- FileMinder Installation
-
- To get full use of FileMinder you will have to install it in its
- own directory on your hard disk. You can execute it from the distribution
- disk, but for all features to work properly with good response it needs
- to be installed.
-
- First create a home directory anywhere on your hard disk and with
- any name. Then copy all the fileminder files to this directory. The
- FileMinder executable and its icon can be located elsewhere if you like,
- but the other files need to be together in their own directory. The home
- directory is where FileMinder looks for its online help files and the print
- spooler, and saves its history and configuration files.
-
- Next use the workbench Info menu item to edit the FileMinder icon
- tooltypes array. Change the HOME= item to contain the full path to the
- directory where you copyed the files. You may also edit the PATH= item
- to point to the device or directory that you want FileMinder to log when
- it starts.
-
- You are now ready to run FileMinder by double clicking its icon.
- When it first starts it will take a few seconds to log the directory tree
- specified in the PATH= item, or the directory from which it was started
- if there is no PATH=. You should then use the Configuration menu/Editor
- Path item to set the path to your file editor. The editor must be able to
- open its own window or screen to work with FileMinder. When this is done
- use the Configuration menu/SAVE item to save the new configuration.
-
- If you plan to use the Edit, Execute, NewCLI, or print spooler
- functions, you must also have the AmigaDOS RUN and CD commands installed
- in your C: directory (this is normally the case). To use the NewCLI
- function you will also need either the NewCLI or NewShell command in
- your C: directory.
-
- You can optionally install the topazplus font in your FONTS: directory.
- This is not necessary, but it gives better display in the Tree window.
- To install this font, create a directory under FONTS: called topazplus.
- Then copy the topaz.font file from the fonts directory on the distribution
- disk to your FONTS: directory. Finally copy the file fonts/topazplus/8 from
- the distribution disk to your FONTS:topazplus directory.
