GrphPaper creates graphpaper. It can produce rectangular combinations of linear and log paper, and also linear and log polar paper.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Iconbar
GrphPaper installs to the iconbar, where clicking with SELECT on the icon opens a window enabling the type of graph and other choices to be made. Clicking with ADJUST on the iconbar icon will open the display window if a file has already been created.
Choices Window
Clicking on the Create button will create the Draw file in Wimp$ScrapDir, and also display the resulting file in the display window. If you click using SELECT the choices window will close, if you use ADJUST the choices window will stay open.
Display Window
Clicking the MENU button in the display window will present a File Save dialogue box from where the resultant Draw file can be saved. Clicking with SELECT in the display window will close the display window. Clicking with ADJUST will open the choices window.
WHAT USE IS IT?
It creates those odd bits of graphpaper that everyone (well, nearly everyone) needs from time to time. Saves having to rush down to the stationers or newsagents for a sheet of log/linear paper, only to find that it's not in stock... And you can chose your own colours (if you have a colour printer 8-).
WILL THIS MARVELLOUS PRODUCT BE DEVELOPED FURTHER?
Not unless someone lets me (markwart@pcug.org.au) know of any further requirements required, or discovers some bugs for me to fix.
It is possible, but not very, that the program could also produce finished graphs, but that would take all the joy out of drawing graphs with hundreds of points in by hand. 8-)
WHAT OTHER THINGS MIGHT APPEAR IF THERE WAS A DEMAND FOR IT?
Line thicknesses.
Ability to position the top left hand corner of the graph.
Ability to save the configuration.
Ability to save the Draw file directly into Draw and other applications.
Printing.
Multilingual support.
Help support.
Teamaking facilities (actually, I'd like all my programs to have this built in 8-)
WHAT BUGS ARE THERE?
Actually I don't know of any, they are all 'features' 8-) Let me (markwart@pcug.org.au) know if you discover any.
Some 'features' are:
- the lines are not grouped. This means that if you want to position the graphpaper on a page, ensure that 'select all' and 'group' are chosen before the lines are moved.
- the file name is based on the number of divisions of the x and y axes. If you leave these numbers the same but change the graph to be polar, or use log instead of linear subdivisions, the file name will remain the same.
- at the moment the major lines are created first, and therefore under the minor divisional lines. This can be altered once the graph paper is loaded into Draw. If anyone requests it, I can change this easily.
- the maximum number of minor divisions is currently restricted to 10 (starts to get a bit crowded). There may be valid reasons for wanting 12, 16 or even more. If you do, let me know 8-)
HOW DO YOU..?
Q What are sensible values to create graphpaper?
A For portrait A4 page:
- rectangular graph paper:
for the x-axis 19 or 20 major divisions if set to centimetre (cm), or 8 if set to inch;
for the y-axis 27 or 28 major divisions if set to centimetre (cm), or 11 if set to inch. Vice versa for landscape.
- polar graph paper:
for radial 36 major divisions; or six; or 12
for orbital 9 or 10 if set to centimetre (cm), or 4 if set to inch.
Q Why do all the graphs appear the same size in the preview window?
A Because the Draw file is scaled to the window. I thought that doing that was quite clever actually.
Q How do you create inverse log paper?
A Turn the paper the other way around
Q What use is graph paper with white lines?
A Superimpose it on a picture. Could be used as a grid (rectangular) or a rifle sight (polar), or just for the fun of it.
WHY ON EARTH WAS IT WRITTEN?
To appear on a cover disc of Acorn User, and to play around with using drawfiles with WimpWorks (JaffaSoft).
WHERE CAN I SEND MONEY, EXPENSIVE GIFTS ETC AS A REWARD FOR THIS PROGRAM?
