  8. PLEASE NOTE: While Search and Replace allows replacing in binary
  9. files (such as .DOC, .XLS etc), these proprietary format files may
  10. contain internal counters which may get out of synch when changed
  11. with an external program.  As a result, the application that
  12. created the file may not be able to read it. For best results,
  13. replace in ASCII text files (such as .HTM, .RTF, .TXT, .INI, .C,
  14. .CPP, .H etc).  In particular, Word files should be converted to
  15. RTF format which can be safely processed.  For replacing in
  16. shortcuts or the registry, see our new utilities at
  17. http://www.funduc.com.  For Word file replacement, see the WordSR
  18. freeware on our website.

  117. - %%SRPREPEND%% and %%SRAPPEND%% operators for scripts.  
  118. - Script switches in the [Options] section can now go in any 
  119.   order. Previously they had to be in a specific order.
  120. - Settings from Options-General are no longer saved in scripts.
  121. - The results can be dumped directly to the windows clipboard.
  122.   Specify 'clipboard' (no quotes) for the output file spec in 
  123.   Options-Output.
  124. - Search all local hard drives can be done by specifying 'Local 
  125.   Hard Drives' in the Path field. To search shares you have 
  126.   access to on a UNC path, specify the UNC machine name in 
  127.   the Path field.
  128. - Additional special replacement operators: %%srfound%% returns
  129.   the entire search string found. %%srfilesize%% returns the size
  130.   of the file prior to replacements.
  131. - The boolean regular expression operators - &, |, and ~.
  132.   can be used directly in the Search For: field. Enable 'Whole 
  133.   Word' search to use. See F1 Help for more information.
  134. - Switch to enable display of file data & time in Search Results 
  135.   (Options-Output).
  136. - Warning for Delete during file operations.  
  137. - UNICODE text files are processed automatically, without any user
  138.   setup.
  139. - Progress meter can be displayed or not.
  140. - Results list can be scrolled during processing (it slows the 
  141.   display down somewhat).
  142. - Additional variables for file date/time and system date/time to
  143.   be used in searches/replaces
  144. - Sorting of file names to be processed by various criteria
  145. - Executing scripts from the command line does not display the 
  146.   user interface if the /q switch is used.
  147. - More powerful attribute filters.  See Help for more details.
  148. - Allowing reversal of Filters (only showing files meeting the
  149.   given criteria).
  150. - Progress dialog with Cancel button.
  151. - New tree display allows one to collapse branches for a "cleaner
  152.   display".  Ctrl and + or - keypad key expand or collapse all
  153.   branches.  F4 and F5 move from file to file.
  154. - Append to Output File switch and script option.
  155. - Auto-complete combo boxes.  The option can be adjusted in
  156.   Options | General.
  157. - Filters for File Attributes were added to Options, Filter tab.
  158. - Organize Favorites now has an Edit button that allows you
  159.   to edit the selected item.
  160. - Network client setup is available on demand (write 
  161.   support@funduc.com).  That way all client machines can use the 
  162.   same copy of the program.
  163. - New Favorites menu allows you to save frequently used searches
  164.   and/or paths and file masks.
  165. - Replace Confirmation and File Operations dialogs are resizable
  166.   and they remember the last position.
  167. - Shift+Ctrl+H will replace text in the clipboard.
  168. - More script options for performing replaces more than once 
  169.   (in a specified loop).
  170. - An HTML mode which processes text with special HTML characters
  171.   (such as <>& and accented characters).
  172. - Find in Search Results
  173. - A way to convert files character by character (between ASCII and
  174.   EBCDIC for example) by using a special script.  See help file
  175.   and example scripts.
  176. - Touch only files selected in the Search results list (see context
  177.   menu).
  178. - Option for maximum characters on a line displayed for each hit.
  179. - Regular Expression operators for beginning and end of file.
  180. - Ability to specify include/exclude expressions based on a regular 
  181.   expression hit. 
  182. - Holding Alt+Ctrl when clicking on Search or Replace button will
  183.   process only the files currently listed in the Search results
  184.   (if any).
  185. - Regular expression operator ! syntax has changed(it was also
  186.   improved).  See Help file for more information.
  187. - Search/replace information is displayed for Copy to 
  188.   Clipboard, Print or View as HTML.
  189. - Main Window has an improved user interface with a 
  190.   configurable toolbar (View Menu or right click on toolbar).
  191. - Script editor uses Tabs for improved navigation and allows 
  192.   comments to be entered and edited for Search/Replace items.
  193. - In the Touch dialog you can now add or subtract (use a 
  194.   negative value) seconds from the date/time stamp of 
  195.   selected files.
  196. - Maximum Regular Expression size is now 32K (Options-Search).  
  197. - Apply Script button in Binary Mode dialog (... button next to
  198.   Search/Replace fields) allows conversion of plain text to
  199.   RTF, Unicode, precede reserved characters by \ etc).
  200. - Check Ignore Whitespace to find a phrase regardless of where
  201.   line breaks may lie.
