  21. 1.  SETUP Command Line Options

  24. There are a couple of command line options that are available with the
  25. Windows version of EZ-SCSI (SETUP.EXE):
  26.  
  27. Option:        noctl3d
  28. Example:       a:\setup noctl3d
  29. Description:   EZ-SCSI for Windows uses a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) called
  30.                CTL3D.DLL that gives its dialog boxes the 3-D gray-box look.
  31.                This command line options disables the loading of this DLL.
  32.                Note that EZ-SCSI defaults to not loading this DLL if you are
  33.                using Central Point's Desktop (e.g. PC Tools for Windows 1.0).

  35. Option:        noscan
  36. Example:       a:\setup noscan
  37. Description:   By default, EZ-SCSI will automatically scan your hardware for
  38.                SCSI host adapters and SCSI devices.  In the unlikely event
  39.                that this fails, we've provided an override switch that
  40.                instructs EZ-SCSI to NOT scan for hardware.  It will simply
  41.                decompress the files on to your hard disk.  You would then
  42.                need to manually edit your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  46. 2.  SMARTDRV 5.0 and XA formatted CDs
  47. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

  49. SMARTDRV 5.0 (in MS-DOS 6.2, Windows for Workgroups 3.11) now includes
  50. caching for CD-ROM drives.  There is a problem with SMARTDRV in its support
  51. for XA formatted Compact Discs.  If you experience "Not Ready" errors,
  52. using SMARTDRV 5.0, add /E:2048 to your SMARTDRV command line.  For example:

  58. 3.  Troubleshooting/Limitations

  61. o  EZ-SCSI for Windows (SETUP.EXE) will not load it's 3-D look DLL (CTL3D.DLL)
  62.    if you are using Central Point PC Tools for Windows Desktop.  The
  63.    installation will still proceed without any loss of functionality.

  65. o  You should install Adaptec EZ-SCSI to a drive letter that exists at boot
  66.    time.  This would NOT include RAM drives, network drives, removable
  67.    drives, etc.

  71. 4.  EZ-SCSI Installation

  74.    SCSI devices such as hard disk drive or CD-ROM drive installed in
  75.    or connected to Dock II, can be operational immediately upon warm/hot
  76.    docking/undocking, by using the SCSI support software which comes with
  77.    the Dock II.
  78.  
  79.    To enjoy all the benefits of this capability, you first need to turn on and
  80.    connect all the SCSI devices, which you want to use, to the Dock II. Then
  81.    install and setup the SCSI software appropriately with those devices. You
  82.    may dock and undock as needed, once you setup the SCSI support software
  83.    with all of them.

  85.    To setup SCSI support software
  86.  
  87.    1. Turn off the ThinkPad.
  88.    2. Dock the ThinkPad to the Dock II.
  89.    3. Attach all the SCSI devices to the Dock II correctly. For SCSI device
  90.       settings and installation, please refer to "Chapter 5. Using the SCSI
  91.       Controller" in the Dock II User's Guide.
  92.    4. Turn on the ThinkPad.
  93.    5. Run EZ-SCSI program for SCSI software installation. Please refer to
  94.       "Appendix B. Using the SCSI Support Software" in the Dock II User's
  95.       Guide for EZ-SCSI installation.
  96.    6. Reboot the system to activate the new setting.
  97.  
  98.    Now the drive letters (E:, F:, etc.) for your SCSI devices are always
  99.    reserved regardless of docking state. Those drive letters are "not ready"
  100.    when the ThinkPad is stand-alone. When you warm or hot dock the ThinkPad
  101.    to the Dock II, the drives become ready to use.
  102.  
  103.    Every time you added any 'NEW' SCSI device, you have to run EZ-SCSI setup
  104.    program again so that the SCSI software recognize the device.
  105.  
  106.    Note 1) SCSI hard disk drives are not treated as 'fixed' disk drive but
  107.            removable media like a diskette or a Magneto-Optical disk
  108.            to support warm/hot dock.
  109.            You may get the following message when you are trying
  110.            to access to the disk while undocked:
  111.             "Insert a media to drive D:"
  112.            The icons for those drives may change to one for a removable media
  113.            in DOS SHELL or File Manager in Windows.
  114.         2) SCSI hot and warm docking/undocking feature is realized with
  115.            ASPI8IBM.SYS device driver. This driver is upward compatible with
  116.            Adaptec ASPI8DOS.SYS driver.

  120. 5.  SCSI ID Setting

  123.    SCSI ID 0 should not be used for any hard disk if you take advantage
  124.    of warm and hot dock/undock features. SCSI ID 0 is reserved for the
  125.    boot (startup) device and if the system started up with the SCSI drive,
  126.    the system must be turned off prior to undock.

  130. 6.  Hard Disk Partitions

  133.    If you made two or more partitions in the SCSI hard disk drives, you need
  134.    to add /R option in ASPIDISK.SYS line in CONFIG.SYS. (/D is automatically
  135.    set by EZ-SCSI installation program.)

  137.        DEVICE=C:\SCSI\ASPIDISK.SYS /D /R<reserve count>
  138.           where <reserve count> is the maximum number of partitions in
  139.           each hard disk drive.
  140.  
  141.    For example, if you have two SCSI disks and each disks are partitioned
  142.    into four and three partitions each, then
  143.    your CONFIG.SYS will be as follows:

  145.        DEVICE=C:\SCSI\ASPIDISK.SYS /D /R4
  146.  
  147.    With this option, four logical drive will be reserved for each hard disk
  148.    drive. If the drive letters for SCSI drives starts from D:, the assignment
  149.    will be as follows:
  150.        D:, E:, F:, G: for first disk drive (four partitions)
  151.        H:, I:, J:, K: for second disk drive (three partitions)
  152.    In this case, the last K: drive will not be used actually since the
  153.    second drive has only three partitions.

  157. 7.  OS/2 Device Driver (AHA152X.ADD)

  160.    OS/2 SCSI device driver for the Dock II SCSI controller (AHA152X.ADD)
  161.    in the OS/2 version 2.1 or version 2.11 might cause some problem with
  162.    CD-ROM and MO drives.
  163.    The newer version of the device driver is available in the Dock II
  164.    Option Diskette. Please update your system with the following procedures.

  166.    1. Open an OS/2 or DOS command prompt.
  167.    2. Change directory to x:\OS2, where x: is the drive letter which
  168.       OS/2 is installed.
  169.    3. Insert the Dock II Option Diskette into the diskette drive.
  170.    4. Type 'COPY A:\AHA152X.ADD' and press Enter.
  171.    5. Shutdown OS/2 and restart the system.
