I. Introduction
Welcome to CDTV-Player 1.0ß. This program is designed to simplify
use of Audio-CD's with your CDTV. Until now you've only got either
the possibility to start the an Audio-CD on it's special screen (no
multitasking possible) or to start it from workbench by pressing the
play button. If you choose the second possibility you are not able
to acquire any information about the Audio-CD, except for the title
number. I know that there aren't so many CDTV's around the world,
but the number is increasing and hopefully this program works with
Commodore's A570/A670 CD-ROM-Drives (I'm not sure about that, since
I haven't got the possibility to try it out, but if they use the
'cdtv.device' it's almost for sure). This program is PUBLIC-DOMAIN.
You can use it for what ever you like, but only if you copy it with
the doc-files. If you use it for professional matters, please mention
my name. Thank you.
II. manual
Here's a short explanation of all gadgets:
REW : Decreases track number (REWIND).
PLAY : Plays actual track.
FF : Increases track number (FAST FORWARD).
PAUSE : Pauses track playing.
STOP : Stops track playing.
FADE : Fades volume up and down.
DISPLAY: There are five modes of display.
1. Track time played.
2. Track time left.
3. Overall time played.
4. Overall time left.
5. No display (save's processing time).
Mode 2&3 can only be accessed, when SINGLE is off.
SINGLE : You can choose between playing one song or the whole disk.
There is a proportional gadget on the right side of the window where
you can fine-tune the volume of the output.
The display field in the lower part of the window is divided into
three parts:
CD-Audio: Shows actual track or total track number of disk.
Playtime: Shows time as defined with the DISPLAY-gadget.
Status : Shows what program is doing.
III. problems
There is a problem when introducing a new CD into the player. If the
player does not seem to work, try to re-introduce the disk. In many
cases it will be fine then. If that does not work quit the program
and restart it with the new disk in the drive. Please write to me
if you find any other mistakes.
IV. future applications
First of all I'll add all the conveniences of the better CD-Player
like SHUFFLE, SCAN, PROGRAM, TIME FADE, REPEAT etc.
Then I'm thinking about a function called KARAOKE. This is a bit more
complicated, since the text has to be one screen at the right moment.
But it would be a cheap way to use all (!) of your CD's for Karaoke.
There's actually only the problem of the lyrics' copyright, so everybody
would have to key them in for his own use. Maybe there are some record
companies out there, who would be interested. How about 70 minutes of
music on CD and 880KB Text & Graphics on a FLOPPY DISK?
As soon as I can get information on CD+G I would introduce this
function, too. If somebody of Commodore is reading this, please contact
me (I've tried to contact Commodore a few times, but nobody could help
me so far). Together with CD+G I would introduce a screen-grabber in
order to save the graphics to floppy (this might be interesting with
Madonna's forthcoming 'EROTICA'-CD).
If the program works with the A570/A670 CD-ROM-Drives, I would introduce
an AREXX-Port. This would enable other programs to use the functions
of the CDTV-Player for their own use (for example Multi-Media-
Applications).
If somebody out there has some other suggestions, needs or useful
information then please write to me.
You may write to me in
Cesky, Deutsch, English, Français, Italiano, Russkij.
