+-------------------------------------------------------------------+
This game is a state-of-the-art Super VGA Fruit Machine Simulator
which equals itself with the modern fruit machines around in the
1990's in the UK.
Who is The Shareware Cop (TM) ?
The Shareware Cop (TM) is a policeman who pops up every now and
then to say 'Hi!' and also to inform you that something you may
have tried to do is illegal (!) ... until you register the game !
OK, so you may start to get irritated by him ... this is when you
should register ... look on the bright side ...
... AT LEAST HE DOESN'T ARREST YOU !
OPENING SCREEN:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EVALUATE : Press this to play a new game or play a previously
retired game, selectable by pressing UN-RETIRE.
UN-RETIRE : To play a previously retired game, you must first select
it. Press this button, then, if any retired games exist,
you are able to select which one you require by pressing
the arrow buttons (^v) and then either √ or X to accept
or cancel.
LOAD .RDF : Press this to load in a different reel icon set.
Use of this function is the same as UN-RETIRE.
REGISTER : Press this to register the game and receive the full
blown game. Press √ to print form, or X to cancel.
EVALUATIONS: This is a counter informing you of the amount of current
REMAINING evaluations left. It decreases by 1 each time you press
the Evaluate button. You have five evaluations (of 10
spins/credits each) before the game automatically quits.
THIS WILL BE REMOVED ON THE REGISTERED VERSION.
GAME SCREEN:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
See 'GAME SCREEN BUTTONS' below for the individual functions of each
button.
Once you enter the game screen from the opening screen, you will
get ten pounds to play with (your CREDIT). It is one pound a spin.
If a button is flashing, you have the option to press it. For example,
once you start to play, the Spin button will be flashing, press this
to spin the reels. This will decrement your CREDIT by one pound. The
Hold buttons may also be flashing, press these (if you wish!) before
pressing the spin button to hold any of the three reels in place.
After you have spun the reels, the fruit machine MAY decide to give
you a few free nudges, the amount of nudges available will flash
(1..4) and you MUST use these nudges up by pressing any of the six
nudge up/down buttons (which will be flashing). You can only spin the
reels again once these nudges have been used up.
On certain places on the 3 reels, there will be a 'TBM' code over-
laying certain graphics. This is an 'extra'. If you get three TBM's
across the win-line (the middle row) you are then able to play The
Bogeyman board game. You will note as you start to play the board
game that the START square at the bottom right of the screen will
have a yellow rectangle around it ... " YOU ARE HERE ! ".
To move round the board (in a clockwise direction), press the dice.
This will move you a number of squares (1..6). If this is a Money
square (i.e. +0.10) or a Nudge square (i.e. +2 Nudges) or a Feature
(i.e. The Burger Bar/Ten Pin Bowling/On The Rampage/Jackpot) you may
collect any of these options by pressing the relevant square which
will appear in the dialog box (The box with the STOP/TICK/CROSS
buttons), 'Take Cash' / 'Take Nudges' / 'Take Feature'.
If you 'Take Cash', the total CASH accumulated from the Cash squares
you have landed upon will be added to your BANK and from there, you
will leave the board game and resume normal play (Spin the Reels!).
If you 'Take Nudges' the reels will shuffle and from there you have
the amount of NUDGES the have accumulated as you have wandered around
the board game... Nudge the best win you can. From there, you are
returned to normal play (Spin the Reels!).
If you 'Take Feature', you can play the feature you are currently on.
┌──────────────────┐
│NOTES ON CURRENCY │
└──────────────────┘
When The Bogeyman is started, it will try to find your country code
from DOS. If it can, it will adjust the currency accordingly. This
may work incorrectly if your system is not set for the correct country
in the first place (See MS-DOS manual ... COUNTRY.SYS) !
FEATURE: TENPIN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here, you go bowling. It will randomly flash through several setups
of bowling pins with a few missing each time. You must press the STOP
button when there is quite a few left standing. You will receive five
pounds for every pin left standing. (Maximum pay: 50 pounds). There
is a repeat chance after this, press STOP again to see if you can
have another go ... after a Non-Repeat, it will return you to normal
play (Spin the Reels!).
FEATURE: BURGER BAR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here, the machine will offer you an amount of money for your burger!
Each offer maybe different with up to three offers on the table.
