  4. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:
  5. --------------------------

  7. TOP is intended for the IBM PC, PC/XT, PC/AT, or 100% compatibles.
  8. DOS 3.0 or greater is required. A Microsoft compatible mouse is
  9. recommended but not required.
  10.  
  11. TOP installation requires about 980 Kbytes of free disk space on the
  12. destination drive. Installation to a low density floppy is not
  13. possible.
  14.  
  15. DOCUMENTATION
  16. -------------

  18. Complete documentation will be created by the installation
  19. procedure, in a file called "MANUAL.TXT".
  20.  
  21. TO INSTALL:
  22. -----------
  23.  
  24. To install TOP, insert the TOP release disk into your floppy drive
  25. and type:
  26.  
  27.            A:INSTALL <ENTER>
  28.  
  29. Notes:     If your floppy is not drive A:, substitute the appropriate
  30.            letter above
  31.  
  32.            The default installation directory will be C:\TOP. You
  33.            will be given the option of specifying a different
  34.            directory during installation
  35.  
  36.  
  37. During the installation you will be asked for your TOP registration
  38. number. If this is a shareware installation and you do not have
  39. number, just press <ENTER> at the prompt.
  40.  
  41. INSTALL does NOT modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, it just
  42. copies files to a directory and decompresses them. However, some
  43. slight modifications to AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS may be
  44. recommended - see POST-INSTALL NOTES below.
  45.  
  46. Up to date release information is available after starting TOP and
  47. typing:
  48.  
  49.            !READ_ME <F1> -- The latest release information
  50.  
  51. and
  52.  
  53.            !-NEW-! <F1>  -- New features in this release
  54.  
  55. HELP is available by pressing <F1>, or by pressing your left and
  56. right mouse buttons simultaneously and releasing them over the word
  57. HELP. A left click on any word in the HELP window accesses HELP for
  58. that topic.

  60. POST-INSTALL NOTES:
  61. -------------------
  62.  
  63. It is recommended the TOP startup command be added as the last line
  64. of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. To do this you would add the line:
  65.  
  66.            c:\top\top
  67.  
  68. as the last line of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file (if you installed TOP to
  69. the default C:\TOP). If you have DOS 5.0+ and a 386 or 486 hardware,
  70. TOP can be loaded into upper memory with LOADHIGH. For example:
  71.  
  72.            loadhigh c:\top\top
  73.  
  74. can be added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT in place of the above example.
  75.  
  76. Important: If you do not have a FILES= statement in your CONFIG.SYS
  77. file, or do not have a CONFIG.SYS file, you must create one and set
  78. the FILES equal to or greater than 9 (the default if not specified
  79. is 8). To create a CONFIG.SYS file from scratch (if you don't have
  80. one) type:

  82.            cd\<ENTER>
  83.            copy con config.sys<ENTER>
  84.            files=20<CTRL+Z><ENTER>
  85.  
  86. Remember to reboot after any AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS changes so
  87. the changes will take effect.

  89. CHANGING TOP PARAMETERS

  92. After installing TOP, change to the TOP directory and type:
