  1.                     Updating STalker To Version 2.06

  4. You should find the following files in this archive:
  5.  
  6.     CHANGES.203     The list of changes up to version 2.03
  7.     CHANGES.206     The changes from version 2.04 to version 2.06
  8.     PATCH.PRG       A program that will update your STalker 2.00 to 2.06
  9.     READ_ME.TXT     This file
  10.     STALKER.RSC     The new resource file for version 2.06
  11.     STKR_200.206    A data file for PATCH.PRG

  13. This archive may be distributed freely.  STalker however is a commercial
  14. product whose copyright is owned by Strata Software, and therefore may not
  15. be duplicated in any way other than for backup purposes.  If you frequent 
  16. various BBSes then please upload this patch program so that other STalker 
  17. owners can get the benefits of the new version.  As always, a $5 disk swap 
  18. is possible for those who can't get or don't want to use this patch.  Just 
  19. send in the *original* diskette and $5 to the address given at the end of 
  20. this file.

  23. To update your copy of STalker 2.xx to version 2.06 follow these steps:
  24.  
  25. 1   Create a (temporary) folder and put the following files in it:
  26.  
  27.     PATCH.PRG       STKR_200.206        STALKER.200
  28.  
  29.     The name and location of the temporary folder is not important.  If 
  30.     you're using a floppy disk the root directory is fine, but don't have 
  31.     anything else there.  Also, make sure you've got at least 80K free for 
  32.     the output file.
  33.  
  34.     The first two files are from this patch archive, the file STALKER.200 
  35.     is created in one of two ways:  if your distribution diskette contains
  36.     a file called STALKER.200 then use that file, otherwise your
  37.     distribution disk is for version 2.00 and you should copy and then
  38.     rename the original STALKER.ACC to STALKER.200 in the temporary folder.

  40.     Note:  if you have enough disk space (ie. a double-sided floppy or a 
  41.     hard disk) you can put your STENO.100 and the STNO_100.103 file from 
  42.     the STeno 1.03 upgrade patch in the same folder and update your STeno
  43.     right after you finish updating STalker.

  45. 2   Double-click on the PATCH.PRG program.  It will read from STALKER.200
  46.     and STKR_200.206 and will produce STALKER.ACC.
  47.  
  48.     If any errors occur during the process (such as a disk full error) you
  49.     will be given a warning message and the update will be aborted.  Take
  50.     whatever action is necessary to remedy the situation and try again.  
  51.     The most likely cause is a write-protect or full diskette error.
  52.  
  53.     If you get an alert box indicating that the checksum doesn't match 
  54.     then there are a couple of possibilities as to what went wrong.  This 
  55.     could happen if you used the wrong file for STALKER.200 - it must be 
  56.     the version from the distribution diskette.  If even one byte of the 
  57.     file is different the patch won't work.  The other possibility is that 
  58.     the STKR_200.206 file got corrupted during the downloading or unARCing 
  59.     process.  This is pretty unlikely but has been known to happen.  Try 
  60.     downloading it again and repeat the process.

  62. 3   Copy the newly created STALKER.ACC and the STALKER.RSC found in the 
  63.     archive onto your boot diskette or your hard disk.

  66. That's all there is to it!
  67.  
  68. Do *NOT* delete your original copy of STalker; it will be needed for 
  69. future updates.  Remember, never change the contents of the distribution 
  70. diskette.

  72. Be sure to *carefully* read the CHANGES.203 and CHANGES.206 files.  They
  73. contain detailed descriptions of the new features.
