GT-UTIL Documentation File
--------------------------
The conversion option will allow users of previous versions of GT to
convert to the new phone directory format used in GT POWER 14.00.
The print and convert options of GT-UTIL are fairly self-explanatory.
If you need one use it, otherwise they will just get you in trouble.
Especially if you try to convert a directory that does not need it.
The last option, BBS list import, is pretty much an art. BBS lists come
in many formats and this option attempts to decode all of them. To do
this, some manual help is required from the user. Here are the required
steps needed to prepare a list for import:
1. Remove all lines from the list that do not contain a phone number.
Your favorite editor will be very helpful when trying to complete
the tasks on this list!
2. If not already arranged, the phone numbers must be in the 1st or
second column of the list. And each column must be separated from
surrounding columns by at least 2 consecutive blanks or periods.
For example:
772-2090.the Programmer's Workshop { NOT Good Format }
772-2090..the Programmer's Workshop { MUCH Better, 2 periods! }
3. Any BBS name that begins with a number, 0 - 9, must be enclosed
within quotation marks, so that the program does not think it is
the phone number. For example:
66 Scado.......342-8954 { NOT Good Format }
'66 Scado'.....342-8954 { Much Better, quotes! }
When the program converts the list, it tries to find the phone number and
put it in the proper location, then as much of the rest of the information
that remains, will be placed in the description field. The serial port
parameters will default to "1200 N 8 1".
