  12. 'Tis a desperate hope, and a serious jest;
  13. 'Tis catching a dolt, when his wit is suspended;
  14. 'Tis a toil, where the labour can never be ended;
  15. 'Tis a leap in the dark, which both parties agree
  16. 'To perform hand in hand, though they neither can se;
  17. 'Tis walking through mines filled with sulphurous vapour;
  18. Where to find out a path, you must brandish a taper;
  19. 'Tis like Tantalus' feast, where the good does but seem;
  20. And both ope their eyes, though they're both in a dream;
  21. 'Tis going to sea, in a black stormy night,
  22. Which reason calls madness, but custom delight;
  23. For Wedlock's a minx who deceives by her sleekness,
  24. As Craft wove a cloak to envelop her weaknes.
  25. 'Tis a comical, tragical, fiery ordeeal,
  26. Where the ploughshares are hot, and your faith is not real.
