††††The first commercially successful electric typewriter was developed by International Business machines (IBM) in the United States in 1938.
Electronic typewriters began to appear in the middle of the 20th century. They contain silicon chips which allow them to automatically correct words, underline, set margins, move blocks of text, and so on.
They can also store large chunks of text in their memory and type them out at the touch of a key.
Now, however, the electronic typewriter is gradually being replaced by word processors, the first of which was produced by IBM in 1964.
