VAT CHECKER 2.00
(C) Richard Smedley 1994 - All Rights Reserved
Have you ever received an invoice from your electrician, only to find that
a hefty 17.5% has been added to it in "VAT"? Or are you worried that a
plumbers bill scrawled in pencil on the back of a cigarette packet might
not be genuine?
If so, then this program is for you...
By law, all companies in the UK are legally required to supply their VAT
registration number on all official paperwork, including bills, receipts
and invoices.
This program lets you enter these VAT registration numbers, and will
instantly tell you whether or not they are valid.
Although this alone isn't enough to confirm that you're doing business with
a bona-fide company, it actually goes quite a long way in checking their
credentials, and more importantly than this it guarantees that you're not
going to find yourself paying 17.5% over the odds.
USING THE PROGRAM FROM WORKBENCH
================================
Double-click on the "VAT_Checker" icon to load the program.
When the window appears on your Workbench screen, simply click in the box
and enter a VAT registration number, and the program will instantly tell
you whether or not that number is valid. To enter another number simply
re-click in the box.
When you've finished, press the close-gadget to quit the program.
USING THE PROGRAM FROM CLI
==========================
Use the following format at the Shell/CLI prompt:
VAT_Checker (number1) (number2) (number3) (and so on...)
Obviously, you don't need to put brackets around each number!
You can put as many VAT registration numbers as you want on the command
line, and a message will appear for each one telling you whether or not
it's valid.
If you don't specify any VAT numbers then the Workbench window will appear
instead.
OTHER NOTES
===========
In case you're wondering, this program works by checking the VAT
registration numbers against a version of the actual formula which the
Inland Revenue uses for creating them. Obviously, this means that if you
live outside the UK then the program will be completely useless to you...
Although the program has been very extensively tested, and has never yet
returned an incorrect result, it is still supplied strictly on an "AS IS"
basis with no guarantees either expressed or implied.
Finally, this program was written using compiled GFABasic V3.51.
DISTRIBUTION
============
This program may be freely distributed by any means, in its entire form
only, providing the following files remain intact and unmodified:
VAT_Checker
VAT_Checker.info
VAT_Checker.Doc
VAT_Checker.Doc.info
THE TRADITIONAL JOKES
=====================
Just time for a couple more of my favourite jokes...
1) What's green, has six legs, and would kill you if it fell out
of a tree?
A snooker table!
2) How did the skeleton know it was going to rain?
He could feel it in his bones!
Ha ha ha ha ha! Ahem...
