Unreal Theme
by fatboy
fatboy@ida.net
If you are using Microsoft Plus!....
Unzip these files into C:\program files\plus!\themes\unreal. If you installed plus to a
different drive or directory then change the destination according.
In the \themes\unreal directory locate the file Unreal.theme. Make a copy of it by right
clicking on the file and selecting "copy" from the popup menu. Go back to the previous
directory, themes, and paste the file into that directory by right clicking and selecting paste.
This process will allow you to select the Unreal theme from the pull down menu in your themes
setting without changing directories.
If you are using Left Side Software's Desktop Themes Program.
Unzip the file. When I was using this program I usually unzipped to a temp directory but
I suppose you could unzip it to the Plus!\themes directory as well.
Start up the Themes program. Click on the option to install themes. Click Browse and guide
the computer to the directory where you unzipped this theme. Highlight it and click install.
Enjoy the theme! While you are surfing the web, stop by my themes page at
www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/fatbit/460/themes.htm.
How this theme was created
and other useless information.
I don't suppose anyone will read this but I'll write it anyway.
I used a demo verion of Paint Shop Pro 5 to make the wallpaper using resources from the internet.
I left the extra space around the wallpaper so you can have a place to put all your icons ,
and, if you are using Internet Explorer 4.0, you active channel bar. I am not completely
satisfied with the picture quality, but thats one of the downfalls of graphic compression.
The cursors and icons were made with MicroAngelo. The animated cursors started out as bitmaps
with a string of sequential images that were meant to replace the animated N in the Netscape
Navigator logo with the images you see now as busy and working in background cursors. I found
these on the internet as well. Using the screen capture tool in Microangelo, I took a snapshot
of each "frame," a rather tedious process, and imported them into Microangelo Animator where
they became animated cursors. To create the other nonstandard cursors I found pictures on the
web, saved them to my computer, used paint shop pro to convert theme to bitmaps, and then
used the "open bitmap as image" option in Microangelo to make the images into cursors. The
standard cursors are just the average 3d cursors that I colored to fit into the color scheme
of this theme.
I think the best part of this theme is the sounds. The sound effects were easy to obtain thanks
to the Unreal Level Editor. This allows you to extract any sound from the game and save it
as a wave file. Neat, Huh? The Music for the start and exit widows sound is from the
audio soundtrack to the game which I got when I bought the unreal strategy guide.
