  8. Player one you are Marshal Murat and three corps (plus 2 cavalery corps) of the french army are 
  9. under your command.

  11. Following the French defeat at Dennewitz (September 6) both sides considered their next move and 
  12. there was little activity until the beginning of October. Napoleon pulled back behind the Elbe 
  13. but refused to abandon Saxony and his bases at Dresden and Leipzig. By maintaining the central 
  14. position he still hoped to crush one of the Allied armies before the others could come to its 
  15. aid. The Allies needed to concentrate their armies but these were separated by the Elbe, the 
  16. Army of Bohemia being on the left bank, the Armies of Silesia (Blucher) and the North (Bernadotte) 
  17. on the right. On October 3 the Army of Silesia crossed the Elbe at Wartenberg despite a fierce 
  18. defense by Bertand. The following day the Army of the North also crossed. Meanwhile, the Army of 
  19. Bohemia advanced towards Leipzig.

  21. Napoleon struck out against Blucher and Bernadotte who fell back, refusing battle. On October 8 
  22. Bavaria changed sides, an action which made French communications with France extremely tenuous. 
  23. Surely now Napoleon would abandon Germany and fall back to the Rhine? Instead he resolved to strike 
  24. the Allied Army of Bohemia. He believed he still had time to defeat this army before Blucher and 
  25. Bernadotte could intervene.

  27. To achieve this your forces at Leipzig need to delay the Army of Bohemia before Leipzig to allow 
  28. Napoleon time to concentrate against it. This morning several enemy corps are in sight and it is
  29. clear that a battle will occur. Your objective is to hold without suffering unduly heavy casualties. 
  30. Liebertwolkwitz and Wachau are the key to the French line, if they fall then the Allies might be able 
  31. to roll up the entire French position.