Press TICK to accept the offer or CROSS to refuse. If you turn down
it's last offer, it will force you to sell at another price, usually
a LOW one !!! There is a repeat chance after this, press STOP again
to see if you can have another go ... after a Non-Repeat, it will
return you to normal play (Spin the Reels!).
FEATURE: ON THE RAMPAGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This feature will randomly flash up on screen various amounts of
money. Press STOP to collect the money on-screen at that time. There
is a repeat chance after this, press STOP again to see if you can
have another go ... after a Non-Repeat, it will return you to normal
play (Spin the Reels!).
FEATURE: JACKPOT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This feature, if collected will give you 50 pounds. There is a
repeat function after it !!!
OTHER SQUARES: THE BOGEYMAN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you land on this square, you must press STOP to find out your fate!
OTHER SQUARES: MINE FIELD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Play this game like the popular 'WIN MINE' game. There are 16 places
in the field (4x4 grid) and 4 mines lurk underneath. Press each button
and if there is a mine under it, you lose and the run of the board
game is over, ... it will return you to normal play. If there is not a
mine under the button you pressed, a number will appear. This will
inform you that 'x' amount of mines are situated around this button.
Use your skill and judgement to clear the mine field. If you know that
there is a mine under a certain button ... DO NOT PRESS IT !!! Once
all the good areas are clear the machine will show you the mines which
are left and credit your CASH/NUDGE accounts with a few points. Sort
of a 'Well done Son' pat on the back. From here, you may continue.
OTHER SQUARES: <<TURBO>>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This will rush you round the board and eventually stop you on a
certain square ... from here you carry on !!!
OTHER SQUARES: GO TO START
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This will place you back at the start and remove any nudges/cash
you have gathered on the way. From here, you may restart The Bogeyman
board game by rolling the dice.
OTHER SQUARES: WIPEOUT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This square 'real bad man'!!! DO NOT LAND ON IT !!! If you do,
you will lose your CASH/NUDGES it will kick you off the board
game and normal play will resume.
HINTS:
~~~~~~
Here's one of the hidden features ... just to give you a taste for
hunting! If some random nudges appear (1..4) then, if you cannot
nudge a win, try nudging two of the same reel icons (or TBM's) onto
the win line. If the HOLD buttons flash *DO NOT HOLD ANY !*, press
spin and from two on the same win line there will appear three !!!

THANK-YOU !
~~~~~~~~~~~
Many thanks to all of you who registered Marble Mayhem ... This game
is dedicated to you! Without your support, this game would not exist!
PS. The little girl on the opening screen of RDK is Hannah Frances
Wood, my daughter who benefited from 50% of your registrations. The
other 50% was put to post/disk costs and to my 'Buy Woody a new PC'
fund.
Thanks also to all my ßeta testers, without their help, this game
would probably have more bugs in it than an Indiana Jones movie!
The strawberry on the opening screen was not my design, I just
thought I would like to mention this !
Thanks to Jordan Hargrave for creating a great SVGA 256 BGI driver.
COPIES:
~~~~~~~
You may distribute this shareware to as many other persons as you
wish, but a copy fee of no more than £2.50 or USD $5.00 may be
charged. Please keep the RDK.* included with the main Fruit Machine
Simulator files when copying them for other people.
PROBLEMS?
~~~~~~~~~
If you have problems, please MAIL me at the Batcave BBS !
WINDOWS:
~~~~~~~~
Arrrggghhh! Don't Swear! No, seriously folks, running The Bogeyman/
RDK/ Gallery under Windows slows the programs down CONSIDERABLY so
that playing the game isn't much fun anymore !!!
CLOSE WINDOWS BEFORE RUNNING THE BOGEYMAN !!!
THE MOUSE!
~~~~~~~~~~
People who try to program under DOS in SVGA mode (shareware authors
for example) and try to use a mouse may find that the graphical
mouse cursor will not appear. This is a problem of certain mouse
drivers. Although Logitech mouse drivers do have an additional
overlay for this. (Well done Logitech!). I have had to program my
own SVGA mouse overlay to couteract this problem as not all users
of The Bogeyman have (great) Logitech mouse drivers!!!
If you find any problems or have any comments about this software,
please inform me at the address in the Order Form file. Or give me
a tinkle, Stephen Wood, on The Batcave BBS (>"<) ... (see above).
