  7. This is to announce the time and place of the first PCC Linux
  8. SIG.

  10. After receiving your feedback, it seems the consensus is to hold
  11. the meeting in Hayward, so the meeting will be:

  13. Saturday, January 30th

  21. Discussion this Saturday will be wide ranging - what's Linux,
  22. what's Xwindow, what applications can you get/run on Linux, and
  23. how does this all fit in with that other Windows program put out
  24. by Micro-somebody-or-other.
  25.  
  26. On the practical side, you will see and do a real live
  27. installation of Linux.  I will bring the Red Hat and Caldera
  28. distribution CD-ROMs, and we will do an installation on a real
  29. live computer.  It may survive.
  30.  
  31. If you already have a Linux CD, and have been a bit mystified
  32. about where to start, bring the CD to the meeting with a couple
  33. of floppy disks.  You'll go home with a set of installation
  34. floppy to get started with.
  35.  
  36. If you don't yet have a Linux CD-ROM, you can expect to learn
  37. which distribution is most suitable for your needs.  There are
  38. about a half a dozen major distributions out there, and they are
  39. all quite different.

  41. If you definitely know or if you aren't sure if you want to
  42. get involved with Linux, come to the January 30th Linux SIG
  43. and find out.
