  22. To be a nexus - a connecting point for the Internet/Usenet community
  23. by providing reliable, economical public access to open networks using
  24. standard, non-proprietary protocols.

  29. Northwest Nexus was incorporated in Washington State in 1987 by three
  30. partners with over 50 combined years of experience in computer and network
  31. operations, network engineering, and business.  Our first services were
  32. UUCP connectivity and online access to the Usenet - a worldwide network
  33. of over 700,000 computer systems currently exchanging information in
  34. more than 1500 different forums.

  36. Starting with Honeywell Marine Systems Division in Everett (now Alliant
  37. Techsystems) as our first customer, we have steadily grown over the years.
  38. Accounts have included such organizations as Nintendo of America, McCaw
  39. Cellular, US West, GTE, Immunex Corporation, Traveling Software, and
  40. many smaller businesses, professional organizations, consultants, and
  41. individuals.  Although our primary target market is the Puget Sound area,
  42. we have customers from around the world.

  45. INTERACTIVE SERVICE
  46.  
  47. The halcyon.com domain offers online interactive Internet services, bringing
  48. a world of information as close as your keyboard.  The Internet is estimated
  49. to contain 1.5 million computers and around 13 million people, interacting
  50. on a daily basis, across the globe and across the solar system.  You will be
  51. able to directly take part in this exchange of information through your account.

  53. Interactive users are provided a UNIX(tm) environment which offers access to
  54. the amazing world of the Internet.  These shell accounts also have e-mail and
  55. news access through a variety of user-selectable interfaces.  Many popular
  56. login shells are available.  Many commercial databases have access points on
  57. the Internet.  Your halcyon account can provide a base of operations for your
  58. electronic journeys to a CompuServe account, library database searches, file
  59. archives, etc.

  64. UUCP SERVICE
  65.  
  66. We also offer a low-cost, reliable UUCP link to our network that is directly
  67. connected to an Internet T-3 backbone node.  Accounts can be configured to
  68. include E-mail/MX forwarding, full and partial Usenet newsfeeds, or both.

  70. All Northwest Nexus UUCP accounts are provided from an Internet host with
  71. a commercial-class connection to the Internet.

  74. SLIP/PPP SERVICE
  75.  
  76. Low cost, reliable dial-up Internet connections for your machine using either
  77. the SLIP or PPP protocols are also available.  Once connected, all Internet
  78. services such as telnet and ftp are available from your host directly.

  80. In addition, Usenet newsfeeds via NNTP to your host can be added to
  81. any account for a small additional charge.

  84. OUR NETWORK
  85.  
  86. Northwest Nexus uses Telebit dial-in modems.  These modems support
  87. connections over standard phone lines ranging from 19.2kb to 300 baud
  88. using V.32, V.32bis, V.42, V.42bis, PEP, V.22, V.22bis, Bell 212A and
  89. Bell 103A protocols for your convenience.

  91. We have various dial-in lines available making us a local call from all
  92. prefixes in the Seattle metropolitan area, the Eastside, Everett and parts
  93. of Snohomish county.  Private dial-in lines are also available for a flat
  94. monthly rate with a minimum 6 month commitment.

  96. Our network is monitored 7 days a week, 24 hours a day by professional
  97. staff to ensure the reliability of your connection.

  100. WHAT YOU NEED
  101.  
  102. Interactive users need only a VT100 terminal (or software emulation) and
  103. a modem.  We provide the programs on our computers that allow you full
  104. access to shell and Internet applications (FTP, telnet, gopher, etc.)
  105.  
  106. You can establish a UUCP, SLIP, or PPP link from any system capable of
  107. communicating using one of these protocols.  This include PC's, Macintoshes,
  108. Unix workstations (e.g. Sun) and many minicomputers (e.g. DEC).
  109.  
  110. You will also need a modem compatible with one of the protocols our modems
  111. support as described above.

  113. If you do not have a compatible software package or modem, we may be able
  114. to recommend or provide one to you.
