  20. singlehandedly and myself shall bear the blame.

  22. WHAT'S UP WITH THE NAMES OF CHARACTERS?

  24. What can we make of the names?  Mucho:

  92. IS ROBERT JORDAN A PSEUDONYM?

  94. Yes, as mentioned in RASFW, Robert Jordan is a pseudonym for David
  95. Eddings.  When questioned, Mr. Eddings said he wanted to explore
  96. the conflict between good and bad writing without alienating any
  97. readers.
  98.  
  99. WILL THE SERIES EVER END?  WHAT NEXT?
  100.  
  101. Yes, Mr. Jordan already knows how it will end.  In a few more
  102. books, he will finish it up.  Afterward, he will take some time off
  103. to play major league baseball and then write a new series combining
  104. his previous works.  In this series, Rand al'Thor and Belgarion
  105. will discover that they live on the same world, and that each live
  106. on continents conveniently unknown to the other.  They will
  107. discover that the plots of the Wheel of Time and the Belgariad/
  108. Malloreon were each just half of the true story.  The major
  109. characters of each will combine (some will be discarded if there
  110. prove to be too many names to keep track of) and meander around
  111. even more previously unknown continents.  The first book will
  112. probably be called _Demon Lord of Shayol Ghul_.  Eventually Robert
  113. Silverberg will collaborate and the characters will wander around
  114. in previously unknown countries meeting previously unknown alien
  115. races each time they cross a rise in the land.

  117. WHERE IS THE LAST SEAL?
  118.  
  119. In former days, seals were trained by the Sea Folk to balance small
  120. replicas of the Wheel of Time (tm) on their noses.  The seals were
  121. too busy doing this to reproduce, and face extinction.  The last
  122. known seal was captured by the Seanchan and now juggles moons in
  123. the Tower of Ravens.

  125. WHAT ARE THE CHAPTER ICONS?

  127. The little symbols at the top of the first page of each chapter. 
  128. If you click on one, the chapter shrinks to a small square which
  129. hides in the back near the glossary.

  131. WHY MUST THE DARK ONE BE IMPRISONED?

  133. When we read the story of how Lews Therin and the 100 companions
  134. sealed up the bore carefully, we realize that this must be
  135. interpreted literally.  The "Dark One" is actually an incredibly
  136. tiresome conversationalist, i.e., a bore.  Anyone who talks to the
  137. Dark One lapses into a stupor until the only thing loud enough to
  138. awaken them, the Horn of Valere, is sounded.

  140. WHAT IS THE SONG?

  142. The Song goes like this:

  154. force adolescents to act like small, stupid children.

  156. WHAT DOES A DRAGON LOOK LIKE?

  161. WHO WERE THE AIEL?

  163. The Aiel were a group of people dedicated to achieving maximum
  164. economy in the use of letters in common spelling.  Aiel was
  165. selected as their name for providing three syllables in just four
  166. letters.  Over 3000 years, this has been forgotten, and now most
  167. believe that the name comes from the sound made by most travellers
  168. when an Aiel leaps out from behind a rock.

  170. IS VERIN BLACK?

  172. Maybe.  It's hard to tell from the descriptions.  In TSR she is
  173. described as having brown hair.  Most black people have black hair,
  174. but this alone is not conclusive.

  176. WHY ISN'T ELAIDA BLACK?

  178. Well, this is inconclusive also.  She is only described as having
  179. dark eyes, so she might be.

  181. WHAT DID THE OGIER DO OF OLD?

  183. As tall as they are, they probably played a lot of basketball.  The
  184. Ogier women often had successful careers in Beach Volleyball.  Some
  185. teams were the Tsofu Toughguys, the Shangtai Tsunami, and the
  186. Peking Mighty Ducks.

  188. WHAT IS WITH THOSE COVERS BY DARREL SWEET?

  190. Darrel Sweet does the covers for all of the Wheel of Time books. 
  191. With the thousands of copies sold, it is no wonder that the covers
  192. come loose so easily.  His telephone rings or something, he gets
  193. distracted and doesn't apply the glue properly on the copy you
  194. eventually buy, and the cover falls off.

  196. DOES HEINLEIN APPEAR IN THE SERIES?

  198. How did you miss it, I ask you?  Actually, all the characters in
  199. the Wheel of Time, no matter how they are described, actually
  200. reflect the mores and habits of middle-class American writers.

  202. WHY DON'T WE START A NEW NEWSGROUP?

  205. you are reading this FAQE intentionally, you don't care about a new
  206. newsgroup either.  So there.