  202. - File Operations are available (see context menu and the
  203.   Actions menu) on selected file names from the results list.
  204. - %%envvar=temp%% can be used in the search or replace field to
  205.   be replaced by the contents of an environment variable (in this
  206.   case temp).
  207. - View Context window (double-click a hit line) has Prev/Next hit
  208.   buttons.
  209. - Holding Ctrl key down when clicking on Insert or Remove All 
  210.   buttons in the script editor will put the main window's
  211.   Search/Replace and Path/Mask values in the script fields.
  212. - Text files can now be re-formatted at a specific column (see
  213.   Binary Mode dialog Help in the Help file).
  214. - In Binary Mode dialog (... button next to Search and Replace 
  215.   fields), if regular expression is checked on main screen, the
  216. - Print menu when Search Results are displayed.  Also a View as
  217.   HTML menu to view results in your browser(and perhaps then
  218.   print them in color).
  219. - Undo replace feature when using a Backup Directory.
  220. - Caching of file names processed previously is enabled by 
  221.   default.  It can be turned off in Options.
  222. - In the 32 bit version, Page Up/Down moves around a file in the
  223.   View Context window.
  224. - Drag and drop of files or folders to the program is possible.
  225. - Allowing including/excluding of certain files and/or 
  226.   subdirectories when processing.  See user interface for that
  227.   when pressing ... button next to the Mask field.
  228. - Stop processing file after first hit Option was added.
  229. - Allowing script files to contain options for batch processing.
  230. - Multiple paths, separated by ; can be used for processing from
  231.   the main window.
  232. - Touch functionality allows changing file attributes also.
  233. - Files and/or directories can be dropped from the Explorer or File 
  234.   Manager into the main window and they will be recognized for 
  235.   processing. 
  236. - Script files can now contain a description and a boolean 
  237.   expression to control which files will be processed (see 
  238.   Script/Advanced).  Several Options can now be specified in a 
  239.   script file.
  240. - Entering "Default Printer" for the Output file setting in
  241.   Options/Output will produce a wrapped printout.
  242. - Tighter integration with the Windows Explorer for processing 
  243.   certain selected files/directories and the program is now 
  244.   available on the Start/Find menu in Windows 95/NT 4.0. 
  245. - Several useful scripts are included and copied to the program's 
  246.   directory. 
  247. - Numbers can be incremented or decremented using Regular Expression 
  248.   replaces. See Help file for more info. 
  249. - In replaces, when the strings %%SRPATH%% and/or%%SRFILE%% are 
  250.   found, the program will insert the currently processed file path 
  251.   and name in their place. 
  252. - In the Windows 95/NT version, Enter on the Search Results acts as 
  253.   a double-click. 
  254. - Default viewer Option now handles keywords %line% and %path% for 
  255.   current line and path for custom editor command line settings.  
  256.   The keywords are case insensitive. 
  257. - Regular Expressions allow specifying a range of expressions to 
  258.   match for the + operator (ie +5[a-z] matches exactly 5 characters, 
  259.   +5-10[a-z] matches 5 to 10, +-5[a-z] matches 5 or less and 
  260.   +5+[a- z] matches at least 5 characters). 
  261. - Regular Expressions syntax was improved to allow specifying all 
  262.   characters like so: [] means match ANY 1 character, +5[] means 
  263.   match ANY 5 characters etc. 
  264. - Filters for processing files between dates, sizes.  See Options. 
  265. - Output Options were split from Search Options and expanded.  A 
  266.   Display replace string feature will allow creation of reports 
  267.   without line numbers.  It also serves as a log of what was 
  268.   replaced (when some hits are not replaced, the replace string is 
  269.   not output). 
  270. - You can prepend or append data (several lines if you want) at the 
  271.   beginning or end of the files processed using the Binary Mode 
  272.   dialog (... buttons next to the Search and Replace fields).  This 
  273.   feature can also be used with scripts. 
  274. - Write changed files to Backup Directory option now allows you to 
  275.   leave your original files intact and write the changed files to 
  276.   the Backup Directory instead. 
  277. - Regular expressions to find  (and replace) items "close by" (up to 
  278.   4096 characters) can be set in options.  The default is 512 
  279.   characters. 
  280. - The Windows 95/NT version allows View Context of binary files 
  281.   through a new Freeware utility: HexView.  HexView can be 
  282.   downloaded from http://www.funduc.com.  It should then be 
  283.   installed in the same directory as Search and Replace(or in the 
  284.   path or the Windows dir.). 
  285. - Scripts can be created to specify multiple search/replace 
  286.   combinations (with associated settings) and/or multiple paths and 
  287.   masks to process.  The script settings (masks, paths, 
  288.   search/replace strings) can also be overridden from the main 
  289.   screen. 
  290. - Exclude masks can now be used.  For example: 
  291.   *.*;~*.swp;~*.exe;~*.dll will process all but *.swp;*.exe;*.dll 
  292.   files.
