  1.                       NCD (Norton Change Directory)
  2.  
  3. Description:   Creates or removes directories and lets you change to any
  4.                directory quickly by entering only part of the last qualifier
  5.                of the directory path. This command can also provide a
  6.                full-screen menu system that displays the directory tree and
  7.                lets you maintain or change to directories within the tree.
  8.  
  9. NCD maintains a file named TREEINFO.NCD in the root directory of the drive;
  10. TREEINFO.NCD contains quick lookup tables for all directories. This file is
  11. created the first time you run NCD on a drive and is updated whenever you run
  12. NCD MD or NCD RD or if you use the /R switch with NCD (dirspec).

  25.                                  Parameters:
  26.  
  27. (dirspec)      The partial or complete last qualifier of the directory you
  28.                want to establish as the current directory. You cannot include
  29.                either a drive or the parent path names in (dirspec). NCD
  30.                compares (dirspec) to the leading characters of the last
  31.                qualifier for each directory name in the tree, and it
  32.                establishes as the current directory the next directory whose
  33.                last qualifier matches (dirspec). To establish the next
  34.                matching directory as the current directory, enter NCD using
  35.                the same (dirspec). If the last qualifiers for all directories
  36.                on a disk are unique, NCD requires fewer keystrokes than the
  37.                MS-DOS CD command does to establish a directory within a
  38.                complex tree as the current directory.

  40. MD (dirname)   Works identically to the MS-DOS MD command, but also updates
  41.                the TREEINFO.NCD file.
  42.  
  43. RD (dirname)   Works identically to the MS-DOS RD command, but also updates
  44.                the TREEINFO.NCD file. /B(n)   The background color for the
  45.                menu system if you do not specify either (dirspec) or the MD
  46.                or RD subcommand. Use an integer from 0 through 15 to specify
  47.                the color. If you attempt to specify identical foreground and
  48.                background colors, NCD adds one to the foreground color number
  49.                before beginning execution. Avoid using the high-intensity 
  50.                shade of a color for the foreground with the normal-intensity
  51.                shade of the same color for the background (for example, /F12
  52.                bright red and /B4 red). The default is /B1 (blue). See
  53.                <NUCOLOR>.

  55. /BW            Specifies a black-and-white display in versions 4.0 and 4.5.
  56.  
  57. /D0            Requests the standard screen driver (the default) for a fully
  58.                IBM-compatible computer system.
  59.  
  60. /D1            Requests the screen driver for a BIOS-compatible computer
  61.                system.
  62.  
  63. /D2            Requests the ANSI.SYS driver for a non-IBM-compatible computer
  64.                system.
  65.  
  66. /F(n)          Specifies the foreground color for the menu system if you do
  67.                not specify either (dirspec) or the MD or RD subcommand. Use
  68.                an integer from 0 through 15 to specify the color. The default
  69.                is /F15 (bright white). See <NUCOLOR>.

  71. /N             Prevents NCD from writing a TREEINFO.NCD file. Include this
  72.                switch when you run NCD on a write-protected floppy disk.
  73.  
  74. /NOSNOW        Prevents screen flicker if your system has an older CGA card.
  75.  
  76. /R             Rescans the directories and updates TREEINFO.NCD. Include this
  77.                switch if you used the MS-DOS MD or RD command instead of NCD
  78.                to change the directory tree structure.

  80. /TV            Indicates that NCD is running under either TopView or
  81.                Microsoft Windows.

  83.                                    Notes:

  85. <NUNCDG01> shows the primary display within the full-screen menu system of
  86. NCD in version 4.5; the menu system is also available in version 4.0. In
  87. versions 4.0 and 4.5, use the direction keys to move the highlight from one
  88. directory to another. Press PgUp and PgDn to move the highlight a page at a
  89. time. Press Home to move to the top of the tree and press End to move to the
  90. bottom of the tree.

  92. In version 4.5, you can search for a particular directory by entering one or
  93. more characters of the last qualifier of the directory path: Speed Search
  94. stops on the next directory whose last qualifier begins with the characters
  95. you entered. Press Ctrl-Enter to continue the search for the next matching
  96. directory.

  100. When the highlight is on the directory you want, press Enter to make that
  101. directory current and to exit NCD. In version 4.5, press F2 to rescan the
  102. directories on the disk and to rebuild TREEINFO.NCD. (This is the same as
  103. using the /R switch.) Press F3 to call up the submenu to select a new drive.
  104. Either use the direction keys to move the highlight to the drive you want and
  105. then press Enter, or press Escape to exit drive selection.

  107. Move the highlight to the name of a directory you want to modify. Then press
  108. F6 in version 4.5 or the letter R in version 4.0 to rename the directory.
  109. (You can rename a directory only if you are using MS-DOS version 3.0 or
  110. later.) Press F7 in version 4.5 or the letter M in version 4.0 to create a
  111. new subdirectory under this directory. Press F8 in version 4.5 or the letter
  112. D in version 4.0 to delete the directory. You can delete a directory only if
  113. it is empty.

  115. If you have either an EGA or a VGA monitor, you can change the number of
  116. lines on the display by pressing F9. Use the direction keys to select the
  117. number of lines you want from the submenu.

  119. You can exit the NCD menu system at any time by pressing F10 or Escape.
