  5.    Installation of 4.0

  8.           The following instructions apply to existing  Suprtool  users  who
  9.           are  installing  a  new version.  Please use the instructions from
  10.           this change notice instead of the user manual because  the  change
  11.           notice  always  has  the latest version.  The whole process should
  12.           take about 30 minutes, assuming that no one is using  Suprtool  or
  13.           its  components.   You can perform this installation easily if you
  14.           log on as Manager.Sys.
  15.  
  16.           Follow these steps to install this update of Suprtool:
  17.  
  18.           1. Upgrade the structure of the Robelle account.
  19.  
  20.           2. Restore the new files from tape.
  21.  
  22.           3. Install the proper program files (NM or Classic).
  23.  
  24.           4. Install Speed Demon in the system SL (Classic only).
  25.  
  26.           5. Install the Suprtool2  interface  in  the  system  SL  (Classic
  27.              only).
  28.  
  29.           6. Optionally limit Suprtool's runtime priority.
  30.  
  31.           7. Install WinHelp documentation files (optional).
  32.  
  33.           8. Purge the installation files (optional).

  36.    Replace Any Pre-Release
  37.  
  38.           If  you  are  currently running a pre-release version of Suprtool,
  39.           you should replace it with this new official release.  Pre-release
  40.           versions  expire  within two years of their creation date, whereas
  41.           this new release has no expiry date.  You can easily  recognize  a
  42.           pre-release  by  its  three-part version number (e.g., 3.5.05) and
  43.           the words "Pre-Release" next to the version number.

  46.    Installation Assistance
  47.  
  48.           If you have any questions or run into any  problems,  please  call
  49.           us.   Technical  support is available on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4
  50.           p.m. Pacific time at 1-888-ROBELLE (1-888-762-3553).  You can also
  51.           receive  emergency  support  outside of these hours by calling our
  52.           regular phone number and asking the operator  to  page  a  support
  53.           person for you.

  56.    Important Note About Passwords
  57.  
  58.           None  of  the  jobs that we supply have passwords in them.  Before
  59.           streaming a job, you may have to add your  system's  passwords  to
  60.           the  first  line.  Users of MPE XL 3.0 (and higher) do not have to
  61.           do  this  because  the  operating  system  prompts   for   missing
  62.           passwords.   The  same  is  true  for  some  MPE V  users who have
  63.           security software that inserts passwords.  Most MPE V  users  have
  64.           to  edit  the  jobs.   For  example,  if  the system manager logon
  65.           password is Qwerty, you would do the following:

  84.    STREAMX Users
  85.  
  86.           Users of STREAMX, a part of SECURITY/3000 from VESOFT  Inc.,  must
  87.           set  a  Job  Control  Word  before  streaming jobs.  This prevents
  88.           STREAMX from generating an error if the Robelle account  does  not
  89.           yet exist.  For example,

  95.    Step 1:  Upgrade or Build the Robelle Account
  96.  
  97.           Even  if you already have the Robelle account, the first thing you
  98.           must do is stream the Robelle job:

  105.           This job stream sends you a message when it has  completed.   Stay
  106.           logged  on  as  Manager.Sys  and  put  a  password  on the Robelle
  107.           account.  If you are upgrading your Robelle account, use  the  old
  108.           password.

  112.           Please  note that during installation, we add OP capability to the
  113.           Robelle account.  When the Suprtool installation is complete,  you
  114.           have the option to remove OP capability.

  117.    Step 2:  Restore the Files
  118.  
  119.           Stay logged on as Manager.Sys and restore the Robelle files:

  124.           The  files  on  the tape require approximately 80,000 sectors.  If
  125.           you are upgrading Suprtool, most of these files will replace files
  126.           that  already exist, so the new version does not take up much more
  127.           space than the old version.

  129.           The Suprtool program files are located in the  Pub  group  of  the
  130.           Robelle  account.   At this point in the installation process, the
  131.           files do not have the correct names.  The next  step  assigns  the
  132.           proper names to the program files.

  135.    Step 3:  Install Suprtool into Production
  136.  
  137.           Our  installation job installs Suprtool, STExport, Suprlink, Speed
  138.           Demon, and the Suprtool2 interface.  No one can use these programs
  139.           during the installation.  Before you stream this installation job,
  140.           warn people not to use these programs for a while.

  146.           Check the installation job $stdlist.  If anyone was  either  using
  147.           Suprtool,  STExport,  Suprlink,  or  Speed Demon, or attempting to
  148.           back them up, the installation job fails.  Chase away  any  users,
  149.           ensure  that  a  backup  is  not  in  progress,  then  stream  the
  150.           installation job again.

  152.           The installation job renames your current versions of Suprtool and
  153.           its components to the PubOld group of the Robelle account.  If you
  154.           need  to  move  these  versions  back  into  production,  use  the
  155.           Previous.Suprjob job stream.

