  1. NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh - 1.0 Release

  3. NCSA Mosaic is COPYRIGHTED by the University of Illinois.  See
  4. copyright notice in the ftp directory and on-line.

  6. This is the 1.0 release of NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh.   Special
  7. THANKS to all of you who helped us make this tool what it is.
  8. This is not the end!  Development on NCSA Mosaic for the 
  9. Macintosh will continue.  We are beginning work on the 2.0 
  10. features tomorrow AM.

  12. For those of you behind Firewalls:  We are starting a Firewall 
  13. mailing list in hopes of trying to solve the problems associated here.
  14. To join this list, mail the developers and put FIREWALL in your
  15. subject line.

  17. To run this tool you will need the following; System 7.0 (or higher), 
  18. MacTCP (2.0.2 is preferred - 1.x has bugs that will result in memory 
  19. problems) and a network connection (Apple Remote Access can be 
  20. used through a modem for the network connection).  
  21.  
  22. NCSA Mosaic should function on all types of Macintoshes, including 
  23. the SE and the Classic.
  24.  
  25. NCSA Mosaic is available by anonymous ftp from ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu 
  26. (141.142.20.50) in directory /Mac/Mosaic as NCSAMosaicMac.10.sit.hqx
  27.  
  28. The NCSAMosaicMac.10.sit.hqx has been stuffed using Stuffit 1.5 and 
  29. BinHexed.  You can un-binhex and un-stuff the file using any utility which 
  30. handles these compression schemes.  If you don╒t have one try StuffitExpander 
  31. (it nicely handles both schemes) located in the Mac/Mosaic directory.  
  32. In order to un-binhex the expander follow the directions in Binhex.README 
  33. located in Mac/Utilities.

  35. Also look for the QuickStart Installation Guide.  It is the file QuickStart.Txt in 
  36. the Mac/Mosaic directory.

  48.     Gopher tries to guess image types by file extension now.

  50. Bugs...............
  51.     QuickTimes is still a problem for some users.  It appears to timeout
  52.                 before receiving the entire file.
  53.     Better interrupt support. 
  54.     All known interrupt hang-ups have been fixed. 
  55.     Telnet icons for Gopher are in.
  56.     CSO gopher searches work, and do not spin forever. 
  57.     Annotations can be edited/deleted again. 
  58.     Temporary files are back in System Folder.
