPoint for report printing. Select the proper
option on the type of printer that WayPoint will be generating reports.
The following commands can be used to access Vessel Configuration:
Menu Commands: Utility, Vessel Configuration
Keyboard: CTRL-G
Enter the vessel's name, company name (optional), call sign, communications
station, printer type and operating speed in the appropriate text boxes.
When all the information has been entered click on the Update button to save
the configuration.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 26
File Management:
---------------
It is possible that with a large number of data files being created that an
excess number of working files can be created. WayPoint has a file
management utility to remove excess Working files. Note that if the Master
sailing plan is always saved as a Working file then the old passage will be
overwritten thereby keeping the number of working files to a minimum. This
utility is useful for when sailing plans are modified and a large number of
old working files reside in the data directory.
This utility will only delete the working data files. The master sailing plans are not
effected by this utility.
The File Manager can be selected by the following commands:
Menu Commands: Utility, File Management
Keyboard: CTRL-M
To delete a working waypoint file it must first be selected and entered
into the Selected File list. This may be done by a number of options:
* Mouse select Double click on the desired file name
* Single Select Click once on the desired file and press the
Select button
* Multiple Select Use the mouse and click once on each file to be
deleted. Use the transfer [>>>>] button to transfer
all the selected files.
Pressing the Delete command will delete all listed files in the Selected File List.
You will be prompt for confirmation prior to deletion.
The Deselect command will remove the select highlight from all selected
highlights.
The procedures for transferring Selected Files back to the File list is done the same
way but with the commands listed on the Selected files side.
The Cancel command will ignore all selections and return back to WayPoint.

Chapter 7: Printing Commands
----------------------------
Print Options Menu:
-------------------
WayPoint has two avenues for printing options; the main menu commands and the
printer toolbutton . Using the toolbar will display a popup menu to open and
close the WayPoint reports. The main menu accesses these reports
individually. All the following command descriptions can be utilized by
using the printer toolbutton.
By clicking on the printer toolbutton the popup menu for printing options
will be displayed.
To select the desired printing option, click on the appropriate menu item.
The Waypoint List option will display the Print button whereas all other
items will display the Open button to open the reports for modifying. This
function is useful when multiple reports are to be printed in one session.
When a report function is unavailable for printing, the option will not
activate when clicked on. For example, if departure has not been entered
then the passage and AMVER reports will not be accessible.
Printing: Waypoint List
------------------------
A report of the waypoint list can be printed showing detailed information of
each waypoint. If a departure time has been entered the report will also
contain the scheduled ETA for each waypoint.
Additional commands to print a waypoint list are:
Menu Commands: Print, Waypoint List
Keyboard: CTRL-W
Printing: Position Report
--------------------------
After Position updates have been started on a passage the print option for
daily position reports becomes available. The position report is a summary
report updated with each position udpate.
The daily report is broken down into four sections:
* Position Latitude, Longitude and time of position.
* Day's Run Distance gone, average speed and total hours run from
last position update.
* Total Run Total distance gone, total average speed and total time
of passage (displayed in hours and time format)
* ETA summary Distance to go, speed required and projected eta
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 28
Additional commands to print a daily position report are:
Menu Commands: Print, Position Report
Keyboard: CTRL-P
When opened the Position Report displays the date and time in GMT format as
taken from the waypoint list. Using the assigned text boxes the report can
be modified to display the LMT format for printing purposes. The Report
Title and Date Display automatically changes as the date and time text boxes
are modified.
The copies option sets the number of reports to be printed.
Because daily reports are printed in pairs, the choices available are 2, 4
and 6 copies, with 6 copies (3 pairs) printed per page.
The remarks and watch officer text boxes can be modified as needed on a daily
basis.
Printing: Arrival Report
-------------------------
The Arrival Report is similar to the Position Report in that a summary of
the day's run and total run is generated. The arrival report is designed to
end the passage with a final report. To generate an Arrival Report the
passage must first be finalized by entering the arrival time through the
Arrival: End Passage function.
Additional commands to print an Arrival Report are:
Menu Commands: Print, Arrival Report
The time display for the Arrival report is in LMT format. An option is
available to change the format display for the date.
The copies option sets the number of reports to be printed. As with the
position reports, arrival reports are printed in pairs. The choices
available are 2, 4 and 6 copies, with 6 copies (3 pairs) printed per page.
The remarks and watch officer text boxes can be modified as needed.
Printing: AMVER Messages
-------------------------
AMVER messages are available for printing after departure has been entered.
Of the five message formats specified for the AMVER program only four are
used by WayPoint. The Sailing Plan message is combined with the Departure
Report message to make a single report. AMVER is explained in more detail
in Appendix C.
The following message reports are provided by WayPoint:
* Departure Message Combined with the Sailing Plan, provides the route
information, speeds and ETA's for the projected
passage.
WayPoint for Windows v1.0 Page 29
* Position Report Provides information obtained from the last Position
Update
* Deviation Report Used to report sailing plan and other changes
* Arrival Report Reports vessel's arrival at destination port
Menu commands to access the AMVER messages are:
Menu Commands: Print, AMVER
The AMVER message is compiled automatically. The optional X/, V/ and Y/
lines are added as needed.
------------------------------
Chapter 8: Navigation Commands
------------------------------
Sailings:
---------
WayPoint provides three calculators for calculating the Great Circle,
Mercator and DR sailings. These tools are independent of the waypoint list
and therefore may be opened and closed without effecting the waypoint files.
Great Circle & Track Points:
---------------------------
The great circle calculator will calculate the sailing information between
two known positions. The distance, vertex points, initial and final course,
and adjustable track points are displayed with each calculation. A option
to print the track points is also available.
To open the Great Circle calculator:
