- Chapter I
-
- Installation
- 1. What is ATCopy?
-
- ATcopy is the Amiga-sided program to replace the Commodore Amiga
- Janus-Software-Parcel commands 'ARead' and 'AWrite'. This means you
- can use the program to copy files between the Amiga and the XT-
- AT-board or the Sidecar or vice versa.
-
- But ATCopy is much smarter than the commands 'ARead' and 'AWrite'.
- You can use this program from either the CLI or the Workbench. If you
- prefer the intuition based way, all actions can be done by a simple
- mouseclick. Furthermore ATCopy is able to remove, create or show
- files and directories on both sides of the system. ATCopy supports
- all kind of files.
-
- 2. The needed hardware
-
- ATCopy will work with an Amiga 1000, 2000, 2500 and 3000 under the
- Kickstart-versions 1.3 and 2.0, if an Sidecar (only Amiga 1000) or an
- XT- or an AT-board is installed.
-
- 3. The needed AmigaDOS- and PC-DOS-Knowledge
-
- In this manual it is assumed, that you are confided with the normal
- funktions of the Amiga and the PC-part, as descriped in the re-
- spective Commodore manuals. If not, please read the manuals again.
-
- 4. How to install the program
-
- ATCopy is divided in several parts. Surely the file 'ATCopy' and the
- file 'ATCopy.info' is part of the parcel. Futhermore the file
- 'ATCOPY.EXE' on the PC-side is needed. And the last file is
- 'ATCopy.Config' in the currend S: drawer. All these files are, in
- the normal Amiga format, on this disk.
-
- You can install these files by simply double-click the install-icon.
- But of course you must boot your Amiga from your normal PC-boot-disk.
- Otherwise the files of the Janus-Software-Parcel won't be found. If
- you want to install the program manualy, please copy the files
- 'ATCopy' and 'ATCopy.info' to the directory, which contains the other
- PC-files. Normaly this will be SYS:PC. The file 'ATCopy.Config' must
- reside in the S directory of your boot disk or your harddisk.
-
- To copy the file 'ATCOPY.EXE', please make sure that :
-
- Boot your PC-part (Sidecar, XT or AT) as usual.
-
- Please make sure, that 'PCDisk' has been started on the
- Amiga.
-
- Now type the following command on the PC-side.
-
- aread DF0:PC/ATCOPY.EXE C: /B
-
- If you don't have access to an harddisk, replace the 'C:' by
- 'A:'.
-
- Now check the file 'AUTOEXEC.BAT', if the root directory is
- already mentioned in the 'PATH'. For example
-
- PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\SYSTEM\JANUS
-
- Please change this line or copy the file 'ATCOPY.EXE' in an
- directory mentioned by the 'PATH'-command. In this example
- the directories 'C:\DOS' and 'C:\SYSTEM\JANUS' will be ok.
-
- After done this the installation is completed and you can forget the
- commands 'ARead' and 'AWrite'.
-
- The programauthor won't give any warranty of statements in this
- manual. No responsibility for any defekts generated by using the
- manual nor the program will be given. I you find any bugs in the
- manual or in the program, please send me a short report.
-
- Chapter II
-
- 1. Manual of ATCopy
-
- You can use ATCopy either from the CLI or by a doubleclick from the
- workbench. The program 'PCDisk' on the Amiga-side is not requiered,
- but of coure you can use it.
-
- The Amiga program ATCopy will atempt to start the PC-side program
- 'ATCOPY.EXE' by itself. Therefore it is requiered that :
-
- The PC-side must already be booted.
-
- At this moment no other PC-program is running. This will
- mean that, you will see the normal prompt like 'A:\>' or
- 'C:\>'. As you surely will know the PC ist not an
- Multitasking Computer. Because the Amiga-side ATCopy will
- start the PC-side by simulating the keyboard, you must also
- terminate the PC-DOS-Version 4.0 shell.
-
- Furthermore you must make sure, that the directory which
- will contain the file 'ATCOPY.EXE' is included in the
- 'PATH'-list. (see Chapter I / 4,installation).
-
- Please remember, that a filename on an PC is limited to 8 chars
- followed by an optional single dot and an extension of maximal 3
- chars. Below you will see a list of char, which are not allowed in
- PC-filenames.
-
- --------------------------------------------
- | |
- | . " \ / [ ] : | < > + = ; , |
- | |
- --------------------------------------------
-
- Capital- and nocapital letters in filenames won't differ, but intern
- all char will be converted to capitals. If you copy files from the
- Amiga to the PC, the filename would change to :
-
- Amiga-file PC-file
-
- DemoDatei.info ===> DEMODATE.INF
-
- This is a file. ===> THISISAF.
-
- How to use from workbench
-
- After a doubleclick at the icon you will see a requester showing the
- version and the support address. Terminate this requester by a click
- to the 'OK' gadget. Now you will see a window, which is quite simular
- to an normal CLI-Tool. But look at the rigth side. Yes, it will show
- you the PC files and dirs.
-
- Menus
-
- ABOUT (right-Amiga + A)
-
- This will show you the requester again. Terminate with 'OK'.
-
- HELP (right-Amiga + H)
-
- Show an short online help. You can change this text (see
- chapter config file).
-
- FIT (Amiga-rechts + F)
-
- With this function you will get a overview of all selected
- files and dirs. Espaccialy the selected dirs and subdirs
- will be scaned and the wohle selected size is shown. So you
- are able to determine if these files will fit on the
- destination disk or not.
-
- ICONIFY (right-Amiga + I)
-
- The ATCopy-window will shrink to an icon. Continue with an
- doubleclick at this icon.
-
- QUIT (right-Amiga + Q)
-
- Terminate ATCopy.
-
- GADGETS
-
- BINARY LF<->CRLF ONLY CHARS CONVERT ALL
-
- One, and only one, of this gadgets is active. I have changed the names
- of the options from 'ARead' and 'AWrite'. But they will be
- compatible. 'BINARY' is equal to the option '/B'. Normaly you will
- use this option to copy binary or compressed files. 'LF<->CRLF' is
- equal to '/NC' (No Conversion). Here only the differences between LF
- (LineFeed) and CRLF (CarriageReturn/LineFeed) is assimilated. But not
- the differences in the national charsets. 'ONLY CHARS' is equal to
- the option 'CR'. This is the counterpart to 'LF<->CRLF' and will
- assimilate the national charset, but not LF to CRLF. The last but not
- least gadget 'CONVERT ALL' will do both, convert the national charset
- and the LF and CRLF. This option is equal to specify no option in
- the commands 'ARead' or 'Awrite'.
-
- Normaly with the gadget 'CONVERT ALL' you will copy text-files and
- with the gadget 'BINARY' you will copy .EXE files.
-
- In the next row, you will see the free bytes in the currend disks
- on both sides.
-
- DF0: DF1: DH0: A:\ B:\ C:\
-
- Right under this row you will see some gadgets showing the devices on
- both sides. As you surely know, on the PC-side floppydrives are
- labeled as 'A:' and 'B:', while harddisks or ramdisks are labeled as
- 'C:', 'D:' till 'Z:'. If you click at one of this gadgets the currend
- contens of this disk is shown in the big box.
-
- Devices
-
- If you click at this gadget you can switch to the next devices if more
- than 8 devices are installed.
-
- Attention: It is possible, that this function won't work proberly.
- Sometimes the new text is replaced, but the border will remain
- ghosted. One way to fix this problem is to iconify ( right Amiga + I)
- the window and open it again by a doubleclick.
-
- Drawer:
-
- The currend path is shown in the string-gadget 'Drawer:'. Of course
- you can click and change the contens. If you misspell the new path,
- you will get an requester and the old path is shown again. Right to
- this gadget you see a litle arrow (<). This means parent dir.
-
- In the big box you will see the files and dirs of the current
- directory on both sides of the system. If you click once to an file
- or dir, this will change the color. Now this file or dir is selected.
- If you click this file or dir again, it will be deselected and show
- the normal color again. But if you doubleclick an dir, it will
- become the new current directory. With the prop-gadget you can scroll
- the list up and down.
-
- Amiga to XT/AT and XT/AT to AMIGA
-
- These are the most interesting gadgets in the window. If you click
- one of these gadgets, all files and dirs, which are selected, will be
- copied to the other side. You must secify the destination by typeing
- the path to the 'Drawer:' gadget or by a doubleclick to the directory.
- If you want to terminate the copy, please hit the ESCAPE key. The
- program will terminate after the current file. If the destination
- disk won't be able to store all files, you will be asked for an new
- formatted disk. On this new disk the last path will be created, before
- the file is transfered again.
-
- In this new version the protection flags and the date and time is also
- be copied to the other side of the system. The flags will be
- tranfered as long as they are supported on both computers.
-
- ATTENTION:
- A selected directory will be transfered with all subdirs and
- all files.
-
- In this PD version there is a limitation in the filesize. Only files
- till 6K will be copied. A real version is available from :

-
-
- NewName
- ~~~~~~~
-
- You are able to change the name of the file while transfer it to the
- other side. This function is activated by using the !! right !!
- mouse button at the gadgets "Amiga to XT/AT" or "XT/AT to Amiga". For
- each file you will be asked by a stringrequester for the new name. If
- you leave the requester by the "ENTER-key" or the "OK" gadget, the
- file will be copied under this name. But if you leave the requester
- by the "CANCEL" gadget or the "Window-Close-Gadget", this file wont be
- copied.
-
- ATTENTION: Selected drawers will be copied normaly.
-
- DELETE / RmDir
-
- If you choose this gadget all selected files and dirs will be deleted.
- If you want to terminate this action, hit the ESCAPE key.
-
- ATTENTION:
- Even this function will work with all subdirs of an selected dir. So
- be careful, because this is normaly not surpported by an PC.
-
- SELECT ALL
-
- If you hit this gadget, all files an dirs will be selected.
-
- DESELECT ALL
-
- All files and dirs will be deselected.
-
- MkDir
-
- Create an new directory.
-
- 1.2 How to use from CLI
-
- ATCopy is also useable from the CLI, if all points of workbench start
- are mentioned. This will mean the PC is already booted and no other
- PC-program is running. If you type the command 'ATCopy ?', you will
- get this message :
-
- File(s)/...,TO/K,OPT/K,A2PC/S,PC2A/S,ALL/S:
-
- If you type a second question-mark, you will see an additional help :
-
- File(s)/... means some filenames or wildcards
- TO directory
- OPT option ( B,CR or NC )
- A2PC Amiga to XT/AT
- PC2A XT/AT to Amiga
- ALL all files and dirs
-
- File(s)/... will mean, that you are allowed to type more than one
- filename. Even wildcards are allowed.
-
- Please notice the '/K' behind TO and OPT. These tokens are keywords
- and you must type the keyword to specify the function.
-
- The options are exactly the same as in 'AREAD' and 'AWRITE'. So 'B'
- means binary, 'CR' means no convertion of CRLF (CarriageReturn/Line-
- Feed) to LF (LineFeed) and 'NC' means NoConversion of national chars.
-
- The two switches 'A2PC' (Amiga to PC) and 'PC2A' (PC to Amiga) are
- used to select the copy-direction.
-
- The switch 'ALL' means to copy all files and dirs. Of course in this
- case source and dest must be directories.
-
- Attention: If the dest disk is full, the program will terminate
- instead of ask the user to insert the next disk. This will work only
- from the workbench!
-
- Now let's look at some examples :
-
- ATCopy DF0: DF1: TO C: OPT B A2PC ALL
-
- This command will copy all files and dirs from the disks in DF0: and
- DF1: to the harddisk C:. Even if you specify the 'OPT B' option you
- can't restore all files to the Amiga. (See Chapter II.1 filenames).
