Copyright 1996-2004 Funduc Software Inc.
You may also download a self-installing version of Decode Shell
Extension from our web site, http://www.funduc.com. The self-
install version will install the program into the directory of
your choice and create an uninstall option. If you are not
comfortable editing the Windows registry, we suggest you use the
self-installing version for the convenience of the uninstall
function.
Advanced users: The files you see here in the present zip are
those that are installed by the self-install.
IMPORTANT NOTE !!!
=================
Do not experiment with your installation and try to trick Decode
Shell Extension into doing something it was not designed to do.
The dll only works with Windows Explorer. There is no way to coax
it into decoding files automatically or getting a decode function
into your AOL or Compuserve 2000 menu. DO NOT associate any files
with decext.dll. DO NOT put decext.dll or setupdx.exe into your
StartUp folder. DO NOT use REGSVR32.EXE to register the dll. Any
experimenting along these lines is pointless. You will only make
trouble for yourself.
Win95/98/ME NT/2000/XP Installation:
-------------------------------------
1 - Unzip DECEXT.REG, DECEXT.DLL, README.TXT, DECFAQ1.HTM, and
INSTALL.TXT into the subdirectory of your choice. We suggest
using
C:\TOOLS\DECEXT
although any subdirectory will do.
2 - To enable the shell extension you will need to merge the file,
DECEXT.REG, into the Windows registry. If you used
C:\TOOLS\DECEXT as the subdirectory in step 1, DECEXT.REG can be
merged as is. To do this, open an Explorer view of
C:\TOOLS\DECEXT, right click on DECEXT.REG, and select "Merge".
If you used another subdirectory or path in step 1, you will need
to edit DECEXT.REG before merging it into the registry. Open
DECEXT.REG with a text editor such as notepad.exe and adjust all
lines containing the string C:\\TOOLS\\DECEXT\\ to the
subdirectory you installed the program into. Note that you must
double the \ characters. For example, if you unpacked the archive
into the subdirectory D:\FUNDUC\DECODE you would replace the
instance of C:\\TOOLS\\DECEXT\\ with D:\\FUNDUC\\DECODE\\. Once
you have finished editing DECEXT.REG, merge it into the registry
as described above.
3 - That's it. On some computers you may need to close any open
Explorer folder/file views and reopen them to activate the
extensions. In most cases, however, you can begin using them
right away by right clicking on a file or folder.
Uninstall:
----------
1 - Back up your Windows registry (recommended).
2 - Edit the Windows registry and delete the registry keys found
in DECEXT.REG.
3 - Delete the subdirectory you created in step 1 of the install
instructions above.
