  16. (1) INTRODUCTION

  18. Timber is a flexible program for palm devices with which you can log
  19. numerical data - one entry per calendar day. There is a list view and
  20. four graphical views. You can set a goal line for future values.
  21.  
  22. Hopefully, I designed Timber lean and mean and in the palm
  23. spirit. Most things you can do with one tap.
  24.  
  25. I developed Timber and tested it with POSE and on a Palm V. Since the
  26. freezing of the 0.0 beta version I use it on a Palm V myself.
  27.  
  28. Timber was developed on a LINUX system with GCC and other free (GNU
  29. GPL) tools. One of Timbers aims is to promote GNU GPL terms on the
  30. palm platform, which, at the moment, is dominated by commercial
  31. software and shareware.

  33. This version of Timber is a beta version for testing and evaluation
  34. purposes. Please let me know of any bugs or important missing
  35. features (address below).

  40. THIS PROGRAM COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTIES. READ THE DOCUMENT
  41. LICENSE.txt CONCERNING THIS ISSUE! BE ESPECIALLY AWARE OF THE FACT
  42. THAT THE CURRENT VERSION IS BETA. Although this program has been
  43. thoroughly designed and tested, it might cause crashes, memory leaks
  44. or more dramatic danger to the (data) integrity of your palm
  45. device. Be sure to regularly make backups (well, this generally is a
  46. good advice ;-) while testing or using Timber.

  48. DO NOT USE TIMBER ON PALM DEVICES WITH OS VERSION LOWER THAN
  49. 3.0. There is no ROM version checking in Timber, so it most probably
  50. will simply crash.

  53. (3) FUTURE PLANS

  55. I plan to make a 0.0 final release of Timber around March 31, 2000. These
  56. are some of my plans:

  58. Definitely missing in V0.0 BETA (too be added to final release):

  60. - Graphity indicator in dialogs
  61. - Automatic focus in "set goal" dialog
  62. - Better input control in all weight fields
  63. - ROM version check

  65. Concerning a possible 1.0 or later version:

  69. - category support to log more than one type of data
  70. - notes to each entry
  71. - small icon for palm builtin launcher (tAIB #1001 does not work, who
  72.   know anything about that?)

  100. (5) KNOWN PROBLEMS
  101.  
  102. After installing Timber, Launcher III does not show the Timber icon, only the 
  103. text. This seems to be a bug in Launcher III.

  105. Solution: Change the view columns to a different value and back again, 
  106. that should work.
