  26. What is disktective?
  27.  
  28. Disktective is a freeware report generator on the real size and structure of a directory or disk.
  29. Normally in a file-manager type of program, the 'size' of a directory seems to be the total size of the files in it.
  30. This is not true. The files who reside in the subdirectories of our directory are not accounted for. They can be many megabytes.
  31. E.g. if you want to back up a complete directory-structure, you want to know how large it really is, and if it is too large: remove some parts knowing the exact sizes.
  32. Disktective can make a complete report with an expandable tree view on the total distribution of space of a directory or a disk.
  33. Distribution information can also be graphically shown in the form of pie charts.

  38. The program runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  39. It is not tested on NT 3.5, but should run on it also.

  42. Installing Disktective.

  44. Simply copy the files into a directory of your choice on your hard-disk.
  45. However, it does not matter whether the disk is write-protected or not, so you can also run it from a CD-rom or a floppy.

  51. Click the start-button on your screen with your right mouse-button and select 'open'. Then double-click the 'programs' group.
  52. After that, double click the program group you want to install Disktective into. In that program group, RIGHT click an empty space inside the group with your mouse and select 'new' - 'shortcut'. Click the 'browse' button in 'Create Shortcut'. Browse to the directory where disktective resides on your disk. Then press the 'open' button and finish the process.

  62. Disktective is a freeware program, can be used without any limitations and can be distributed freely. However no-one other than the programmer of this product can claim commercial/legal
  63. ownership. Only the author of this program is allowed to change or adapt it.
  64. If you want to sell this program it must be clearly sold as part of a freeware or shareware
  65. collection. For other arrangements you can contact the programmer.
