  1. GETTIN╟ STARTED.
  2.  
  3.      The natural human inclination is to start using products 
  4. before wading through the instructions.  We understand that and 
  5. have developed some rather simple steps to provide initial ZSDOS 
  6. capabilities rather painlessly.  This will provide the inducement 
  7. to read the appropriate sections of the manual for a complete 
  8. customized installation.  Merely follow the steps listed here, 
  9. then read the manual at your liesure to learn how to tailor the 
  10. ZSDOS system to you particular needs and desires.  These instruc
  11. tions cite the relevant paragraphs in the manual in case a more 
  12. detailed description is desired.

  14. 1« LOADIN╟ TH┼ DOS  These steps are written around the full-
  15. featured ZSDOS version of the Operating System to demonstrate all 
  16. of the power, and provide procedures for systems already using 
  17. either type of Time Stamping supported by ZSDOS.  It is recom
  18. mended that these steps be followed initially, followed by a 
  19. later installation with ZDDOS if either a minimal memory configu
  20. ration is desired, or only DateStamper-type File Stamping is 
  21. desired.  The differences between ZSDOS and ZDDOS are briefly 
  22. described in Section 1 of the manual.

  24.     A. DO YOU OPERATE UNDER NZ-COM?                   (3.1.2)
  25.     If No, Go To Step B.
  26.     If Yes,
  27.  
  28.         Rename ZSDOS.ZRL to NZDOS.ZRL and replace your
  29.         existing NZDOS.ZRL with this new file.  Reinstall
  30.         NZCOM and load the system.
  31.  
  32.         Go to Step 2.
  33.  
  34.     B. DO YOU HAVE Plu*Perfect Systems' JETLDR?       (3.1.3)
  35.     If No, Go To Step C.
  36.     If Yes,
  37.  
  38.         Type:
  39.             JETLDR ZSDOS.ZRL
  40.  
  41.         Go to Step 2.
  42.  
  43.     C. ARE YOU USING AN SB-180/FX-180 with XBIOS?     (3.1.4)
  44.     If No, Go To Step D.
  45.     If Yes,
  46.  
  47.         Enter SYSBLD with your current system model.
  48.         Select Menu 1.1, and change the DOS name to
  49.         ZSDOS.ZRL.  Exit SYSBLD, and "XBOOT" the new image.

  51.         Go to Step 2.

  53.     D. YOU ARE INSTALLING TO A BOOTABLE SYSTEM IMAGE. (3.1.1)
  54.  
  55.     (1) Create a system image file with MOVCPM, MOVZSYS or
  56.         whatever facility you computer uses (ONEAC ON!
  57.         image is already in this form).  Save the moved
  58.         system image to a disk file remembering the name.
  59.

  61.     (2) Call the ZSDOS Installation tool in absolute mode
  62.         (3.1.1.1) with:
  63.             INSTALOS /A
  64.         Read in the image created above, and select option
  65.         2 to replace the DOS.  Load the ZSDOS.ZRL file and
  66.         answer 'N' (No) to the prompt asking whether to
  67.         configure default options.  Select menu option 4 to
  68.         exit the program and save the new image.
  69.  
  70.     (3) Install the new image on your system boot tracks
  71.         with the SYSGEN utility provided with your computer.
  72.         WARNING: PERFORM THIS STEP ON A WORKING DISK, NOT A
  73.         MASTER DISK.  Reboot your system from this disk and
  74.         you will be operating under ZSDOS.

  77. 2. You should have completed installation of one of the forms in
  78. step 1 at this point, and have ZSDOS up and running.  To see what
  79. Time Stamps can do for your system, two files have been pre-
  80. configured on the distribution disk.  LDTIMD.COM is an RSX form
  81. of DateStamper with the Relative clock.  LDTIMP.COM is an RSX form
  82. of P2DOS stamping also with the Relative clock.  If you are
  83. unfamiliar with the two methods, a brief comparison is:

  96. If you do NOT want Date/Time Stamp or clock support, go to
  97. Step 3, otherwise activate one of the two programs by entering
  98. either LDTIMD or LDTIMP (see LDTIM, 3.2.3).  Then Set the clock
  99. using TD.COM (4.6).

  101. To see the effect of stamping, prepare a disk for stamping with
  102. PUTDS.COM (3.2.4) if you selected LDTIMD, or INITDIR.COM (3.2.5)
  103. if you selected LDTIMP.  Copy or edit some files and note the
  104. effect with ZXD (4.11).  You will probably want to tailor the
  105. stamping to your system clock or other parameters now, so please
  106. read Section 3 of the manual for details.

  109. 3. FINAL TOUCHES.  After you have completed whichever of the above 
  110. steps you elected, we recommend highly that you read at least 
  111. Sections 1 and 2 of the manual to learn the power that ZSDOS can 
  112. bring to 8-bit computers.  Learn to use the tools provided with 
  113. the ZSDOS distribution package to customize the Operating System 
  114. to your own requirements and desires.  All tools listed below 
  115. operate equally well under ZSDOS and ZDDOS unless specifically 
  116. noted.  Briefly, the tools are:

  119.      COPY - Copy single or groups of files between disk drives 
  120. and/or user areas preserving date/time stamps (Modification of 
  121. ZCPR tool MCOPY).  (4.1)

  123.      DATSWEEP  (ZDDOS or ZSDOS with DateStamper only) - 
  124. Plu*Perfect's full-featured screen-oriented disk and file utility 
  125. (4.2).

  127.      FILEATTR - Display/Set attributes of individual or groups of 
  128. files.  (4.3)
  129.  
  130.      FILEDATE (ZDDOS or ZSDOS with DateStamper only) - Full fea
  131. tured Disk directory lister that permits elaborate selective 
  132. listing based on DateStamper-style Date/Time files.  (4.4)

  134.      INITDIR - Initialize a disk directory for P2DOS (CP/M Plus) 
  135. type Date/Time Stamping.  (3.2.5)
  136.  
  137.      PUTDS - Initialize a disk for DateStamper type Date/Time 
  138. Stamping (licensed Plu*Perfect utility).  (3.2.4)
  139.  
  140.      RELOG - Resets Hard Disk Login vectors.  Primarily for use 
  141. in more elaborate Hard Disk systems which swap logical Hard 
  142. Drives, or use removeable-media, but are defined as Fixed Drives.

  145.      TD - Display/Set an installed clock via ZSDOS/ZDDOS.  (4.6)

  147.      ZCAL - Display a brief calendar of current or any desired

  150.      ZCNFG - Configuration utility to set defaults, such as US or 
  151. European date displays, in COPY, FILEATTR, FILEDATE, TD, and ZXD.

  153.      ZPATH (ZSDOS only) - Permits setting the Internal DOS path 
  154. as well as a ZCPR3 path (Modification of ZCPR tool PATH).  (4.9)

  156.      ZSCONFIG - Basic configuration program for both ZSDOS and 
  157. ZDDOS.  Operates in both interactive and command-line driven 
  158. modes wih the latter being ideal for customizing the System from 
  159. a STARTUP file under ZCPR3 environments.  Options vary between 
  160. ZSDOS and ZDDOS.  (4.10)

  162.      ZXD - Directory lister for DateStamper and/or P2DOS (CP/M 
  163. Plus) Date/Time stamping methods (Extensive modification of ZCPR 
  164. tool XD III).  (4.11)
