- NOTES FOR CDTV/CD32 USERS
- (Updated 3/25/94)
-
- The first two FreshFish CD-ROM's (October 1993 and December 1993) were
- produced using Commodore's mastering software and were bootable on the
- CDTV and CD32. Because of the relatively expensive license fees
- required to be paid to Commodore for each such bootable CD-ROM sold
- (more than the actual cost of pressing the CD-ROM), and the relatively
- small numbers of users that currently make use of this feature, I
- decided to switch to different mastering software with the March/April
- 1994 FreshFish CD-ROM, and now this Apr 94 FrozenFish CD-ROM.
-
- This does not necessarily mean that you cannot use the FrozenFish
- CD-ROM's on a CDTV or CD32, it just means you may need to acquire
- additional hardware in order to do so. In the case of the CDTV, you
- will need a floppy disk drive in order to boot the CDTV, and a
- suitable WorkBench disk. In the case of the CD32, you will also need
- an expansion box that adds a floppy disk port to the CD32 (such
- expansions are under development by several companies).
-
- If you wish to run ParNet or some similar software on the CDTV or
- CD32, it will need to be set up on the WorkBench disk you boot from.
- When I get time, I will put together a suitable WorkBench disk with
- additional support pieces like ParNet, SerNet, ParNFS, etc, and offer
- it for direct distribution (but not redistribution) under my current
- WorkBench licenses.
-
- It is possible that future CD-ROM's will be offered in two different
- forms, one which is CDTV/CD32 bootable and one which is not. It is
- expected that the CDTV/CD32 bootable disks will be more expensive
- ($5-$10), reflecting the cost of the Commodore license fees and the
- smaller production runs for those CD-ROM's.
-
- Most of the programs in this compilation where designed for use on the
- Amiga computer and not necessarily on the CDTV or CD32. The programs
- may require more memory than is currently available in the CDTV/CD32.
- These programs may not run properly on the CDTV/CD32. They may also
- require hardware that is not available on the stock CDTV/CD32 system.
-
- To fully utilize the programs on the disc, using the CDTV/CD32 system,
- you may need to add the optional keyboard, mouse, floppy drive, and
- RGB monitor. Some of the files in this collection may be stored in
- compressed formats and need to be decompressed to a floppy or hard
- disk to run.
