  1. AUTHOR:Keith E. Stanovich
  2. CATEGORY:psychology
  3. COMMENT:Psychology, especially pop-psychology, is cursed with a lot of nonsense.  Stanovich's book is a good place to start getting a more correct picture, especially since it includes much material on Freudian weirdness, psychology in the media, placebos, why testimonials are useless, critical thinking skills, and pseudosciences parasitic on psychology.  The book is not without flaws; for example, it relies on an all-too-common simplistic falsificationism to separate science from non-science.  However, it still is an excellent introduction to scientific and skeptical psychology.
