At the end of the summer Armistice Napoleon decided to strike first at Blucher and the Allied
Army of Silesia. Wisely Blucher fell back towards Breslau in the face of this advance. On the
22nd Napoleon received word that the Allied Army of Bohemia was advancing on Dresden. He left
3 infantry corps and 1 cavalry corps under your command to contain Blucher and rushed back to
Dresden.
Blucher had Yorck's Prussian corps and the Russian corps of St. Priest, Langeron and Sacken
under his command. you had continued to pursue him but today, the main forces collided between
Christianhohe and Hermannsdorf. It seems that Blutcher has learned of Napoleon's departure and
that he has resolved to take the offensive. The battle is so a typical meeting engagement and
you must destroy enemy forces or at least hold the ground.
You must hold Nieder Crayn to maintain your foothold on the plateau and to ensure communications
between your two wings. With a firm foothold here Christianhohe and the surrounding heights need
to be seized to check the Prussian advance. On the other side of the river there is the opportunity
to crush the Allied left around Hennersdorf and Hermannsdorf. Capturing Schlaupe will handicap
communications between the two Allied wings.
