KALAH is a game of logic where one player battles witts with the computer. The
game is originally of African origin, and sometimes goes by the name of
MANKALAH. The rules of this computer representation of the game are the same
as the original game. Basically, each player has six bins with pegs to move
around the board. Depending on which bin selected, a player can increase his
score, capture his opponents pegs, or get a free move. More details on the
rules are available when the game is started.
KALAH is written totally in PASCAL and is as machine independant as possible.
The original code ran on a DECSYSTEM-20 and very slight modifications had to be
made to run with TURBO PASCAL. In order to run this game, you must have a
VT100 compatible terminal. The DEC Rainbow is ideal since the VT100 emulation
is built into the system firmware.
KALAH is being put into the public domain for non-commercial use - it is not
to be sold for any purpose except by the owner. No warranty is included or
implied. Any bugs or suggestions are appreciated - please contact the author.
The DEC Rainbow-100 version of the game and its source code are available for
a small fee of $10.00. To obtain a copy, send a SELF-ADDRESSED, PRE-PAID mailer
and a PRE FORMATTED DEC RAINBOW floppy diskette to:
BRIAN SIETZ
506 Birch Dr.
Cherry Hill, NJ. 08003
The executable game alone can be downloaded from FIDO#82 [609] 429-6630 .
Hours are 12:00 Midnight - 5:30 PM. If you download it, you may find that
it may run on other computers besides the DEC-Rainbow. I just havn't tried
it. Currently, only the MSDOS version is available now however the CPM-86
and CPM-80 versions will be around soon.
