  10.        If  you  need to install this upgrade in an account other than the   
  11.        Robelle account, refer to the appendix at the end of  this  change   
  12.        notice before starting any installation steps.                       
  13.                                                                             
  14.        The  following  instructions  apply to existing Suprtool users who   
  15.        are installing a  new  version.   Please  use  these  instructions   
  16.        instead of those in the user manual.  The change notice always has   
  17.        the latest revision.  The  whole  process  should  take  about  30   
  18.        minutes, assuming that no one is using Suprtool or its components.   
  19.        All of these steps are  easily  accomplished  if  you  log  on  as   
  20.        Manager.Sys.

  22.        To install this update of Suprtool, follow these steps:              
  23.                                                                             
  24.        1. Upgrade the structure of the Robelle account.                     
  25.                                                                             
  26.        2. Restore the new files from tape.                                  
  27.                                                                             
  28.        3. Install the proper program files (NM or Classic).                 
  29.                                                                             
  30.        4. Install Speed Demon in the System SL (Classic only).              
  31.                                                                             
  32.        5. Install  the  Suprtool2  interface  in  the  System SL (Classic   
  33.           only).                                                            
  34.                                                                             
  35.        6. Optionally limit Suprtool's runtime priority.                     
  36.                                                                             
  37.        7. Install WinHelp documentation files (optional).                   
  38.                                                                             
  39.        8. Install HowMessy (optional).                                      
  40.                                                                             
  41.        9. Configure Suprtool for Netbase (MPE/iX only).                     
  42.                                                                             
  43.        10.Purge installation files (optional).

  46. Installation Assistance                                                     
  47.                                                                             
  48.        If you have any questions  about  the  upgrade  or  run  into  any   
  49.        problems,  please  call  us.   Technical  support  is available on   
  50.        weekdays from 7 a.m. to  4  p.m.   Pacific  time.   You  can  also   
  51.        receive  emergency  support  outside of these hours by calling our   
  52.        regular phone number and asking the operator  to  page  a  support

  56. Replace Any Pre-Release                                                     
  57.                                                                             
  58.        If  you  are  currently running a pre-release version of Suprtool,   
  59.        you should replace it with this new official release.  Pre-release   
  60.        versions  expire  within two years of their creation date, whereas   
  61.        this new release has no expiry date.  You can tell  a  pre-release   
  62.        by  its  three-part  version  number  (e.g., 3.7.03) and the words   
  63.        "Pre-Release" next to the version number.

  66. Important Note About Passwords                                              
  67.                                                                             
  68.        None of the  jobs  we  supply  have  passwords  in  them.   Before   
  69.        streaming  a  job,  you may have to add your system's passwords to   
  70.        the first line.  Users of MPE XL 3.0 (and higher) do not  have  to   
  71.        do   this   because  the  operating  system  prompts  for  missing   
  72.        passwords.  The same  is  true  for  some  MPE V  users  who  have   
  73.        security  software  that inserts passwords.  Most MPE V users have   
  74.        to edit the jobs.   For  example,  if  the  system  manager  logon   
  75.        password is Qwerty, you would do the following:

  94. STREAMX Users                                                               
  95.                                                                             
  96.        Users  of  STREAMX, a part of SECURITY/3000 from VESOFT Inc., must   
  97.        set a Job Control  Word  before  streaming  jobs.   This  prevents   
  98.        STREAMX  from  generating an error if the Robelle account does not   
  99.        yet exist.  For example,

  105. Step 1:  Upgrade or Build the Robelle Account                               
  106.                                                                             
  107.        Even if you already have the Robelle account, the first thing  you   
  108.        must do is stream the Robelle job:                                   
  109.

  115.        This  job  stream  launches a second job which sends you a message   
  116.        when it has completed.  Stay logged on as Manager.Sys  and  put  a   
  117.        password  on  the Robelle account.  If the Robelle account already   
  118.        exists, use the old password.

  122.        Please note that during installation, we add OP capability to  the   
  123.        Robelle  account.  When the Suprtool installation is complete, you   
  124.        can optionally remove the OP capability.

  127. Step 2:  Restore the Files                                                  
  128.                                                                             
  129.        Stay logged on as Manager.Sys and restore the Robelle files.         
  130.

