  8. PICINFO will take the name of a file and attempt to idenify the type of
  9. picture file and then print out some information contained within the
  10. file.  Currently recognized with information are IFF ILBM files, GIF
  11. and SRGR files.  All of these display the size of the bitmap and also
  12. the number of bitplanes.  Extra information is displayed about IFF ILBM
  13. files.

  16. HISTORY (most current improvements first)
  17. V1.04 - 26 September 1992
  18. Added directory support.  If a directory or device is given as argument
  19. then that is searched recursively for all pictures and the information
  20. printed about every picture. Also added P6 file information.  Now
  21. tells what the size of picture and how many color registers.

  23. V1.03 - 25 September 1992
  24. Added GIF information. Finally found out how the size of the page and
  25. also the number of bitplanes were stored.  Currently only GIF87a files
  26. are displayed with the correct information as far as I know.  I have no
  27. GIF89a files to test this on.

  30. Added SRGR file information.  Only gives basic information.  Size of
  31. bitmap and tells that file has 24 bitplanes.  Whether this is true or
  32. not I don't know but I am assuming that all SRGR files are 24-bit.
  33. If I am wrong please tell me how to find out otherwise.  I have no way
  34. of viewing these so I don't know that I am getting the right info.

  36. V1.01 - 23 September 1992
  37. Added extra information to IFF ILBM display.  Now know the aspect
  38. ratios and also the page size of the picture. (Is not always the same
  39. as the picture.  I have a picture of bitmap size 610 X 513 but the page
  40. size is only 600 X 7.  Thats what the IFF header says anyway.)

  43. Started PicInfo.  Can identify IFF ILBM, GIF, SRGR, PPM, P6, JPEG and
  44. specially crunched pictures but only knows information about IFF ILBM
  45. files so far.  Keep watching this station for further updates.
