  8. ANNOUNCEMENT: Ami-Back v1.04 upgrade.

  10.      Ami-Back is the state-of-the-art hard drive backup and scheduling
  11. utility for the Commodore Amiga.  Ami-Back is the fastest and most
  12. versatile hard drive backup utility availible for the Amiga.
  13.  
  14.      MoonLighter Software Development, Inc., is pleased to announce
  15. Ami-Back v1.04.  With this new version, Ami-Back will meet all your backup
  16. needs.  Here are just some of the features we've added.
  17.  
  18. NEW FEATURES:
  19.  
  20.    o  MULTI-DEVICE (partition) Backup/Restore - Now you can backup any
  21.       or ALL of your partitions at once.  This feature will work to ANY
  22.       device Ami-Back supports such as floppies, HD floppies, removeable
  23.       hard drives, SCSI tape drives, AmigaDOS file, and ANY other AmigaDOS
  24.       device.
  25.       
  26.       NOTE: Names are separated by a "Space".
  27.  
  28.    o  IMAGE Backup/Restore - Now you can do an Image Backup/Restore of any
  29.       or ALL of your partitions (devices).  This will make it easy for
  30.       users with AMAX, UNIX, or other partitions that are not normally
  31.       accessed by AmigaDOS backups.  This backup can also be done to ANY
  32.       device supported by Ami-Back (see above).  This option is NOT limited
  33.       to TAPE ONLY!

  35.    o  MULTIPLE CONFIG SCHEDULER - Ami-Back's graphics scheduler now supports
  36.       multiple backup configurations.  This will, for example, allow you to
  37.       do a complete backup of one partition one night, then do an
  38.       incremental backup the next night.  You don't need to write any
  39.       scripts - Ami-Sched is a graphical interface scheduler!

  41.       Activation/Inactivation of each configuration is possible.

  43.    o  COMPARE MODE - Ami-Back's compare mode now allows the user to select
  44.       the parameters to use during the comparative restore operation.
  45.  
  46.    o  HARD/SOFT LINKS - Ami-Back now supports Hard and Soft links under
  47.       AmigaDOS 2.0.
  48.  
  49.    o  REBUILD INDEX:  This option allows you to rebuild an index from a 
  50.       previous backup.  This is very hand if the index gets currupted or
  51.       deleted.

  53.    o  EXCLUSION FILTER:  The previous "File Exclusion Filter" has been
  54.       modified.  It now allows exclusion of Directories, and IS NOT
  55.       case sensitive.  Therefore allowing you up to 100 exclusion
  56.       parameters for Directories and Files.
  57.       
  58.    o  SNAPSHOT:  Like icons Ami-Back will allow you to place it anywhere
  59.       on the screen then take a "SnapShot" of its location.  This was
  60.       needed due to the screen modes on the Ami-Back.  Ami-Back's window
  61.       size is 640x200.
  62.       
  63.    o  AmiBackFIFOPort:  Added to prevent multiple executions of Ami-Back
  64.       at one time.
  65.       
  66.    o  KEYBOARD EQUIVLENT COMMANDS:  (WorkBench 2.0 only version)  Virtually
  67.       ALL gadgets now have a KeyBoard Equivlent.  This makes getting around
  68.       easier for those who like the keyboard.

  70.    o  MANY MORE FEATURES - There are many more enhancements to Ami-Back.

  74.    o  UPGRADE RELEASE DATE:  Expected release date of v1.04 is July 8, 1991.
  75.       This is a FREE upgrade to registered Ami-Back owners.

  77. SPECIAL NOTE:  We have had numerous call about Ami-Back operation with SCSI
  78.    Tape Drives.  With Ami-Back NOT like other Amiga Hard Disk programs
  79.    requires NO special software!  No mounting of the Tape Drive is required!
  80.    All you need is a SCSI-I or SCSI-II (Industry Standard) SCSI Tape drive
  81.    and Ami-Back.  You will find that this also has MANY advantages (ie..
  82.    80-100% speed increase, and works with more tape drives).

  84. USING DEMO:
  85.  
  86.    1) Copy Ami-Back20 (and Ami-Back20.info) to your hard drive; preferably
  87.       to the sys:tools directory.
  88.       
  89.    2) Execute the program either from SHELL or from WorkBench using the
  90.       icon.
  91.       
  92.    3) Set up the backup configuration (see menus).  Save your
  93.       configuration.
  94.       
  95.       NOTE: You should set up the Program Configuration also. The log file,
  96.       index file(s), and File Exclusion Filter all default to the s: directory.
  97.       
  98.    4) Most of program functions should be self explanatory.  There are no
  99.       docs included with the DEMO version.  A detailed manual is included
  100.       when you purchase Ami-Back.

  102.    5) You will be able to perform backups to ANY device Ami-Back supports.

  105.       NOTE:  Applied Engineering's driver for the High Density Floppy drive
  106.       currently does not work under Kickstart version 36.207 or greater.

  108.       NOTE:  This version of Ami-Back v1.04 DEMO REQUIRES a KickStart version
  109.       of 37.xxx or greater!

  111.       NOTE:  To perform a Multi-Device backup enter the names of the Devices/
  112.       Partitions/Directories in the Backup Source String Gadget and SEPARATE
  113.       them with a SPACE.

  115. OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION and FEATURES:

  117.    o  Ami-Back will backup to floppies, HD floppies, removable hard drives,
  118.       fixed hard drive partitions, SCSI tape drives, AmigaDOS file, and
  119.       any AmigaDOS compatable device.
  120.  
  121.       NOTE:  Ami-Back uses "SCSI Direct Commands" for communicating with
  122.              SCSI tape drives. This allows a wider range of tape drive support.
  123.              Ami-Back does NOT require mounting of the tape drive or any
  124.              special handler software.  Because of this, Ami-Back performs
  125.              backups to tape at speeds 80-100% greater than the other programs
  126.              that do not support SCSI Direct Commands.

  128.    o  Performs complete, incremental (by date, archive bit), and selective
  129.       backups.
  130.    o  Performs complete, selective restores.
  131.    o  Allows control of protection bits, and file datestamps during restores.
  132.    o  Allows you to Write-Over, Skip-Over, or Rename files during restores.
  133.    o  Compare mode compares backed-up data to system data if data loss is
  134.       suspected.
  135.    o  User-configurable scheduler (no scripts) allows for unattended backups.
  136.    o  Log file keeps track of background scheduler operations.
  137.    o  Background backups may be performed manually or called from AmigaDOS
  138.       Arexx scripts.
  139.    o  Technical support for registered users provided by phone, support BBS,
  140.       Bix, and Genie.
  141.    o  Two versions are included.  One for Workbench 1.x and one for
  142.       Workbench 2.0 ONLY.
  143.    o  Ami-Back is the fastest hard drive backup program for the Amiga.
  144.    o  Ami-Back is multitasking friendly.
  145.    o  Ami-Back is not copy protected in any way.