  133.                                                                             
  134.        The files on the tape require approximately 80,000 sectors.   Most   
  135.        of  these  files  replace  files  that  already  exist, so the new   
  136.        version does not take up much more space than the old version.       
  137.                                                                             
  138.        The Suprtool program files are located in the  Pub  group  of  the   
  139.        Robelle  account.   At this point in the installation process, the   
  140.        files do not have their correct names.  The next step assigns  the   
  141.        proper names to the program files.

  144. Step 3:  Install Suprtool into Production                                   
  145.                                                                             
  146.        Our  installation job installs Suprtool, STExport, Suprlink, Speed   
  147.        Demon, and the Suprtool2 interface.  No one can use these programs   
  148.        when  you  do  the  installation.   Warn  people  not to use these   
  149.        programs for a while, and then stream our installation job.

  156.        Check the installation job $STDLIST.  If anyone is using Suprtool,   
  157.        STExport,  Suprlink, or Speed Demon or attempting to back them up,   
  158.        the job will fail.  Chase away any users, ensure that a backup  is   
  159.        not in progress, then stream the installation job again.             
  160.                                                                             
  161.        The installation job renames your current versions of Suprtool and   
  162.        its components to the PubOld group of the Robelle account.  If you   
  163.        need  to  move  these  versions  back  into  production,  use  the   
  164.        Previous.Suprjob job stream.                                         
  165.                                                                             
  166.        You can now access Suprtool by entering,                             
  167.                                                                             
  168.            :run suprtool.pub.robelle                                        
  169.                                                                             
  170.        Please note that the version of STExport included in this  release   
  171.        is STExport 3.8.01.                                                  
  172.                                                                             
  173.        Important  Note:  If  you  also  use  Netbase  on  MPE/iX, the new   
  174.        Suprtool prefetch algorithms can interact with  Netbase  to  cause   
  175.        system  failures.   We  have  a  simple  work-around  that must be   
  176.        completed by Netbase users.  See step 9 for details.

  179. Optional Installation Steps                                                 
  180.                                                                             
  181.        On MPE/iX, your installation should  be  complete.   If  you  have   
  182.        copied  Speed  Demon  or  the  Suprtool2  interface to your own XL   
  183.        files, you will have to copy the  latest  versions  by  using  the   
  184.        instructions  in  the  user  manuals  for  Speed Demon and Calling   
  185.        Suprtool.

  187.        On MPE V, you need to install Speed Demon  and  Suprtool2  in  the   
  188.        System  SL  in  order  to use the new versions.  MPE/iX users must   
  189.        also do this if they are calling Speed  Demon  or  Suprtool2  from   
  190.        compatibility-mode  programs.   With so few changes to Speed Demon   
  191.        and Suprtool2, you can safely ignore  them  for  this  version  of   
  192.        Suprtool.

  194.        If  you  have  a  Windows  PC, you can install all of the Suprtool   
  195.        documentation in the popular Microsoft Windows WinHelp  format  on   
  196.        your PC.

  199. Step 4:  Speed Demon/V Installation (optional)                              
  200.                                                                             
  201.        To  use  the  new  features of Speed Demon/V, you must install the   
  202.        latest  version  in  the  System  SL.   You  should   follow   the   
  203.        installation  instructions  in the Speed Demon user manual.  These   
  204.        instructions assume that you have  used  the  Install.Suprjob  job   
  205.        stream  to  move Suprtool and its components into the Pub group of   
  206.        the Robelle account.

  211. Step 5:  Suprtool2 Interface Installation (Classic only)                    
  212.                                                                             
  213.        The Suprtool2 interface has been  revised.   On  MPE V,  you  must   
  214.        re-install  the  interface.   If  you  do  not  install the latest   
  215.        Suprtool2 interface, any  program  that  attempts  to  use  totals   
  216.        returned  by  Suprtool2  will  fail.  You can install this version   
  217.        without recompiling any of your existing programs.

  220. System SL Installation                                                      
  221.                                                                             
  222.        To install the latest Suprtool2 interface in the  System  SL,  use   
  223.        our standard installation job.

  228. User SL or XL Files                                                         
  229.                                                                             
  230.        If you have copied the Suprtool2 interface into your own SL or XL,   
  231.        you need to copy the latest version by using the  instructions  in   
  232.        the Calling Suprtool user manual.

