Mand2000D is the demo version of Mand2000, a fractal exploration
program created by Cygnus Software. Mand2000 is a tryware program. You
can use the demo version all you want, give it to your friends, put it on
club disks and post it to bulletin boards, as long as you distribute this
notice, the help file and the example ARexx scripts with it. If you wish
to put Mand2000D on a cover disk, or otherwise benefit from the
distribution, you must ask our permission first. The TweenPlayer can also
be distributed, subject to the same restrictions.
This demo version has had save disabled, and will occasionally
bring up a text requester to remind you that it is a demo version. The
release version does save of course, and no annoying requesters will
appear. Additional features that the release version has include ARexx
documentation, much more help, and some extra fractal programs, some with
source code.
The full version of Mand2000 can be purchased for US $44.95 direct
from Cygnus Software, shipping included. Sorry, no credit cards. Cheques
drawn on a US bank, money order, postal money order or US cash. Until Dec
1, 1994 Mand2000 2.0 is available for a special introductory offer of
$34.95, shipping included.
New for version2.0
One of the most important improvements to version 2.0 of Mand2000
is the addition of HAM rendering of fractals. Fractals which looked boring
in 32 colours or merely average in 256 colours can now look stunning in
4096 colour HAM or 262,144 colours in HAM8. This also means that when you
have multiple fractal images displayed, each image can have a separate
palette, and each palette can be thousands of colours. As a side effect,
Mand2000 2.0 makes a pretty good multi-window IFF image viewer - it loads
all standard IFF images, including IFF24.
The other major improvement is improved animation support. When
rendering morph movies (from the morph requester) or iteration or julia
movies (from the ARexx added menus in the user menu) Mand2000 can create
animation files directly. This is faster, uses less disk space, and is far
more convenient than creating the frames and later assembling them into an
animation.
Read the help for `Rendering mode' and `Set colours' for more
information.
For more information on what makes Mand2000 unique and worthwhile,
run Mand2000D and select the `Help and Info' menu, then select the
`Overview' gadget.
Installation:
If you received the Mand2000 demo as a file with a .lha extension
you will need a program called `lha'. Open up a CLI and type the following
command: lha x Mand2000Demo.lha. This will create a directory called
"Mand2000Demo" in your current directory with all of the Mand2000 files.
If you received the Mand2000 demo as a set of files, simply copy
these files into a directory on your harddrive.
Then you should copy the arexx from the Mand2000Demo directory to
your REXX: directory. This will cause several excellent new commands to
appear in Mand2000's `user' menu.
Trouble shooting:
Mand2000 runs on all Amigas with AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher and makes
full use of the AGA chipset when present. It has been tested for
compatibility on Amiga 2000s, 3000s, 4000s, 500s and 1200s, with 68000,
68020, 68030 and 68040 processors, and should run on all other models as
well. Mand2000 has also been tested and found to work well on many
different third party graphics boards. If you have AmigaDOS 3.0 or higher,
Mand2000 will run in 256 colour mode on these boards.
If Mand2000 fails to run properly on your machine, the problem is
usually due to some other program on your Amiga which is corrupting
Mand2000's memory. Try removing all non-Commodore programs from your
WBStartup and user-startup and see if this fixes the problem. Some dongles
can cause problems with Mand2000's joystick scrolling - if this is a
problem, turn off joystick scrolling in the 'setmisc' requester.
If you still have problems, please contact us, preferably at our
e-mail address (listed above) and we'll try to help you out.
What is Mand2000?
Mand2000 is meant to be nothing less than the finest Mandelbrot
exploration program available on any computer. We have attempted to
combine speed, power and simplicity with a few unique features, all
designed to make it easy for you to discover uncharted regions of the
Mandelbrot and Julia sets.
The TweenPlayer is for playing TweenMovies, which are created from
the `Make zoom movie' menu in Mand2000D. Read the online help for further
information.
How do you use Mand2000?
To start using Mand2000, the simplest thing to do is to place the
mouse over an interesting area, one of the areas with lots of detail, and
then double click the left mouse button. The picture will zoom in, placing
the area under the mouse in the centre of the screen. You can continue
doing this as many times as you like, searching for interesting areas. To
zoom out press `D'. To scroll the picture around, hold down the left mouse
button and drag, or use the arrow keys, the numeric keypad, or a joystick.
For full information on how to use Mand2000, read the help
associated with the individual menu items. Just highlight a menu item and
press the HELP key or press the HELP key any time a requester is active.
For more information on what makes Mand2000 unique and worthwhile,
run Mand2000D and select the `Help and Info' menu, then select the
`Overview' gadget.
Also by Cygnus Software:
Cygnus Software's other major product is CygnusEd. CygnusEd is a
high performance text editor, featuring what is probably still the fastest
scrolling and text rendering of any editor on the Amiga today. Add to that
such invaluable features as unlimited undo, etc., etc. Version 3.5 of
CygnusEd was extensively updated to take advantage of the features that 2.0
has to offer. 3-D gadgets, public screens, the standard file, font and
screen requesters, and the full AGA screen resolutions. Meanwhile CygnusEd
still maintains full compatibility with version 1.3 of the operating
system, bringing the 3-D gadgetry to 1.3. CygnusEd 3.5's macro and
configuration files and ARexx scripts are almost 100% compatible with
earlier versions. CygnusEd is published by Elastic Reality, Inc., and is
available in Amiga stores for a suggested retail price of $119.95.
Remember, although CygnusEd was written by Cygnus Software, it is sold
through Elastic Reality, Inc., and NOT through Cygnus Software.
Mand2000 was created with CygnusEd and Aztec C.
Enjoy!
