COMMENT:A 20th century classic about occult practices, briefly discussing many forms of occultism and witchcraft in the text, which is devoted to explaining 376 magnificent samples of art inspired by the occult. The author is mainly noncommittal about the success of the strange ideas described -- it is sometimes difficult to tell if he is giving assent or being sardonic in his affirmations. The way to read this book is to use the text as a background that allows better appreciation of the illustrations. The trip to a world of demons, witches and hermetic mysteries is well worth while.
