DFL v3.01 William Ataras Registration $35.00
UTIL JUL91 DUPLICATE FILES ALIAS HARD DRIVE MAINTENANCE
FILES: dfl301.sdn
Update
The DUPLICATE FILE LOCATOR (DFL) program is used to locate
all duplicate files which are on one or more disk drives of
any size. With this version of DFL, we introduce a virtual
memory system to allow processing ANY size disks. Also, for
registered users, we provide complete archive support using
up to 10 different archive program systems of your choice.
Internally, we handle archives as though they were subdirec-
tories.
There are several modes of operation. The first -NAME MODE-
searches for dups like any other similar program does. It
looks for files with matching names. DFL then sorts the list
alphabetically. Files with the same name will be adjacent
when this is done. DFL then puts up the list of all
duplicates in a window, arranging files with the same name in
distinct groups.
The second primary mode - ALIAS MODE - is unique with DFL. In
this mode, the internal list is built and then sorted by file
size. Then DFL compares the data in files of the same length.
In this way, files with the same information, regardless of
the names, will be reported in the duplicate window.
After DFL has built the list of duplicates and displayed it
in the window, the user can view the files, write the list to
a file, compare files, or delete one or more files. All of
these functions are explained in the on-line help system.
Just press F1 whenever DFL is waiting for user input and a
large help window opens. You can scroll through the help
window to find whatever information you are seeking.
This version has many features not present in earlier ver-
sions:
1. Virtual memory allows us to handle unlimited capacity disk
systems, as long as there is about 1 meg of free disk space
for every 25,000 files.
2. A pull-down menu system with context sensitive help for
all functions is provided.
3. Support for archive file systems is provided for regis-
tered users.
4. A user manual in file form is provided.
DFL was written because I found no acceptable programs on any
of the BBSs I tried. While there were similar programs, some
had bugs, others ran out of memory when processing my 330 Meg
drive, none had a file view feature, and none had an ALIAS
mode. DFL is the solution to all of these problems.
Operating systems Requirements: DOS 3.0 or later
