  8.           The following general notes describe the  installation  of  a  new
  9.           Suprtool  release.  The new version overwrites an existing version
  10.           of Suprtool on your HP-UX system.
  11.

  13.    Who Should Use These Instructions?
  14.  
  15.           The system  manager  should  use  the  following  instructions  to
  16.           install  Suprtool/UX.   No one can be using Suprtool/UX during the
  17.           installation, which should take only a few minutes.

  20.    Replace Any Pre-Release
  21.  
  22.           If you are currently running a pre-release  version  of  Suprtool,
  23.           you should replace it with this new official release.  Pre-release
  24.           versions expire within two years of their creation  date,  whereas
  25.           this  new  release has no expiry date.  You can easily recognize a
  26.           pre-release by its three-part version number  (e.g.,  4.2.52)  and
  27.           the words "Pre-Release" next to the version number.

  30.    Summary of Installation Steps

  32.           Installing Suprtool involves the following steps:
  33.  
  34.           1. You must log in as root.
  35.  
  36.           2. You must create the correct directory structure.
  37.  
  38.           3. You  must restore Suprtool/UX and its associated files from the
  39.              distribution tape.
  40.  
  41.           4. You can set up a PATH for Suprtool/UX or copy it to an existing
  42.              directory in your PATH.  (optional)
  43.  
  44.           5. You can install WinHelp documentation files.  (optional)
  45.  
  46.  
  47.    Step 1:  Log in as Root
  48.  
  49.           There are two ways you can log in as root:
  50.  
  51.           a. Exit from HP-UX, and log in with root as the user name.
  52.  
  53.           b. If you are already logged in, you can execute this command:
  54.  
  55.                   su -
  56.  
  57.           In  either case, you have to know and supply the user password for
  58.           root.
  59.

  61.    Step 2:  Create Robelle Directory
  62.  
  63.           Suprtool/UX is installed in /usr/robelle.   Before  restoring  the
  64.           files, you must first create /usr/robelle:

  66.                mkdir /usr/robelle
  67.  
  68.  
  69.    Step 3:  Restore Files
  70.  
  71.           Use  the  following  command to restore the Suprtool/UX files from
  72.           the distribution tape:
  73.  
  74.                tar xv /usr/robelle
  75.  
  76.           After successfully restoring  the  files,  you  can  run  the  new
  77.           version of Suprtool/UX.

  79.                /usr/robelle/bin/suprtool

  82.    Step 4:  Setup Path (optional)
  83.  
  84.           You can invoke Suprtool with the following command:

  86.                /usr/robelle/bin/suprtool

  88.           If you want to just type
  89.  
  90.                suprtool
  91.  
  92.           to  invoke  Suprtool/UX,  you  must either add /usr/robelle/bin to
  93.           your PATH or copy /usr/robelle/bin/suprtool to a directory that is
  94.           currently on your PATH.  Similarly, the man pages for Suprtool are
  95.           in  /usr/robelle/man/man1/suprtool.1.   To  make  the  man   pages
  96.           available to everyone, you can either add /usr/robelle/man to your
  97.           MANPATH or copy the man pages to a directory that is currently  on
  98.           your MANPATH.

  100.           If you adjust your PATH and MANPATH environment variables, you can
  101.           also invoke Suprlink/UX with
  102.

  106.    Step 5:  Install WinHelp Documentation Files (optional)
  107.  
  108.           All of the Suprtool documentation is now available in the  WinHelp
  109.           format  of Microsoft Windows.  You can only use these files if you
  110.           have MS Windows 3.1 or later.

  113.    Make a Temporary Directory for the Setup Program
  114.  
  115.           From  DOS  or  the  File  Manager,  create  a  directory  for  the
  116.           installation   files.    You   can  remove  this  directory  after
  117.           installing the WinHelp files.

  119.                mkdir \robtemp
  120.  
  121.  
  122.    Download the Compressed File
  123.  
  124.           In the next step, download the self-extracting Zip  file  to  your
  125.           PC.   If you are using Reflection to download the Zip file, follow
  126.           these instructions.  The file on the HP 9000 is called
  127.  
  128.               /usr/robelle/winhelp/suprhelp.exe
  129.  
  130.           From the /usr/robelle/winhelp directory, press Alt-Y to go to  the
  131.           Reflection Command Line window.  Make sure that you use the binary
  132.           transfer.

  134.               receive c:\robtemp\suprhelp.exe
  135.                       from suprhelp.exe binary

  138.    Expand the Compressed File
  139.  
  140.           You need only the following commands to extract the files  because
  141.           we   provide   the  Setup  program  and  the  Help  files  in  one
  142.           self-extracting  Zip  file.   From  the  DOS  prompt,  type  these
  143.           commands:

  145.                cd \robtemp          {go to the new Robtemp directory}
  146.                suprhelp.exe         {extract the Help files}
  147.  
  148.  
  149.    Run the Setup Program
  150.  
  151.           From  the  Program  Manager, run the Setup program by choosing Run
  152.           from the File menu.  Then enter c:\robtemp\setup  in  the  Command
  153.           Line box.  Follow the instructions in the Setup program.

  155.           Now you can access all the Suprtool documentation by selecting any
  156.           of the icons in the "Robelle Help" Program Manager group.

  159.    Remove the Robtemp Directory
  160.  
  161.           You can now remove all the files from the Robtemp directory either
  162.           from the File Manager or by using the following DOS commands:
  163.  
  164.                cd \robtemp
  165.                del *.*              {delete all the files}
  166.                cd ..
  167.                rmdir robtemp        {remove the Robtemp directory}
  168.  
  169.           You  can  also  copy  the  files  in  Robtemp  to  a  diskette and
  170.           distribute them to other Suprtool users.
