COMMENT:One of the better reference books skeptics can have on hand, containing short but substantive critiques of many paranormal claims. It is also best read with its limitations in mind, however; Hines resorts to quick-and-dirty but generally inadequate criteria to sort out science from pseudoscience (especially falsifiability), and he does not always respond to the most credible versions of the fringe claims he discusses. Overall, however, it is very useful and readable.