-
- ATCopy PC2A a:\*.c TO DF0:
-
- All files with the extension '.c' from the PC disk A: will be copied
- to the disk in DF0:. Normaly these files will contain text, and so no
- option is specified. The program ATCopy will work in the same manner
- as 'AREAD' and 'AWRITE', and use the full convert option if no other
- option is specified.
-
- ATCopy TO A: OPT NC *.h
-
- Even this is an valid command. If you won't specify and direction the
- program will use a standard. You are able to change this standard in
- the file 'S:ATCopy.Config' (see Chapter III). The default direction
- is A2PC. So this command will copy all '*.h' files from the currend
- Amiga directory to the PC drive A:.
-
- If you type only 'ATCopy' without any parameter you will get the
- workbench look. Please see this chapter how to use the program.
-
- Chapter III
-
- More informations
- The Config-File
-
- Without the file 'ATCopy.Config', in the Amiga S:-drawer, this program
- won't work. This is a normal textfile and you are able to change some
- defaults of ATCopy. Please be sure to backup the file, before you
- change it.
-
- You can use any ASCII-Editor to change 'ATCopy.Config'. But you must
- notice not to change the lenght of the rows. On this disk you will
- find a file called 'Muster.Config'. This file shows you the maximal
- lenght of each row. Espacialy the three rows containing the a's must
- have this lenght! Perhaps they must be filled with spaces.
-
- The most importend rows are the rows behind the label 'OPTIONS:'.
- These rows must contain exactly one character per row!
-
- The first row after 'OPTIONS:' should contain an 1 or an 0. A 1 will
- set the default direction to Amiga --> XT/AT and any other value will
- switch to XT/AT --> Amiga. This value is only valid from the CLI.
-
- The second row should contain an B, C, N or an space. This value will
- set the default option. A 'B' means binary, 'C' means 'CR', 'N'
- means 'NC' and an space will mean no option.
-
- The third row should contain an 1 or an 0 either. If this
- value is equal to 1, ATCopy will switch to the US-keyboard first
- before simulating the PC-keyboard and type 'ATCOPY.EXE'. This is done
- by CTRL-ALT-F1 and CTRL-ALT-F2. It is recommend, that you use this
- feature if you have loaded a keyboard-driver. If you don't want to
- switch to the US-kkeyboard, set this value to 0.
-
- Normaly this value should be '1'.
-
- The fourth row should contain the PC-filename. Exactly this file will
- be called from the Amiga-program.
-
- The fifth row should contain a '0' (null) or an '1'. If a '1' is
- found, the program starts in the iconify mode.
-
- The value in the sixed row determine, if the screen should be opened
- in interlaced mode or not. A '0' will open it non-interlaced and a
- '1' in interlaced mode.
-
- The last value determine, if the files will be displayed as soon as
- they are read in the directory, or if they are delayed until the hole
- dir is scaned. A '0' will set the delayed mode while a '1' will set
- the opposide mode.
-
- AREXX-Port
-
- The port name is "ATCOPY". All commands which are send to this
- address, will be checked by this program. In this version the
- following commands are surported:
-
- CopyToAmiga pc_file [ amiga_file ]
- CopyToPC amiga_file [ pc_file ]
-
- ChangeAmigaDir amiga_dir
- ChangePCDir pc_dir
-
- GetAmigaDir
- GetPCDir
-
- MakeAmigaDir amiga_dir
- MakePCDir pc_dir
-
- DeleteAmigaFile amiga_file
- DeletePCFile pc_file
-
- DeleteAmigaDir amiga_dir
- DeletePCDir pc_dir
-
- SetOption option
-
- The option selected by "SetOption" will stay until a new option is
- selected. Even the gadgets will change by this arexx command.
-
- The copy commands will differ from the normal CLI-Syntax. So you are
- not allowed to use wildcards. The second file or directory is the
- destination. If you ommit this value the currend drawer and the old
- filename are used.
-
- ChangexxDir, GetxxDir and MakexxDir will change or create the
- directory.
-
- DeletexxFile will delete this file and DeletexxDir the directory and
- all subdirs.
