Welcome to the Flanker 2.0 Demo. This demo program is a scaled-back version of Flanker 2.0 with the following conditions:
╖ The Instant Combat mode is a SIMPLIFIED flight model and can be used for a period of five minutes. After the five-minute period the mission will end.
╖ The Training Missions are not available in the Demo version.
╖ Campaigns can not be played or created in the Demo version.
╖ Two Pilot Missions are available that can be flown for a five minute period. These use the realistic flight model. One mission ("The Urge to Merge") is a "guns only" air to air mission flying the Su-33 against an F-15. The second mission is a ground attack mission ("Roland's Song") using the Su-33 against a Roland air defense unit.
╖ A limited Order of Battle is available for use with the Mission Editor.
╖ The Mission Editor is not fully functional and will allow you to modify or create missions without the ability to save the mission files.
╖ Carrier operations are not available for the Russian side. Only the U.S. carrier is available for AI controlled carrier aviation.
╖ Multi-player features are not available in the demo version.
╖ A limited number of aircraft and vehicles may be viewed using the Encyclopedia.
INSTALLATION
The default setting for the Flanker 2.0 Demo is set at a medium level for graphics. Depending upon your hardware, you may want to increase or decrease individual settings in the Options menu. Click on the Options button on the main menu to gain access to these settings.
Ensure that you have the latest drivers for all of your hardware. The number one cause of graphics problems is old video card drivers. Visit your video card manufacturer's website to find the latest drivers.
Defrag your hard drive. This should be done prior to installation of Flanker 2.0. Sometimes Windows will say that you have a low fragmentation percentage and that you do not need to run the defragmentation program. Defrag your hard drive anyway and you should get better performance.
Run Scan Disk before you install also. This will help insure a clean installation.
Have no other programs running while playing the game. You may want to disable some applications that begin at startup. Programs like virus checkers and utility schedulers take up valuable memory and resources. They are not required to run Flanker 2.0. You should turn them off by double-clicking on the various icons or you may want to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and bring up the dialog box that lists everything currently running in Windows to see what is loaded into memory. NOTE: Be sure you know what you are turning off before you do so!
FindFast is usually loaded into memory and will not need to be used in Flanker 2.0.
Ensure that you have at least 250MB of free hard drive space on your primary hard drive for swap file space.
Select the Options settings in the game that best fit your computer. Select what graphic options are the most important to you. If you have the maximum setting on then you need to have a high-end machine with lots of memory and performance capability.
In playing a 3D game, realize that the bigger the mission and the more objects that are in that mission, the slower your performance will be. If you find that your performance is still slow after optimizing your computer, then try running smaller missions.
It is recommended that you exit Flanker if you want to open another application. Minimizing Flanker and then opening another application will cause very slow performance.
If you want to check how much of your RAM is available
* Right mouse click on My Computer
* Select Properties
* Select the Performance Tab
* This menu will show your computer's RAM and the percentage that is available.
When you start your first mission in Flanker, there is a big graphic jump (mostly on lower end machines). This occurs because the program is loading textures for the mission. This generally does not occur when you start your second and subsequent missions. This is most noticeable in the training missions. To work around this, select the S key (pause) at the very start of the first mission after starting Flanker 2.0. You can also start a mission, quit and then start it again and the problem will be gone. This problem only occurs with the first mission run after starting a new session.
