  1. NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh 2.0.0 ALPHA8

  3. The Alpha 8 version of NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh 2.0 was 
  4. released Wednesday, September 16, 1994.   
  5.  
  6. This is an ALPHA release, therefore there are many new features or 
  7. bugs that you will need to be aware of to make your use of the new 
  8. release a pleasant experience.  You may encounter problems that 
  9. will cause your machine to crash. You may not find certain aspects 
  10. of the program aesthetically pleasing,  and the program will trash 
  11. your current preferences.

  15. Please make a copy of your 1.0.3 preferences file (Mosaic 
  16. Preferences) before using the alpha version.

  62. DECOMPRESSING THE ARCHIVE

  64. To UnStuff & UnBinHex NCSA Mosaic we recommend that you use
  65. StuffIt Expander.  The expander is available at ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu  
  66. and other ftp sites.  To unbinhex StuffIt Expander you will also  
  67. need binhex.macbinary (which can be found in /Mac/Utilities at 
  68. ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu).

  102.       When the mouse passes over the arrow portion of an unloaded
  103.     image the hyperlink URL appears in the status box.
  104.     When the mouse passes over the image portion of an unloaded
  105.       image the ALT text (if any is defined) appears in the status box.
  106.     If there is no ALT, the URL for the image is displayed.  If the
  107.     image is loaded, the ALT text is displayed, or if the image is
  108.     an ismap, that will be indicated.

  117. Save As...HTML is still broken. This option will be removed.
  118. Printing bugs still exist (only one page will print, grayscale option 
  119.     causes printout to be 1/2 gray)
  120. Still not handling out-of-memory properly
  121. Speech recognition has been turned off until Apple releases 1.2.1 of 
  122.     the speech recognition extension.

  124. Sometimes, images at start of a following line is select when it
  125.     shouldn't be
  126. Captions on tables is not implemented
  127. On a write protected file server, cannot complete QUIT  "because you    
  128.     don't have the necessary access privileges"

  167. Use This URL for Home: Allows you to select the current document to 
  168.    be used as the new home page.  This is automatically saved in the 
  169.    preferences file.
  170. Use Header Mode: This feature allows you to get additional 
  171.    information about a link without causing you to connect to that link.   
  172. The information, which includes: file type, modification date, file size, 
  173.    and server information, appears in a separate window.
  174. There are two ways to access it:  1) Through the Options Menu, turn 
  175. Use Header Mode on, then click on a link to get the information.  2)  
  176. When Use Header Mode is off, command-click on a link to access the 
  177.    same information.

  179. Preferences 
  180. -------------------------------------------------------------
  181. The preferences window has been completely rewritten to make it 
  182.    easier to modify.   
  183. The preferences dialog has been divided into a series of functional 
  184.    categories.  These include:  Miscellaneous, Links, Directories, Gates.  
  185.    (more to be added later)
  186. Background Color:   now user modifiable
  187. Global History List:  Mosaic now maintains a history of links between 
  188.    sessions.  The user can determine the number of entries that may be 
  189.    included in the Global History, or they may choose to remove files 
  190.    from the Global History that are older than 'n' days.  
  191. Link Colors:  Visited link colors fade to the unvisited link colors as 
  192.    they mature. This may be turned on or off as desired.
  193. Set Hotlist Directory:  Set this to a folder that contains your hotlists 
  194.    and all hotlists will be readily available in the new hotlist window.  
  195. No need to load each one individually!
  196. FIREWALL:  You can set Mosaic to use CERN Proxy Service or SOCKS 
  197.    service!
