We have received some info about 3 new, VERY interesting products from
SunRize - The AD1016 16-bit sampling card, AD1012 which the 12-bit
equivalent, and finally the software package AUDITION, which will absolutely
knock the socks off Audiomaster III and any other sound sampling software for
the Amiga.
The new 16- and 12-bit sampling cards from SunRize seems to open up to a
whole new dimension in sound sampling. With the AD1016, things are finally
getting professional, you can sample sounds with CD quality - and in stereo.
The information below is exactly as received from SunRize, so it is probably
biased. Look out for a real review of these products, maybe in the next
issue of AM/FM.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
16-BIT SOUND SAMPLER FOR THE AMIGA - AD1016 WITH STUDIO 16
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The AD1016, bundled with SunRize's Studio 16 editing software, turns your
Amiga into a complete digital audio workstation. The AD1016's built in SMPTE
tine code reader allows easy synchronization of digital audio to video tape.
The AD1016 can record, edit and playback direct to hard disk allowing almost
unlimited sample length. In addition, AD1016 allows direct signal connection
to CD players and DATs (digital audio tapes). Studio 16, the supplied
editing software, supports cut, copy and paste as well as more advanced
features like multi-band graphic EQ. The AD1016 and Studio 16 bundle can be
used to produce a CD quality master.
The AD1016 digital audio card plugs into an Amiga 2000 or 3000. The card
will record and playback two channels of audio with 16 bits of resolution at
sampling rates up to 48.000 samples pr. second. Four 8-times oversampling
digital anti-aliasing filters are provided. Also included on the AD1016 is a
Motorola DSP56001 digital signal processor. This 'sound accelerator' chip is
rated at 12.5 MIPS, and allow the AD1016 to perform digital effects in real
time. This includes graphic EQ, digital filters, echo, reverb, and noise
filtering to name but a few. The AD1016 also includes digital in and out
ports. The digital ports may be configured in either the professional
AES/EBU standard or the consumer standard. Digital ports allow direct data
transfer with CD players and DATs. The AD1016 includes a SMPTE time code
reader capable of reading standard SMPTE longitudinal time code at 24, 25 and
30 frames pr. second. Finally the AD1016 includes MIDI in and out ports.
The AD1016 supports both balanced and unbalanced audio signals.
The AD1016 is bundled with the Studio 16 modular software system. Studio 16
allows you to cut, copy, paste and mix digital sounds. All editing is
performed on hard disk, allowing very long sounds. Studio 16 also includes
an ARexx port allowing it to interface with other Amiga software. Studio 16
is modular, designed for future expansion. Work is in the progress on a
multitrack SMPTE cue list module and an advanced effects module. A cue list
allows you to trigger sounds at certain time codes. The sounds will then
track the tape, compensating for variations in tape speed. Although the base
Studio 16 package support graphic EQ and echo, the effects module will add
more effects. Among these are reverbs, flanges, choruses and filters.
SunRize will be working with other developers, such as Dr.T's and Blue Ribbon
Sound Works to provide direct support for the AD1016 in their software. For
example, Bars & Pipes users will be able to trigger the AD1016 as a MIDI
channel. This will allow you to sequence vocals or guitar along with your
normal MIDI instruments.

12-BIT SOUND SAMPLER FOR THE AMIGA - AD1012 WITH Studio 16
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The AD1012, bundled with SunRize's Studio 16 editing software, allows Amiga
owners to record hours of audio direct to hard disk. The AD1012's built in
SMPTE tine code reader allows easy synchronization of digital audio to video
tape. The AD1012 can record, edit and playback direct to hard disk allowing
almost unlimited sample length. The supplied Studio 16 editing software,
supports cut, copy and paste as well as more advanced features like
multi-band graphic EQ. The AD1012 and Studio 16 bundle provide a perfect,
low-cost audio for video post production system.
The AD1012 digital audio card plugs into an Amiga 2000 or 3000. The card
will record and playback one channel of audio with 12 bits of resolution at
sampling rates up to 100.000 samples pr. second. Two eight-order linear
phase anti-aliasing filters are provided, one for the audio input and one for
the audio output. Each filter may have its cutoff frequence set by the user
from 2.6kHz to 33.3kHz. Also included on the AD1012 is an Analog Devices
ADSP 2105 digital signal processor. This 'sound accelerator' chip is rated
at 10 MIPS, and allow the AD1012 to perform digital effects in real time.
This includes graphic EQ, digital filters, echo, reverb, and noise filtering
to name but a few. Finally, the AD1012 includes a SMPTE time code reader
capable of reading standard SMPTE longitudinal time code at 24, 25 and 30
frames pr. second.
The AD1012 is bundled with the Studio 16 modular software system. Studio 16
allows you to cut, copy, paste and mix digital sounds. All editing is

example, Bars & Pipes users will be able to trigger the AD1012 as a MIDI
channel. This will allow you to sequence vocals or guitar along with your
normal MIDI instruments.
Although the AD1012 is a mono card, owners can purchase a second card at
substantial discount. With two cards, the Studio 16 software supports
stereo. In addition, AD1012 owners can upgrade to the more advanced AD1016
16 bit stereo card if needed. A discount of the full AD1012 list price is
provided when you trade in your AD1012 for the AD1016.

AUDITION 4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Audition 4 is the next generation digital sound system that allows you to
record and edit any sound in ways previously impossible. Written in 100%
assembly language, Audition 4 was designed from the ground up to be easy to
use, fast, flexible and powerful. You can preview different echoes, filters,
mixes and fades without altering your original sample. Incredible effects
are now ridiculously easy to create!
Audition is fast and powerful. Hit the zoom button and fly into samples for
precision editing. Use your mouse to draw on a sound's graph. Set up to 99
different loop points in one sample. Edit stereo or mono samples. And when
you're done, save in industry standard IFF format for use with KCS,
AmigaVision, CanDo, Sonix, DeLuxe Music, DeLuxeVideo, Tiger Cub, Bars & Pipes
and many other software packages.
Audition 4 is similar to AudioMaster III in that they are both sound editing
software programs for the Amiga. However, Audition 4 surpasses AMIII in
several key areas. For those AudioMaster III owners who would like to
upgrade their system to Audition 4, an upgrade offer is available. Please
note the chart below for a side by side comaprsion.

One of Audition 4's most powerful capabilities is that it allows you to
preview effects. For example, when creating an echo you can click the 'Try
Echo' gadget. You instantly hear an echoed version of the selected sound.
And while you are listening to the echo, you can slide the parameter gadgets
for instant feedback on how different parameters affect your sound. When you
find the echo you want, just turn off the preview mode to perform the final
echo.
