Everyone, welcome to the SMAUG (Santa Cruz Microsoft Alternative User
Group) discussion list! Everyone is free to post to it flames, ideas,
and whatever you feel like posting that will help out your local Linux
community. Post to smaug@lists.netline.com.
We are working with Alvin Oga of linux-consulting.com to get our own
Linux server up and running on our own domain. The first meeting /
installfest for our group is slated for Monday, November 6, 2000, 6:30
PM. Also, some people from VA Linux will be at our first meeting to
talk to us, and they are also providing us with a server for our use
(doing installations and such). My guy at VA Linux is talking to
Caldera/SCO to see if we can get use of their facilities off of Encinal
near Costco, for our meetings.
We will have free giveaways, food, and door prizes. So come and join
us, the first Monday of every month.
Also, I am looking for other officers for our club, such as VP and
Secretary.
Please e-mail the list if you have any questions or concerns, or e-mail
me privately.

group and we have our meetings the first Monday of every month. We have
free giveaways, door prizes, food, drink, and installations -
everybody's favorite pastime. At our next meeting, on Monday, November
6, 2000, 6:30 PM, we have some people from VA Linux coming to talk to
us. We also would like to thank VA Linux for letting us use one of
their servers to run installs off of. We also would like to thank
Linux-1U.net, SuSE, VMWare, Bay Networks, Linux-Consulting.com, NetLine,
and Caldera for donating their time, effort and product to us to kick
off our group with a bang! (No pun intended.)
Please join our mailing list for more info on our group:

Hey, Rick,
Could you add this to BALE for me, please? Thanks.
So I was confirmed by SCO today, that I am going to be using their
facility in Santa Cruz for the meetings.
Here are the meeting specifics:
The meeting will take place at 399 Encinal Street, Santa Cruz.
On Monday, November 6, 2000, at 6:30 PM, there will be someone, or a
sign on the front door of the building to greet attendees. The meeting
will be the first Monday of every month, at SCO, at 6:30.
At this meeting, VA Linux will be coming and speaking to us. We are a
group for all ages of Linux users, and people who want to become Linux
Users. We will have tons on Linux distros to hand out for the newbies,
and lots of giveaways. SMAUG stands for Santa cruz Microsoft
Alternative User Group.
Do you have anything else that you need so that you could add it to
BALE?

Forgot to tell you: Our Web site for SMAUG is
http://www.orangeonyx.com/linux/ . We will be switching to our new
domain, http://www.scruz.org/ , soon. I'll let you know, when we do.
Thank you!
Jacob
BALE maintainer's notes:
(1) To get to the SMAUG meeting site from downtown Santa Cruz, head
towards the freeways out of town. On CA-1 just before it crosses the
San Lorenzo River and becomes a freeway, turn left (north) onto River
Road / CA-9, proceeding three blocks to turn left (west) on Encinal
Street. Proceed two blocks, crossing the railroad tracks, to just past
Sylvania Avenue. SMAUG meets in the corporate headquarters of SCO,
Inc., at 399 Encinal.
(2) The Santa Cruz Metro route 4 bus stops nearby, at Harvey West.
See http://www.scmtd.com/ for details.
(3) On 2000-10-17, SMAUG's meeting site at SCO was changed from 425
Encinal Ave. to 399 Encinal Ave. I've retroactively edited Jacob's
announcement e-mails (above), to reflect that.
