  12. Simply copy ChangeIcon.exe wherever you want. For the first exΘcution,
  13. the About box appears, uncheck 'Insert in folders context menu' if you
  14. don't want Change Icon be in this context menu.

  17. Usage :

  20. Change Icon uses a fonction that came with Internet explorer 4 to
  21. allow customize the appearance of folders in the interface.
  22. With Change Icon, it is easy to modify each folder icon individually.
  23. you can also add a tip text that will appear when cursor moves over the
  24. folder.

  26. Launch ChangeIcon.exe directly or select 'Change icon' in a folder
  27. context menu. See the rest by yourself.
  28. I want to tell you though that it supports drag&drop. You can drop a
  29. file containing icons directly over the window. You can also drop a
  30. folder to customize its icon.

  34. Known problems :

  37. For some special Windows folders (like Offline Web Pages, History,
  38. etc...), icons names are not shown correctly. However, these folders
  39. cannot be modified by Change Icon.

  41. If you use Microangelo to modify the default folder icon, the original
  42. icon still appears in Change Icon, i must ask to Bill G. why !

  44. IMPORTANT : under Windows 95 and Windows NT 4, you must have I.E.4 with
  45. shell integration installed (Active Desktop) to see customized icons.
  46. Btw, it is not necessary to use Active Desktop after.

  49. Uninstall Change Icon :

  52. No automatic uninstall at this time.
  53. Delete the file ChangeIcon.exe manually.
  54. If you want to remove settings, they are saved in the registry here :
  55. HKCU\Software\PMDevigneSoft\ChangeIcon.
  56. Uncheck 'Insert in folders context menu' to remove context menu
  57. (HKCR\Directory\shell\ChangeIcon).

  63. This application is "e-mailware". That is if you like this program or you
  64. want to comment it or to tell me how to enhance it, please send me an
  65. e-mail (see the About dialog box). you can freely copy and distribute
  66. Change Icon if you don't modify it.

  75.         You can see icons inside a file directly in the browse window.
  76.         It's a cool thing, isn't it ?
  77.         An history for last used file has been added. The lastest file used
  78.         goes in first place.
  79.         A Rebuild button has been created. When icons are mixed up, click
  80.         on it, and all is back to normal.
  81.         Drag & drop has been imroved : you can drop a folder or a file
  82.         anywhere in the window.
  83.         Bugs correction:
  84.         Sometimes, desktop.ini was not deleted when you click OK instead of
  85.         Apply button.
  86.         Some files could hang Change Icon because they contain empty icons
  87.         (shdocvw.dll by example). I had to change the way icons are extracted
  88.         for those files.
  89.         When you used (very) intensively Change Icon without closing its
  90.         window, icons were not still correctly displayed.
  91.         Change Icon understand environment variables.
