GO-UP is a graphics arcade-style game from Germany based on the
popular "LodeRunner" game. This version works on monochrome monitor
systems only. I've translated most of the drop-down menus (in the
Editor) and the important radio buttons into English. The original
German docs for this program can be found in the file INFO.ASC.
Basically, the game is pretty simple to use. GO-UP uses either mouse
or joystick and allows for 1-4 players (you must share the joystick
or mouse). When the game loads the title screen, an arrow will appear
in the bottom left corner of the screen. This indicates you should
hit a Return. Doing so gets you to the configuration screen, where
you can choose number of players, mouse or joystick, enter the screen
editor (to make your own GO-UP screens) and load a different
"Level-Library."
There are two level-libraries accompanying the game. The default
library is called GOUP. To select the other for playing/editing, type
in GOUPALT at the "Level-Libraries" entry at the top of the
configuration screen.
To play, simply hit return at the configuration screen (or click on
START). The object at each screen is to pick up all the gems, thereby
opening up the way to the next level. But, watch out for the nasty
guys trying to kill you...if they touch you, you're dead. As in
LodeRunner, you can "blast" through the brick floors, either creating
an escape route for yourself or trapping the bad guys momentarily.
GO-UP maintains a separate High Score file for each Level-Library.
Selecting the EDITOR option at the configuration screen allows you to
modify/edit the levels contained in the currently selected
Level-Library. You can even create your own brand-new screens from
scratch. One quick little hint...while in the edit window, clicking
the right mouse button will bring up an "icon palette" from which you
can select any of the various objects in the game.
Although this text file doesn't completely document all the features
of GO-UP, you should be able to figure out the rest from
experimentation. Look for more of these programs from Germany on
future Atari Interface Magazine Disks of the Month. We've gotten a
number of people who are interested in translating the documentation
for these programs. (YEA!)
