  2.                          SAC 2000 version 5.0

  4.      The Saguaro Astonomy Club's Deep-Sky database, version 5.0, is now
  5. available.  The database contains information on 10,368 non-stellar
  6. objects.  This is the README file for the Amiga, which lists the differ-
  7. ences from the standard PC distribution.

  9.      The most obvious difference is that the Amiga version comes on one
  10. floppy disk.  This is because the 3.5" disk can hold the entire ZOO'ed
  11. database while the PC version must have it split between two 360K disks.
  12.  
  13.      The database itself is distributed as an ASCII text file.  I made
  14. sure that the CR/LFs found in PC text files have been converted to just
  15. LFs (which is standard in the Unix and Amiga worlds).  Rather than
  16. rearchiving each section of the database into its own ARC file, I put
  17. them all into one ZOO file (since ZOO is more commom over a wider range
  18. of machines, including Unix and the Amiga).  I did archive all the PC
  19. specific files (there was a report generator), but since they were for
  20. the PC, they would be mostly useless on the Amiga.  They are included
  21. for completeness.

  23.      The database itself is about 1.2 Mbytes, but after being loaded
  24. into a database, expands to around 2.4 Mbytes.  So the database is most
  25. useful on a hard drive.  The complete text database can be generated
  26. using the AmigaDOS command:

  28.    JOIN sac50b.txt sac50c.txt sac50d.txt sac50e.txt AS sac50.txt

  30. This will merge all the database pieces into one file.