  208. SPOILERS FOR THE FIRES OF HEAVEN:

  211. Why does Moiraine poke out Mat's eye with Rand's severed hand after
  212. Mat gets her pregnant?  Apparently she was angry about the floods
  213. Rand caused in Cairhien when he diverted the rivers to wipe out the
  214. trollocs.

  216. WHY IS MOIRAINE NOT DEAD?
  217.  
  218. There are two competing theories about this, neither of which has
  219. any credibility or support:
  220.  
  221. 1.   Moiraine will reappear as did Gandalf after killing the
  222.      Balrog.  She will act mysterious and refuse to explain how she
  223.      survived.  Of course, both Gandalf and Moiraine acted
  224.      mysterious and refused to explain anything before their
  225.      sacrifices.  As Gandalf becomes what Saruman should have been,
  226.      Moiraine will become what Lanfear should have been.  Note the
  227.      similarity between Moiraine and Mieren.

  229. 2.   Having sacrificed herself through the stone ter'angreal like
  230.      Aslan on the stone table, giving herself willingly to the
  231.      White Witch in place of Rand, she will find that death has
  232.      worked backwards and she is more powerful than before.

  234. WHAT IS THE TAMYRLIN?

  236. An old folk song recorded by Fairport Convention.  In the story,
  237. the hero is saved from the Faerie Queen by some girl who keeps
  238. showing off her knees, and tries to tell people she got pregnant
  239. from a rosebush.

  241. WHO WILL MARRY MAT?

  243. It seems that this old joke won't work.  I'd like to say, "a
  244. preacher," but we saw in the Shadow rising when Perrin married
  245. Faile that wedding ceremonies don't have anyone who officiates.

  247. WHO WILL LAN BE BONDED TO NOW?

  249. We've all agreed unanimously that Lan is bonded to Nynaeve.  Or
  250. Myrelle.  Or to Moiraine.  Or to somebody whose name begins with a
  251. nasal sound.

  253. WHAT IS WITH ALL THIS SNIFFING BUSINESS?

  255. Even after 3000 years, the dust kicked up by the breaking of the
  256. world is still aggravating everyone's sinuses.  This sort of thing
  257. occurs even today, where the Breaking of Southern California has
  258. kicked up dust causing an increase in infant botulism.

  260. IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN MAT AND THE STOLEN DICE TER'ANGREAL?

  262. No.  Although Mat feels no moral qualms about wagering in games of
  263. chance that he never loses, he never actually steals anything these
  264. days.

  266. WHAT DOES EACH AJAH DO?
  267.  
  268. Brown     The brown Ajah seeks to corner the market for Trivial
  269.           Pursuit games in the Fourth age.
  270.  
  271. White     Engages in philosophical arguments about how best to
  272.           meddle in human politics.
  273.  
  274. Black     Meddles with human affairs, jockeying for position at the
  275.           Dark One's coming out party.
  276.  
  277. Red       Meddle's in men's affairs, seeking revenge for permanent
  278.           PMS.
  279.  
  280. Green     Meddles in human affairs (literally).  Also known as the
  281.           free love Ajah.
  282.  
  283. Blue      Meddles on behalf of the light.

  285. Yellow    Specializes in what we would call medicine.  Doesn't
  286.           meddle much as long as they get Wednesdays off.

  288. Gray      Arbitrates between the various other meddling factions.

  310. to go back to Harriet again.  Inquiring minds want to know, to whom
  311. will LoC be dedicated?

  313. WHO ARE THE AELFS AND EELFS?

  315. Annoying beings from another dimension.  When encountered, they
  316. will answer questions or grant wishes, but as the price, they will
  317. harass you until you trick them into saying their names backwards.

  319. WHO KILLED ASMODEAN?
  320.  
  321. What evidence do we have that Asmodean is dead?  All it says is
  322. that Death took him.  It doesn't say Death killed him!  With all
  323. the personifications of good and evil running around in this
  324. series, maybe Death is just someone who took him out to dinner at
  325. one of the many fine inns in Caemlyn.

  327. WHAT'S WITH SALDAEA?

  329. Just because questions are asked doesn't mean they are all
  330. answered.

  340. WHAT'S WITH MAT DYING AND LIVING AGAIN, ETC.

  342. Mat's a somewhat annoying and not very effective character.  The
  343. author keeps trying to get rid of him, but he's popular with the
  344. fans.  Every scene where he's killed off, a group of fans will show
  345. up, wearing red head bands, carrying jewelled daggers, and waving
  346. oversize dice cups.  Mr. Jordan has no choice but to put him back
  347. into action.