  235. Step 6:  Optionally Limiting Suprtool's Runtime Priority                    
  236.                                                                             
  237.        Some system managers like to restrict the amount of resources that   
  238.        Suprtool consumes.  To force Suprtool  to  always  run  in  the  D   
  239.        Queue, you can use HP's Linkedit program.                            
  240.

  245.        Because  most users run in the C Queue, forcing Suprtool to always   
  246.        run in the lower queue means  that  Suprtool  competes  less  with   
  247.        on-line  users,  even when Suprtool runs on-line.  System managers   
  248.        should only restrict the priority of Suprtool if they are familiar   
  249.        with MPE process queues and the Tune command.

  252. Step 7:  Install WinHelp Documentation Files (optional)                     
  253.                                                                             
  254.        All  of  the  Suprtool documentation is now available in Microsoft   
  255.        Windows WinHelp format.  To install and use these  WinHelp  files,   
  256.        your PC must have MS Windows 3.1 or higher.                          
  257.

  259. Make a Temporary Directory for the Setup Program                            
  260.                                                                             
  261.        From  either  DOS  or File Manager, create a new directory for the   
  262.        installation files (you can remove this directory after installing   
  263.        the WinHelp files).

  268. Download Compressed File                                                    
  269.                                                                             
  270.        In  the  next  step, download the self-extracting Zip file to your   
  271.        PC.   Follow  these  instructions  to  download  the   file   with   
  272.        Reflection.   The  file  on  the  HP 3000 is called Suprhelp.Whelp   
  273.        .Robelle.  You should be logged on as Mgr.Robelle.                   
  274.                                                                             
  275.        Press Alt-Y to go to the Reflection Command Line window.  You must   
  276.        use binary transfer.

  282. Expand the Compressed Files                                                 
  283.                                                                             
  284.        Since  we provide both the Setup program and the Help files in one   
  285.        self-extracting Zip file, you only need the following commands  to   
  286.        extract  the  files.   From  the  DOS  prompt,  type the following   
  287.        commands:

  289.             cd \robtemp          {go to the new "robtemp" directory}        
  290.             suprhelp.exe         {extract the Help files}                   
  291.                                                                             
  292.                                                                             
  293. Run the Setup Program                                                       
  294.                                                                             
  295.        From the Program Manager, run the Setup program  by  choosing  Run   
  296.        from  the  File  menu,  then enter c:\robtemp\setup in the Command   
  297.        Line box.  Follow  the  instructions  as  provided  by  the  Setup   
  298.        program.                                                             
  299.                                                                             
  300.        You  can now access all of the Suprtool documentation by selecting   
  301.        any of the icons in the "Robelle Help" Program Manager Group.

  304. Remove the Robtemp Directory                                                
  305.                                                                             
  306.        Remove all of the files from the Robtemp directory either from the   
  307.        File Manager or by using the following DOS commands:                 
  308.                                                                             
  309.             cd \robtemp                                                     
  310.             del *.*                                                         
  311.             cd ..                                                           
  312.             rmdir robtemp                                                   
  313.                                                                             
  314.        You  can  also  copy  the  files  in  Robtemp  to  a  diskette and   
  315.        distribute them to other Suprtool users.

  318. Step 8:  Install HowMessy (MPE/iX only)                                     
  319.                                                                             
  320.        HowMessy has been included in this release of Suprtool.   You  can   
  321.        install HowMessy by streaming the install job.

  326. Step 9:  Netbase and Suprtool (MPE/iX only)                                 
  327.                                                                             
  328.        Netbase is a product from Quest Software that allows you to access   
  329.        files and databases on remote machines, but they look  like  local   
  330.        files.  There is a problem when using Netbase and Suprtool.          
  331.                                                                             
  332.        1. System  failures  can  occur  if  the  Netbase version is below   
  333.           0.9.4.                                                            
  334.                                                                             
  335.        The solution to this problems is to insure that you  have  Netbase   
  336.        0.9.4.                                                               
  337.                                                                             
  338.        If  you  do  not  have the correct version then you can workaround   
  339.        this problem by adding the following line to  the  Suprmgr.Pub.Sys   
  340.        file:

  345. Step 10:  Purge Installation Files (optional)                               
  346.                                                                             
  347.        The easiest way to clean up after an installation is to stream the   
  348.        Cleanup.Purgejob.Robelle job.  This job saves you  disc  space  by   
  349.        purging  the  installation  files.   It  does  not purge any files   
  350.        needed to run the software.