  157.           You can now access Suprtool by entering

  162.    Optional Installation Steps
  163.  
  164.           On  MPE/iX  your  installation  should  be  complete.  If you have
  165.           copied Speed Demon or the  Suprtool2  interface  to  your  own  XL
  166.           files,  you  will  have  to  copy  the  latest  versions  (use the
  167.           instructions  in  the  Speed  Demon  and  Calling  Suprtool   user
  168.           manuals).

  170.           To  use the new versions on MPE V, you need to install Speed Demon
  171.           and Suprtool2 in the system SL.  MPE/iX users must also do this if
  172.           they  are calling Speed Demon or Suprtool2 from compatibility-mode
  173.           programs.  With so few changes to Speed Demon and  Suprtool2,  you
  174.           can safely ignore them for this version of Suprtool.

  176.           If  you  have  a  Windows  PC, you can install all of the Suprtool
  177.           documentation in the popular Microsoft Windows WinHelp  format  on
  178.           your PC.

  181.    Step 4:  Speed Demon/V Installation (optional)
  182.  
  183.           To  use  the  new  features of Speed Demon/V, you must install the
  184.           latest  version  in  the  system  SL.   You  should   follow   the
  185.           installation  instructions  in the Speed Demon user manual.  These
  186.           instructions assume that you have  used  the  Install.Suprjob  job
  187.           stream  to  move Suprtool and its components into the Pub group of
  188.           the Robelle account.

  193.    Step 5:  Suprtool2 Interface Installation (Classic only)
  194.  
  195.           The Suprtool2 interface has  been  revised.   On  MPE V  you  must
  196.           re-install the interface.  If you do not have the latest Suprtool2
  197.           interface, programs that attempt to use totals from Suprtool2 will
  198.           fail.   You  can install this interface without recompiling any of
  199.           your existing programs.

  202.    System SL Installation
  203.  
  204.           To install the latest Suprtool2 interface in the  system  SL,  use
  205.           our standard installation job:

  210.    User SL or XL Files

  212.           If  you  have  a copy of the Suprtool2 interface in your own SL or
  213.           XL, you will need to update it.  For instructions  on  how  to  do
  214.           this, consult the user manual for Calling Suprtool.

  217.    Step 6:  Optionally Limiting Suprtool's Runtime Priority
  218.  
  219.           Some system managers like to restrict the amount of resources that
  220.           Suprtool consumes.  One way to do this is by running  Suprtool  in
  221.           the D queue, which lets you use HP's Linkedit program.

  227.           By  forcing  Suprtool  to always run in the lower queue (even when
  228.           Suprtool runs  on-line),  it  competes  less  with  on-line  users
  229.           because  most  users  run  in the C queue.  System managers should
  230.           restrict only the priority of Suprtool if they are  familiar  with
  231.           MPE process queues and the Tune command.

  234.    Step 7:  Install WinHelp Documentation Files (optional)
  235.  
  236.           All  of the Suprtool documentation is now available in the WinHelp
  237.           format for Microsoft Windows.  You can use these files only if you
  238.           have MS Windows 3.1 or later.

  241.    Make a Temporary Directory for the Setup Program
  242.  
  243.           From  either  DOS  or the File Manager, create a new directory for
  244.           the installation files.  You can remove this directory  after  the
  245.           WinHelp files have been installed.

  250.    Download the Compressed File

  252.           In the next step, download the self-extracting Zip file to your PC
  253.           with  Reflection.   The  file   on   the   HP   3000   is   called
  254.           Suprhelp.Whelp.Robelle.  You should be logged on as Mgr.Robelle.

  256.           Press  Alt-Y  to  go  to the Reflection Command Line window.  Make
  257.           sure that you use the binary transfer.

  263.    Expand the Compressed File
  264.  
  265.           You need only the following commands to extract the files  because
  266.           we   provide   the  Setup  program  and  the  Help  files  in  one
  267.           self-extracting Zip file.  From the DOS prompt, type the following
  268.           commands:

  270.                cd \robtemp          {go to the new Robtemp directory}
  271.                suprhelp.exe         {extract the Help files}

  274.    Run the Setup Program
  275.  
  276.           From  the  Program  Manager, run the Setup program by choosing the
  277.           Run option from the File menu, then enter c:\robtemp\setup in  the
  278.           Command Line box.  Follow the instructions in the Setup program.

  280.           You  can now access all of the Suprtool documentation by selecting
  281.           any of the icons in the "Robelle Help" Program Manager Group.

  284.    Remove the Robtemp Directory
  285.  
  286.           Delete all of the files in the Robtemp directory either  from  the
  287.           File Manager or with the following DOS commands:
  288.  
  289.                cd \robtemp
  290.                del *.*                 {delete all the files}
  291.                cd ..
  292.                rmdir robtemp           {remove the Robtemp directory}
  293.  
  294.           You  can  also  copy  the  files  in  Robtemp  to  a  diskette and
  295.           distribute them to other Suprtool users.

  298.    Step 8:  Purge Installation Files (optional)
  299.  
  300.           The easiest way to clean up after an installation is to stream the
  301.           Cleanup.Purgejob.Robelle  job.   This  job saves you disc space by
  302.           purging the installation files.  It does not purge files that  are
  303.           needed to run the software.
