Hello Future Linux Fans,
This is to announce the time and place of the first PCC Linux
SIG.
After receiving your feedback, it seems the consensus is to hold
the meeting in Hayward, so the meeting will be:
Saturday, January 30th
--> 2:00 PM <--
Tom and Elsie Smith's
26799 Contessa St.
Hayward (off 880 & 92)
For a map, see the attachment, or roll your own at www.mapquest.com.
Discussion this Saturday will be wide ranging - what's Linux,
what's Xwindow, what applications can you get/run on Linux, and
how does this all fit in with that other Windows program put out
by Micro-somebody-or-other.
On the practical side, you will see and do a real live
installation of Linux. I will bring the Red Hat and Caldera
distribution CD-ROMs, and we will do an installation on a real
live computer. It may survive.
If you already have a Linux CD, and have been a bit mystified
about where to start, bring the CD to the meeting with a couple
of floppy disks. You'll go home with a set of installation
floppy to get started with.
If you don't yet have a Linux CD-ROM, you can expect to learn
which distribution is most suitable for your needs. There are
about a half a dozen major distributions out there, and they are
all quite different.
If you definitely know or if you aren't sure if you want to
get involved with Linux, come to the January 30th Linux SIG
and find out.
