  1. A customer calls a UNIX consultant with a question:

  3. Customer: What is the command that will tell me the revision code of a
  4. program?

  6. UNIX consul: Yes, that's correct.

  8. Customer: No, what is it ?

  10. UNIX consul: Yes.

  12. Customer: So, which is the one ?

  14. UNIX consul: No. 'which' is used to find the program.

  16. Customer: Stop this. Who are you ?

  18. UNIX consul: Use 'who am i' not 'who r yoo'. You can also 'finger yoo'
  19. to get information about yoo'.

  21. Customer: All I want to know is what finds the revision code ?

  23. UNIX consul: Use 'what'.

  25. Customer: That's what I am trying to find out. Isn't that true ?

  27. UNIX consul: No. 'true' gives you 0.

  29. Customer: Which one ?

  31. UNIX consul: 'true' gives you 0. 'which programname'

  33. Customer: Let's get back to my problem. What program? How do I find it?

  35. UNIX consul: Type 'find / -name it -print' to find 'it'. Type 'what
  36. program' to get the revision code.

  38. Customer: I want to find the revision code.

  40. UNIX consul: You can't 'find revisioncode', you must use 'what program'.

  42. Customer: Which command will do what I need?

  44. UNIX consul: No. 'which command' will find 'command'.

  46. Customer: I think I understand. Let me write that.

  48. UNIX consul: You can 'write that' only if 'that' is a user on your
  49. system.

  53. UNIX consul: No. 'write that'. 'what program'.

  57. UNIX consul: Yes. those are valid files for 'cut'. Don't forget the
  58. options.

  60. Customer: Do you always do this ?

  62. UNIX consul: 'du' will give you disk usage.

  64. Customer: HELP!

  66. UNIX consul: 'help' is only used for Source Code Control System (SCCS).

  68. Customer: You make me angry.

  70. UNIX consul: No, I don't 'make me' angry but I did 'make programname'
  71. when I was upset once.

  73. Customer: I don't want to make trouble, so no more.

  75. UNIX consul: No 'more'? 'which' will help you find 'more'. Every system
  76. has 'more'.

  78. Customer: Nice help! I'm confused more now!

  80. UNIX consul: Understand that since 'help' is such a small program, it is
  81. better not to 'nice help'. and 'more now' is not allowed but 'at now'
  82. is.  Unless of course 'now' is a file name.

  84. Customer: This is almost as confusing as my PC.

  86. UNIX consul: I didn't know you needed help with 'pc'. Let me get you to
  87. the Pascal compiler team.
