  1. [01] WHAT IS USENET? HOW DO I GO ABOUT BEING A PART OF USENET?

  3.      USENET consists of thousands of topic related "newsgroups".  Submissions
  4.      to these newsgroups propogate via internetworked news servers through
  5.      out the world.

  7.      From the UNIX shell, create a file in your home directory called
  8.      .newsrc.  Add the list of groups you want to read like this:

  10.        comp.lang.lisp:
  11.        rec.music.makers.synth:
  12.        comp.os.cpm:
  13.        comp.36bit.multics:
  14.        comp.36bit.twenex:

  16.      The popular news readers seem to be trn and tin.  You can run either
  17.      from the UNIX shell.

  19.      Posting messages can be done from within a newsreader, or by using
  20.      the "postnews" or "Pnews" commands.

  22.      NOTE FOR PINE USERS!

  24.      If you want to read news from within pine, set the NNTP server to be 
  25.      "news.sdf.org" Note that news can't be reached outside of sdf.  However
  26.      if you have a tunnel running (either via the MetaARPA or VPN memberships)
  27.      you can connect to the news server.
