COMMENT:Richard Wiseman has carried out extensive academic research into the psychology of deception, psychic fraud, and the paranormal. Deception And Self-Deception vividly describes many of the experiments Wiseman has undertaken to test the validity of well-known psychics the world over. Indian swamis, an Italian physical medium, and the Society for Research in Rapport and Telekinesis (SORRAT) are among those he investigates and finds lacking in authentic paranormal ability. He outlines many of the techniques which can be used to fake psychic ability and describes ways in which these can be countered in an investigation.
