Leipzig (first day)
October-16 1813
#normal
Player one you are Tzar Alexander, Emperor of Russia, and the combined allied army
is under your command.
After Liebertwolkwitz it had become clear to both sides that the decisive battle (or
battles) of the campaign would be fought in the vicinity of Leipzig. All available
forces moved towards the city. By holding Leipzig Napoleon was still between the
Allied armies and so had one last opportunity to crush one of them before the others
could intervene. His situation is however becoming extremely perilous. The gap between
Schwarzenberg (Army of Bohemia) in the south and Blucher (Army of Silesia) to the north
had narrowed significantly. Bernadotte is slowly moving to support Blucher. To the east
Bennigsen with a new Russian army is approaching. Another recent good new is that Bavaria
has defected to your cause on October 8, threatening French supply lines. At Leipzig
itself the French has only a single line of communication back to the Rhine, this run
west from the city across a narrow causeway and through the village of Lindenau. If you
could take Lindenau the entire Grande Armee would be trapped.
You have the opportunity of crushing the French army totally and so ending the campaign.
To achieve this they need to drive on Leipzig. If one army is held up the others must drive
forward. At the very least they need to make the French position at Leipzig untenable by
taking the surrounding villages (such as Lindenau, Wauchau, Moeckern and Liebertwolkwitz).
Important reinforcement from the North are expected during the day.
